The immortal Strain pt 1
The dark clouds hung around the sky like a pack of wolves, covering the sun like a blanket. Soft wind breezes past the fallen leaves which danced as the gentle gales lifted them up and dropped them. Two playful crows danced gracefully as if they were doing a elegant ballet.
As I walked down the street, hot coffee warming my hands from the bitter cold which chose to bite my nose like a small ferret. I continued to stroll, music blared softly against my ear drums, soothing me from my thoughts.
I slowly passed the many shops which seemed to be bustling with life. The sound of people chatting and talking about a their daily lives, I continued to walk slowly reaching my destination.
As I approached, I was greeted by the familiar wooden door which welcomed me. I opened it softly before entering. The smell of sterile smoke seemed to be the norm. I put on my lab coat and lanyard where I then walked down the hall. Reaching the familiar office of my boss.
“Ah, Fletcher, there you are my boy!” A kind raspy voice seemed to call out. Peeking up from a book was the old professor. “Good morning, Dr. Caldwell.” I smiled back. The old man stood up and grasped my hand, shaking it.
“So what’s the new project for today?” I asked curiously. Which seemed to spark Caldwell’s interest. “Ah, we have a specimen which we have captured, the creature will need to be studied first, would you like to see it?”
I nod, eager to see this creature, that he had seemed to be so invested in. Caldwell stands up and brings me out of his office, the familiar halls seemed to twist and wind as we wandered. I wondered what the creature would look like, how it would react. I could feel my heart beating against my chest like a bass drum.
Until we reached the chamber. Bolted and locked, I could feel the walls closing in around me like a giant whose hands were now clasping around me.
As the old professor put in the code, I could see the concentration on his wrinkled face. As he hummed to himself. A loud click and whirring sound seemed to startle me from my thoughts as the professor stepped back. The door slowly opened where we walked in.
A chill ran up my spine as I crept throigh the room, following the doctor. It felt tense in there. The doctor seemed to hum, his slow pace never stopped, we reached a light switch which flung up as Caldwell flicked it.
And then we saw it, attached to wires and tubes, its elegant hands and feet shackled by the silver chains, its head lowered.
Here’s a little plague doctor drawing as well
