Conspiracy

Since Shakespeare happened about six centuries ago, there are people wondering, “Did Shakespeare even exist at all?” It seems strange and unrealistic to think that a man with no proper education nor any fanciful background could have ever written such magnificent works.

Many theorise about different men, those who lived in the same time period as this ‘Shakespeare’ could have written the plays. A popular option was one Edward de Vere, the Earl of Oxford, who could have payed Shakespeare to take credit for his plays in order to not be disgraced, as playwriting might not have been the most high-end career for an Earl. In fact, people wonder whether it was all on one person at all.

Even though we may never know, people can’t help wonder.

A shakespeare company in my city literally did this, and let me tell you it was FANTASTIC. Everyone walked into the theatre to find this random dude lying on the stage texting, and we all thought he was part of the audience or set up or something, but THEN THE LIGHTS WENT DOWN AND HE STARTED CONTROLLING THE THEATRE MUSIC WITH HIS PHONE, and pretty much the entire play was him texting and taking selfies with gender-neutral Horatio and avoiding hippy Ophelia. It was amazing.

Shakespeare As Himself?

As well as productions based off Shakespeare's works, he has appeared as his himself in various productions.

Historical fictions like Shakespeare In Love takes Shakespeare as a character and turns him into the protagonist for an original movie.

Slightly more realistic productions, such as The Shakespeare Code in Doctor Who brings Shakespeare to life with almost factual reproductions of Elizabethan life, dropping a few facts about Shakespeare here and there.

Sonnets

Even though 'Shakespearean Sonnets' weren't originally created by Shakespeare, they are given this name as he was the one who made them popular. Written in iambic pentameter, the usual rhyme scheme was a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g.

Shakespeare published only a collection of 154 sonnets, in a 1609 quarto entitled Shake-Speare's Sonnets.
