Fanfiction is its own form of art and to make and publish art should be celebrated regardless of quality.

Nevertheless I am running into issues with smaller fandoms I am a part of not having the exact kind of fanfiction I am looking for and I fear I may just have to swallow my pride and make my expectations more malleable.

We can whine and moan and debate about the potential dangers of people reading copious amounts of unrealistic + excessive fanfiction/smut/romantasy doo doo all we want but can we at least all agree that it is LEAGUES better for one's mental health than spending hours a day doom scrolling addictive short-form video content on sites like TikTok and Instagram. At the end of the day I do think certain forms of escapism are potentially more harmful than others. Like damn at least you're reading. At least you're engaging with SOMETHING. Nothing destroys my mental health like spending hours, even 20 minutes on short form video content. It actually ruins my mindset for the entire day. And somehow THATS the socially acceptable form of escapism, but people who read/write fanfiction are the chronically online ones wrecking their brains. Okay guys.
