Glitter Pikachu Poncho Pins made by GoldenCatStudio
One time I was cooking with a girl and we were both bilingual but we didnât have a language in common so we were just sitting by the fire doing prep work quietly and I was peeling little garlic cloves to mince and she put her hand on my arm to stop me and demonstrated how youâre supposed to press on the clove with the flat side of your knife to break the shell off all at once to peel it and I was like oh! And I imitated her and she nodded in approval and we went back to quietly peeling and mincing the garlic and I donât want to be hyperbolic but in that moment I was like wow I truly understand the universal thread of human love and connection inherent in our souls or whatever
Fish Pie - Kikiâs Delivery Service
Howdy y'all! The mysterious roommate here, and Iâm going to tell you all about dis fish pie hurr! Remember in Kikiâs Delivery Service when Kiki helped the lovely ladies made this fancy fish pie for their granddaughterâs birthday? Well, this was just like that time⌠but different. My mom was in town, and the purveyor of this blog and I decided to make some yummy dinner for us all. And the best part of all was that she didnât turn up her nose and say, âOh⌠another one of those crummy fish pies again,â in fact, she loved it! I even got to make the fish on top! That was the best part about it.
Ingredients
4 fillets of herring, or 3 fillets of another larger, white fish (we used rockfish, you could use sole, tilapia, or cod)
1 leek
1 medium while onion
1 carrot
5 medium potatoes (bakers or russets)
2 cups spinach
3 eggs
2 tablespoons deli style or whole ground mustard
2 bay leaves
3 cups milk
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons pepper
Directions
Cut up the potatoes and put them in a pot of boiling water. Boil for about 5 minutes, then add in two eggs and boil for 5 more minutes. Take out the eggs, and strain the potatoes. Then mash the potatoes in a bowl with 2/3 cup of milk.
Add the mashed potatoes to the bottom of your casserole dish, saving about 1 potato worth of mash in the bowl.
Slice all of the vegetables and the hardboiled eggs and saute them in a pan with some oil or butter and the bay leaves.
Add in the rest of the milk, the mashed potato that you saved, mustard, salt and pepper. Cook everything on medium heat stirring occasionally, until the milk reaches a thick consistency, then add it into the casserole pan. Remember to remove the bay leaves.
Cut the fish fillets into 3 inch wide chunks, and then add it into the casserole pan.
Unroll the pie crust and put it on top. You can cut it into strips, and cut out a fish if you want to make it like the one in Kikiâs Delivery Service. Once you finish covering the casserole pan with the pie crust, beat an egg and brush it on top of the pie crust.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20-30 minutes, or until the crust is to your liking.

SO MUCH THIS!!
When helping kids learn from their mistakes and correcting past behavior, itâs important for parents and other role models to separate what they DID, and who they ARE.
Look at the exchange in the images above. The kid apologizes for âbeing bad,â and the adult points out that it isnât a question of âbeing.â Itâs about specific behavior.
âDefinitely was acting brand new. But you ainât got a bad bone in your body.â
For a personal example, Iâve been working with one of my kids about bullying other kids. And when she behaves that way, I will tell her, âWhat youâre doing is bullying,â or âStop bullying them.â
What I WONâT say is âYouâre being a bully.â
Because kids listen (even when we feel like they arenât) and they are constantly taking in information that they use to define themselves. And the worst thing I could do in this situation is say, âYouâre being a bully,â and they believe me.
It happens so often, itâs tragic. We tell kids, âYouâre a bully,â âYouâre dumb,â âYouâre being obnoxious,â and they internalize that. And as soon as a kid accepts âI am a bullyâ as part of their identity, they will act accordingly.
On the flip side, I used to think it was OK to label kids with âbeingâ statements as long as they were positive, but Iâve learned even that has hidden dangers.
For example, imagine one of my kids finishes a puzzle really quickly, and I respond by saying, âYouâre so smart!â Seems great, right?
But what happens when they move on to a harder puzzle and they donât finish as quickly? So they start thinking things like, âDad said Iâm smart because I can do puzzles fast. But I didnât do this one fast so I guess Iâm not smart after all.â Or, âDad says Iâm smart because I can do puzzles fast, but I didnât do this one fast so it must be a stupid puzzle thatâs made wrong.â
I guess my point is, use âyou areâ statements sparingly and carefully with kids. Tell them things like, âYou are important,â âYou are valuable,â âYou are loved.â But when it comes to behavior, make it clear that what they do does not define who they are. Let them define themselves.
Stuff like that still has me messed up.

Dav Pilkey said in one video that he based his villain-turned-good-Papa character, Petey, on himself as a child. He said because of his ADHD and dyslexia, he was constantly getting in trouble, and he started to think that maybe he was a bad person. But his parents loved and supported him, and made sure he knew that wasnât true.

Bast more than the Queen of Cats
Bast is one of the oldest Gods and isnât often given the credit she deserves. Commonly loved but rarely truly respected. She is usually worshipped as the Queen of Cats but that is merely a small part of who and what she is. She is Protector of Ra and defeater of Apep. She is so powerful that she was the âBody Guardâ for the King of the Gods Ra, defeater of evil incarnate. She is the last line of defense against oblivion.
She is no defenseless kitten but one of the most powerful deities of the Ancient Egyptians. She is a first Kingdom goddess with roots tracing to pre-dynasty tribal chieftains. She was a Lower Kingdom Goddess with her temple city Bubastis being just north of modern-day Cairo. So devoted to her worship were her people that when the Upper Kingdom came down and conquered the Lower Kingdom, thus uniting the two Kingdoms that though many of the Lower Egyptian Godâs were replaced with Upper Deities, as conquerors are want to do, Bast could not be replaced. Bast and Sekhmet respectively held the same position. However since there could only be one Warrior Goddess and protector of All of Egypt, Bast was shifted into the role of Protector of Ra, the royal family, and creation as they knew it. Through the thousands, yes thousands of years, the two started to become syncretized together and were often interchangeable. However, Sekhmetâs role was always to protect Egypt from outer forces while Bast main focus was that of inner troubles.
It wasnât until much later, when the Greekâs conquered Egypt that Bast was defanged and declawed much of her power given over to Dionysus and her name changed to Ailuros. Thousands of years after she was the Captain of the Guard to the Royal family of the Godâs, Defeater of Apep, She Who Devours, The Greeks made her Queen of Catâs losing her dual form of Cat-Woman she would only now be depicted as a small black cat.  Much of power and worship having been stripped away given to the male Greek Godâs of the conquering kingdom across the seas.
Egyptianâs didnât have the same feelings about sex as we do in this modern society. Bast is just as much a Warrior Goddess as she is the Sex Kitten, Mother, and Magician. She doesnât need to be either or, she is all and more. To trivialize her is insulting. If you want to work with her donât be lazy. Get to know the depths of her story. Know that she is more complicated, knowledgeable and powerful than you could ever imagine. Â Like most of us, she likes boxes but doesnât want to be trapped in one. Do not limit your perception of her; she will not thank you for it.

đŽTo truly understand Kemetism in an archeological and accurate way, itâs necessary to strip down the Neo Pagan Kemetic movement and go back to the core of what magick was historically in the Ancient Egyptian civilization.
đŽ
In the next few weeks I will be posting a crash course on Heka Magick, here starting with a short introduction.
Introduction:
â¨In Ancient Egyptian beliefs, Heka magick was the force used to create the world. Creation occurred from the Nun (a state and place of chaos) where the great serpent Apophis resided. (Apophis is he really seen as a malevolent entity throughout the mythology). The first land, the Primeval Mound, rose out of the Nun, and the creator made order out of chaos. Maat (both goddess and ideal) was the personification of this divine orderâ¨.
Then, humans and deities were created, including the god Heka, the âbaâ (soul or manifestation) of the sun and the energy making creation possible.
â¨
All deities and supernatural creatures, as well as Kings, had heka. Magical power is also called akhu- enchantments and spells. Heka was also practiced by priets in the form of rituals and prayers, and played a significant role in preparing a deceased person to enter Duat, the underworld- the ultimate test of your morality and life here on earth. Heka was also used for protection, as well as being employed by the gods and goddesses in their mythical struggles and stories to defeat their foes. These stories form the base of Ancient Egyptian beliefs and spirituality.
