Well. This was his life now.

He was supposed to be getting married to… Some girl. Okumura-san’s daughter. Oh, how he pitied her. Stuck with an idiot celebrity like him. He hoped she wasn’t a fan. he’d hate her all the more if she was. If she hated him… That was for the best.

He was stood behind Shido, as they walked in… They were to meet for the first time today. They’d only ever had candid shots of one another, and nothing else. No contact, no info… Nothing.

Haru wished she could let out the breath she had been holding. She still felt too tense to fully exhale, she made strides by relaxing her smile into a more neutral expression. Her father hand picked the candidates last year and apparently had settled on one just last month. Haru hadn’t so much learned their names, let alone looked at the glossy photos.

She had to school her expression when the first man entered the room. A sense of dreading hitting her in an instant, only for her panic to ease off when another, one who appeared to be closer to her age. He looked…familiar, but she couldn’t quite place where.

Then again, she glanced to her father; half-waiting for the rug to be pulled out from underneath her.

The gentlemen of fortune greeted one another, the teens left to hang back and remain unacknowledged for some time.

At last, “… and this is my daughter Haru,”

Unsure how to approach, Haru’s hands crossed in front of her, “It’s a pleasure to meet you..”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” He smiled at her, and bowed politely. 

“This is my son Goro. You two can go get to know one another.” Shido would say in that stern, yet uninterested voice that he always seemed to have when he was with Goro. “We have business to discuss.” That was the signal for Goro to get the fuck out of his face or else. 

Goro, of course, was more than happy to retreat off to the side to talk to Haru. “Sorry about him. He’s... always like this.” He explained with a strained smile. “It’s nice to finally meet you, you know. You looked very nice in the photos I’ve seen of you...” She clearly didn’t know who he was and that was GREAT, actually...

Akira took a sip of his coffee as Goro asked his own question. Now they were getting in to it. The other reason he’d come to the cafe. He held up a finger as he took another few sips. At least get a few sips in just in case something happened.

Then he set the cup down. Akira glanced to either side. Empty.

He folded his hands together and lightly set the on the counter, leaning forward with a smug grin. “Well, I told you I’m a detective. I’m helping with the case of the Thieves. And we have you as one of the prime suspects right now. I want to hear your side of the story.”

“Oh? That’s pretty weird all things considered.” He mused. How annoying... “What makes you say I’m a prime suspect? Have you seen my schedule?” Goro was gradually getting more and more annoyed at the mere notion of being told that. Not because he was guilty but because who was this detective jerk. Why was he in his shop being smug? This was already getting to be exhausting...
