The amount of times that I've been hanging out and have to check the windows because I hear something that sounds like an owl hooting or a dove cooing, only to realize that that's actually the sound of me breathing (asthma) is... Concerning.

Genuine question for my fellow pop culture pagans, but how do you keep going with the practice without feeling like you're making it up? I've been practicing pop culture paganism for awhile and have interacted with pop culture deities and spirits, and yet I can't shake the worry that I'm being delusional in some way.

Of course, many people would consider talking with any sort of spirit to be "delusional", so pop culture paganism isn't that much weirder than regular paganism in the eyes of some, but how do other pc pagans cope with this feeling?

As someone who's obsessed with Celtic languages I just have to say that we have no right making fun of Irish spelling and pronunciation when French is literally right there.

When French is using 90% silent letters and sounds like you're an alien adjusting to the earth's atmosphere everyone's like "Oh yeah that's just how they talk, let them do their thing" but suddenly when Irish does the same thing everybody treats it like it's an arcane fairy language incomprehensible to the human tongue. Fuck off.

Does anyone else start noticing their own weird little habits as they get older that they never noticed before? Anyway I tend to touch people's faces a lot when I'm comfortable with someone and I have two ways of doing it lol

The first one is used when I'm trying to comfort someone but the other one is for when I need someone to pay attention. Idk why I do it, I just kinda do

I remember being in middle school and going through like 5 new labels a week because I knew that I was queer and I had to find the exact right label to call myself, and now I'm a 23 year old queer who's just like "Gender means nothing to me and love is nebulous". I call myself genderfluid or nonbinary and aspec for convenience but really my identity is so much more than that but it doesn't really matter what people know and think of me. My identity works for me now, not the other way around

The way people think about pagans and witches is so funny because everyone acts like it's this dark forbidden art but then half the time it's you standing by your altar asking if Archangel Michael likes fish tacos or something

Friendly advice for my fellow spiritual people, you may know that the word "shaman" is considered controversial because it appropriates indigenous terms and is almost always used to describe specifically non-white practices, and white religious practices are almost never referred to as "shamanistic" even when they have similar features, so it's probably best not to use that word.

As an alternative, I would like to recommend using the word mystic instead, or mystical practices (as opposed to "shamanistic practices"). Historically the term mystic was used in a pretty similar way to the word shaman, and covers things like communing with spirits, trance or dream work, astral travel, protective magic and stuff like that, but it's not as appropriative. If you call someone a mystic, it's probably going to conjure a similar image to the word shaman, but it won't be as racist. So that's my advice!

The fact that there are a disgusting amount of fascists in the Norse pagan community confounds me because like,, this is the pantheon full of openly disabled and queer gods. Even the manliest god around wore a wedding dress at one point, and all of the women can and will kick your ass. Like do you know where you are sir??

Loki regularly changes gender and it's completely accepted and normal. He gave birth as a horse, and in the myth of Thor's "wedding" he's referred to as his handmaiden without any indication that he's "actually a man"

Thor wore a wedding dress to get Mjolnir back and while it is comedic, he still agreed to it

Odin was accused of changing genders by Loki during the Lokasenna, and took magic lessons on Seidr (which was commonly performed by women) from Freyja. He changed into a woman so he could learn from a woman. Oh, and he's disabled, missing an eye, and it's a mark of pride for him.

Tyr is missing his hand due to one of the bravest acts in the whole mythos.

Hodr is blind, and while he does play a role in the Death of Baldr because of his disability, he's still a renowned warrior and son of Odin regardless.

Freyja is a goddess of both love and war and a powerfil sorceress, and gets half of the share of slain warriors. Frigg is a goddess of fate and many of Odin's epithets revolve around her ("Delight of Frigg", etc.). Sif was likely a very important goddess because many of Thor and Jord's epithets revolve around her ("Husband of Sif" and "Mother-in-law of Sif" respectively). Skadi threatened to kill all of the Aesir for slaying her father and they had to appease her so she wouldn't. This pantheon loved powerful women.

And the Vikings had regularly trade and relations with people of color, including their contact with people from North Africa when they raided the Mediterranean and Islamic Spain during 859 and 862 AD. Norse Sagas literally have a word for dark-skinned people, "blámenn" which means "blue men" because the color black was considered to be a shade of blue by them. They literally have a word for people of color, they were not the pure white culture that racists think they were.

The Norse Pantheon is one of the queerest, campiest, most disabled and women-friendly pantheons of the world, and letting bigots who don't know how to properly read the original sources decide what they say for us isn't right. The Norse gods will always be accepting of others, and Odin is the All-Father, not the Some-Father

I bring a real 'actually people who are pregnant do deserve some special consideration because they are effectively at least temporarily disabled if not permanently after some complications' vibe to the party that a lot of people don't seem to like

Mistreatment towards pregnant people is especially infuriating because there seems to be this idea that they either wanted or deserve to be pregnant (like when people say that a woman deserves to get pregnant for being a slut) when it's a well-known fact that many pregnancies are not at all planned and assigning moral judgements to it is really gross

Best piece of advice I could give anyone is to stay away from anything that makes you feel small. People, places, situations… And continually check yourself about it too. Like regularly ask yourself if you feel like you’re closing in on yourself or opening up and able to bloom

A couple months ago I ordered some genetic testing to figure out if any of my disabilities are connected and the results just came back. They said that everything looks fine but apparently I have a genetic mutation that has literally never been seen before so nobody really knows what that means for my health. It could be what caused the developmental problems but it's also linked to dystonia, which I don't have, and it's literally never been documented so they have no idea what else it means, and they told me that they'll check in in 3 years to see if any new findings have come out. So that's. Fun.

As a kid I exclusively mained Sheik/Zelda and Kirby in Super Smash Bros but I kinda fell off with Zelda when they got rid of the feature that let you change between Zelda and Sheik (like in Melee), so now I'm learning how to main Robin in Super Smash Bros Ultimate because I love being able to change between male and female forms.
