I have to believe that caring for myself is not self indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.
Audre Lorde (via onlinecounsellingcollege)
Point Reyes, CA - Jan 2016
I'm worried that by taking a semester off during my depression and living at home for a year and a half during college has damaged my ability to relate and socialize with people my own age. I don't relate to any of these people. They constantly flee me. And when I wanted to talk to Matt for literally 30 seconds they all told him "bye man, see you later!" Like I'm some sort of suckubus mom who picks their kid up from the play date too early. I love my boyfriend. I love him more than anything else in this world. But I wish I had friends. I haven't had a best friend who hasn't been a romantic partner in five years and it freaks me tf out no lie. I'm worried I missed an integral part of growing up when I came back home. I don't regret taking off from school. It truly was one of my best decisions. But I can't help and feel like there was a trade off that I didn't sign on to. Idk y'all
Your first love gets you raw and open and naive and strong. Your first love gets the secrets that you never even knew you were meant to keep buried away. Your first love teaches you that love isnât about reckless kissing and hands all over the place, that itâs actually about learning and understanding and compromise and feeling so happy you might explode. Your first love takes you to the mountain tops and the stars there are more spectacular than any youâve ever seen. Your first love sits with you until your head finds a home in the crevice between their neck and shoulder and you want to stay, more than anything, you want to stay. Your first love laughs at your jokes and suddenly you are the worldâs greatest comedian, it doesnât matter that no one ever found you funny before, it doesnât matter than tomorrow you still have to face the world. Your first love is like a safe, where you hide the treasures most precious to you because you think theyâll be around forever. Your first love teaches you loneliness, teaches you about endings and goodbyes and emptiness. Your first love makes breaking an arm sound like a walk in the park. Your first love promises that they wonât forget and you believe them until you see them kissing someone else on the street that you used to meet. Your first love makes you bitter. And your second love makes that bitterness go away.

Whatever you fear the most has no power - it is your fear that has the power.

Dearest, there are no accidents, and no explanation I offer will satisfy you. You seek resolutions because youâre young, but you will understand this one day.
