You’re up to your elbow in a warm liquid. She buries your face in her beasts as you begin to panic. You’re shoulder deep now. The liquid slowly sucks you down until your mouth is full, you can no longer breath. You begin to drown until you feel a current move you down some unknown direction. You pass out in the swirling darkness. Coughing, you awaken on a rocky beach that extends endlessly through a vast ocean. You begin to walk searching for anything. Days pass, your strength dwindles. One morning the sun rises and you see a boat tied to a flimsy post. You untie it and climb in, the beach still crawls endlessly onward as the waves take you away. Darkness falls, the stars come out, the sun never rises. The stars fade away, as does your last bit of strength. There is nothing but darkness, and the light sounds of waves slapping against the boat, but there is no longer water. You and the boat continue through the endless dark.

It is everyone's responsibility in times like this, when international support is given to Ukraine and rightfully so, to remember others who are identically oppressed yet completely cast into a "controversial conflict" light. If a Ukrainian bombs himself to defend his country New York Post calls him a hero, yet if any other person of colour in a third world country does this the international community doesn't even blink, claiming they don't know enough information to support anyone. For god's sake, when footballers raise the Ukranian flag in a match it's a heroic move but when others raise the palestinian flag they are fined for promoting terrorism. This is not a post to undermine the situation in Ukraine or to question the righteousness to resist invaders, on the contrary. It's a call for anyone reading this to be critical of how each injustice is represented and how right and wrong are manipulated by people in charge for their own good.

Hey remember when they found over 200 bodies of native children buried behind a residential school and the world cared for... what, a week?

They've counted about 6,000-7,000 now, for those of you who do still care

We’re tired, mourning and constantly reopening our trauma and pain to keep people caring about us. It’s terrible.

Each dot on this map represents a residential school. Blue dots mean the school is considered completely searched. Yellow dots mean they are either in the process of being searched or there are plans to be searched. Red dots indicate that no search has happened and that no search is currently planned

There were more than 130 residential schools in Canada. This map suggests that only six have been fully searched, and a little more than a dozen partially searched (I counted 15 yellow dots). That leaves at least 109 schools completely untouched.

Let that sink in; if 6,000-7,000 unmarked, indigenous children’s graves were found by searching less than a fifth of all the schools, how many are still undiscovered.

Wikipedia estimates that the body count could be over 50,000, and honestly, that could be a low estimate

John Oliver Buys $15M of Medical Debt for $60K and Forgives It All, Because He Could

Once again John Oliver proves that you can do anything with money and lawyers

Oliver then proceeded to detail how with $50 and knowledge of the law he was able to successfully apply online to create a debt buying company named “Central Asset Recovery Professionals,” or as Oliver put it, “CARP” named after “a bottom-feeding fish.”

After setting up a rudimentary website for CARP, the satirical, but still real company was offered a $15 million package of medical debt for $60,000.

Oliver explained that the debt was out of statute, which means it is the kind of debt that a collector can only continue to collect, but not sue the debtor for.

Then, instead of chasing down the 9,000 debtors in the debt package as a normal collection agency would, Oliver decided to stage the largest one-time giveaway in television history and work with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to forgive the $15 million with no consequences for the debtors.

Title = Subject Matter

I’d write a story about today But that would make the lack of intimacy Seem far too intimate So I wrote a short piece titled “Which of us Will Feel the Worst First?” But the rhyme made it sound too upbeat And I changed it to “Probably Me” But that wouldn’t make any sense.

I wrote some fancy metaphors About us being caesuras Because we are a pause in the line That’s trying to finish it’s sentence. I feared more people would understand What I meant more than I myself did So I titled the piece “Don’t Read too into this, because there are Multiple Holes in Logic.” Then I realized no one would read it If they wouldn’t have fun mocking me So added a sticker that said “Red pen included”

My editor said it was terrible She told me to “add more love, No one cares about your problems” I went home and followed her advice A week later she emailed me stating “I Want to tell you I Love You in the Same Writing Style as Bukowski but We both Know it won’t Make You Love Me Again” was too long. The email I sent back held the title “The Answer to the Question is No: A Love Story” She said it was good enough. But I refused to get it published Because I didn’t want you to see I had written it about you.

I spent the next day Mulling over my diction And whether or not The blood from my heart Poured onto the page Was in a readable font. In my bloodless state I gained a near death epiphany And knew what to title my next piece “I Know this Wound Will Heal and the Scar will Fade Eventually, but God don’t Let it Take too Long”

Texas Republicans are now trying to pass Bill SB1646, which would remove transgender minors from parents who affirm their gender and support them getting proper transition care.

I repeat, they are trying to criminalize parents supporting their trans children and make it legally child abuse, and a removable offense

Not unexpected, but disappointed that the Arkansas General Assembly overrode a veto to pass a law even their Republican Governor deemed “a vast government overreach.”

The legal challenges are coming.
