âOh, look at us leaving a party so early.â Selina said as she and Jesse exited the building. âHow lame.â
âThatâs what happens when youâve got a fussy two month old who wonât let you hang out for more than a few hours.â Jesse laughed. âBut I promise weâll stay out as long as you want on your birthday.â
âAwww, thanks, baby.â Selina smiled. âYou know Iâve been dying to catch up with my dance sisters. They donât evenââ She stopped in her tracks when she noticed Beckett lurking outside the building, looking tipsy and disheveled.
âWhatâre you doing out here?â Jesse said, standing between Selina and Beckett.
âWhatâs it to you?â Beckett glared at them. âCanât a man sulk outside a building in peace?â
âNot with a bottle of whiskey he canât.â Selina raised an eyebrow.
âYeah, man, you look a little out of it.â Jesse looked him up and down. âDid you drive here? You want me to call you a cab or something?â
Beckett scoffed. âYou just love playing the nice guy, donât you? You want everyone around you to think youâre some perfect little angel.â He grinned like a fool. âBet youâre getting real tired of acting nice.â
âOh wow. The dickhead is baffled by genuine human compassion.â Selina said sarcastically. âWhat a shocker.â
âHah. Genuine.â Beckett snorted. âAs ifâŠâ
âCâmon, Lina, letâs just go.â Jesse wrapped his arm around her protectively. âItâs getting late and Marcelâs gonna wake up soon.â
âYeah, run away like you always do. You act all tough but I know youâre a coward.â Beckett taunted, trailing after them.
âSeriously, dude, stop following us.â Jesse looked at him uncomfortably. âJust how shit-faced are you?â
âGo back to the party, Martin.â Selina said, clinging to Jesse with her free arm. âWe have a baby with us, just leave us alone.â
Beckett paused. âI canât go back in there.â He narrowed his eyes. âOr did you forget what you did earlier?â
âUgh, a little wine on your shirt isnât gonna ruin a party.â Selina rolled her eyes. âGet it together.â
Beckett started laughing like a mad man. âIf you think all you did was ruin my best shirt, youâre out of your mind.â
âWhatâre you talking about?â Jesse stared at him in confusion. âWe didnât do anything.â
âOh yeah? After your little stunt today, Freeman kicked me out.â Beckett explained. âHe saw what happened earlier and fired me. Thatâs my whole career right down the drain.â He shot daggers at Selina. âHappy now, you stupid bitch?â
Jesse blinked a few times. âWhat did you just call her?â
Beckett groaned. âI said sheâs a worthless whore who ruiââ
Jesse cut him off with a punch to the face.
âGoddammit!â Beckett grimaced in pain. âGah, what the hell?â
âDonât ever talk to my girlfriend like that.â Jesse said with a terrifying glare. âBut you were right. I was getting tired of being nice to an asshole like you so thanks for that.â He took Selinaâs hand. âNow donât come near me or my family again.â
