i'm better now but i get very upset thinking about my childhood, about my family. i am lucky too, for everything i have, and for the opportunity to go to the university as a first generation baby. but i feel like i don't belong here. i feel like i'll never really get past my childhood. i'm 24 and i still feel like a baby. i can't make myself food on most days. i can't bring myself to speak to people. i can't convince myself that anything i do is good enough. i don't believe in myself. i really don't know when i'll feel like i belong somewhere.

Martha Escobar’s essay provides a comparative and relational analysis of the detention, incarceration, deportation, and family separation of migrant women and the history of the criminalization of Black motherhood in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s. She reinforces the notion that incarceration is a mechanism for racialized social organization. For Escobar, the U.S. prison regime’s mobilization against migrants has as its context the criminalization of the bodies of Black women. The deployment of notions of Black mothers as ‘breeders of lawlessness’ fueled the expansion of the criminal justice system. By tracing how the ideological work performed to criminalize Black motherhood has been re-mapped onto migrant women, Escobar highlights the centrality of women’s reproduction in the racial organization of society, which takes place through the containment of bodies. She maintains that this dynamic is a fundamental method of regulating labor relations in the era of neoliberalism.

Political Prisoner: Byron Chubbuck AKA Oso Blanco

Byron Chubbuck is a wolf clan Cherokee/Choctaw raised in New Mexico. His Native American name is Oso Blanco but he became known by the authorities as “Robin the Hood” after the FBI and local gang unit APD officers learned from a CI that Oso Blanco was robbing banks to send thousands of dollars worth of supplies to the Zapatista Rebels of Chiapas on a regular basis during 1998 and 1999.

Oso Blanco is now serving 80 years in Lee, Virginia.

Update: Oso Blanco and his cell mate were recently sent to solitary confinement for possessing a supposed “escape tool”.

The item in question was a photo drawn by Oso, which was of a Cherokee burial mound and a drawing of the prison.

Oso feels that the charge is a set up and he fears that he will be placed back into Special Management Unit (SMU), where he will likely have phone and commissary restrictions and spend most of his days in the hole (solitary confinement).

Please please take a second to call or email the prison on behalf of Byron Chubbuck and ask to speak to the Warden. Tell them that you believe the charges are baseless and urge them not to discipline Oso.

i have 1144 words written for my paper on anti and post colonial nationalisms and neoliberalism and Fanon and Gramsci etc. that means i'm a bit over halfway finished. somehow i got most of that done in the last hour.

either ambien has left me feeling a bit lethargic still, or i'm still really exhausted from working last night. i have to work *another* closing shift tonight and i don't know how i'm going to handle it. ugh. and then work on all three of my final essays after i'm done? lol. i can't wait to be done with this shit.
