I feel like you should all know that in Dutch the word for 'mischief' is 'kattenkwaad' which literally translates to "cat's evil(doings)" and the reason I was reminded of that is because every night I tell my foster kittens to be nice while I sleep (lest we end up with two of them stuck under a box again for god knows how long), but tonight I decided to go with a (grammatically) negative phrase, so I said "don't do any mischief" and then as I was saying the word 'kattenkwaad' I realised that might be asking too much of them, given that they're, you know, cats.

Last season of Euphoria really is so ugly and reflective of American society and rising conservatism rn. Nothing but shitty Bible propaganda, rampant anti-blackness, exploitation and humiliation of women and the abuse of sex workers shown to the audience for lurid thrills, one of the lesbian leads dead and another (the trans one) trapped in an outlandish D/s sugar baby relationship tormented and making art and chasing male approval….we live in HELL. It’s so obvious how much this season was injected with stupid ass misogynistic ass homophobic/transphobic ass fantasies and I HATE it.

​trying to gage this - i personally think it’s unnecessary, as ao3 is not an american territory that im publishing into, but ive had comments before that lead me to think it takes people out of the story. let me know your thoughts! :)

just to add:

by “americanise” i mean purely in terms of vocab/grammar, for example the use of em dashes is different (in the uk we use -, in the us you use —), or you guys would say “apologize” rather than “apologise”

i agree that if a story is set in america, i wouldn’t be writing “bloody hell” and using “pavement” instead of “sidewalk”. i do think there is some nuance there!
