thoughts on americanising fic
i’m american, i don’t care
i’m american, i would rather you americanise your fic
i’m not american, i don’t care
i’m not american, i would rather you americanise your fic
i have a different opinion (pls explain in tags!)
trying to gage this - i personally think it’s unnecessary, as ao3 is not an american territory that im publishing into, but ive had comments before that lead me to think it takes people out of the story. let me know your thoughts! :)
just to add:
by “americanise” i mean purely in terms of vocab/grammar, for example the use of em dashes is different (in the uk we use -, in the us you use —), or you guys would say “apologize” rather than “apologise”
i agree that if a story is set in america, i wouldn’t be writing “bloody hell” and using “pavement” instead of “sidewalk”. i do think there is some nuance there!
say what you will about trisha paytas but she had her finger on the pulse with this one

I think a lot of people who make mpreg jokes do it because they consider pregnancy something that 'tames' a person and 'knocks them down a peg'. They think pregnancy is something that marks a person as inherently submissive. Getting pregnant means being submitted to them.
They also think that male pregnancy is a feminist concept not because it recognises trans and intersex men as men, but because something 'feminine' and 'submissive' is forced upon a man. Because that's what pregnancy is to them - something that is done to a person. They think pregnancy is emasculating. Remember this meme?
To people like this it's a feminist line because a woman dominated a man by impregnating him. This is an incredibly fucked up and misogynistic view of pregnancy, and it also reveals the shallow understanding of feminism a lot of people have: masculinity is dominance and femininity is submission, so the idea of a man in a feminine position is inherently feminist, because he is submitted. Especially if he was put in this position by a woman, because then the switch is complete - the woman is the dominant one by forcing him into something.
And yes, I said the idea of a man in a feminine position is inherently feminist to them, NOT the man himself. The feminine position he is in makes him an object to be viewed and discussed, not a subject with thoughts and beliefs. The pregnant man is not a feminist, he's a feminist concept. That, I think, is the core of the problem with mpreg jokes - to people who make them, a pregnant man is an idea, a symbol, a fictional situation, instead of a real human being. They ignore the existance of actual men that can get pregnant in favour of the idea of them, because the first one has agency, and the second one has no agency (because he exists in their head). To people like that, pregnant men = blorbos jokingly impregnated by defying biology, or blorbos in omegaverse AUs, not the living, breathing trans and intersex men. They imagine pregnant men for many reasons: as a sexual fantasy, to make a joke, to declaw and tame them, but never to actually consider what it's like for real life men with uteruses. Pregnancy is just another situation they can put their blorbos in, not a real thing some men go through. So there's no space in their minds for the discrimination we face in gynecological and prenatal care, or the fear of being forcibly impregnated as a way to detransition us. Pregnant men are theoretical to them, just like catboys, so they get annoyed when we remind them that we exist and shoo us away claiming they're not talking about us.
Here is my next hand sewn teddy bear. German mohair is quite an expensive fabric but I was able to get his from a bear I found at the salvation army for 4$, his stuffing and felt is also the same so if teddies have souls he for sure has the same one as he did before. Below I have some process pics when where you can see the bear he was before
immediately after an interaction: i have GOT to get more normal oh god i need to get more normal immediately i have to get more normal or they're going to hunt me down they're going to hunt me down and flay me for sport
during an interaction: and why not put a little spin on it? why not add some conversational zest?
KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.
the oldest reblogs for this post that i can find are from january 2nd of 2013. this can has been getting kicked around tumblr for almost 13½ years now
And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!
the version of you from five years ago would be genuinely amazed by what you’ve handled since then. sit with that for a second
Something I learned is if you don't step out of your artistic comfort zone a little, you're gonna be even more exhausted with making art. Your mind is a caged tiger and it needs to attack something new from time to time. Your mind is pacing in its enclosure 🐅
If you don't like drawing figures and poses because they're frustrating, draw figures and poses and get frustrated! Draw them! With anger! Swear and curse at them!
If you don't like drawing traditionally because there's too much room to make mistakes, draw traditionally and make mistakes! Scream while doing it! Put on scary music! Make it silly!
This goes for any kind of craft or skill
You stand to lose nothing in the end (Except maybe your own patience and sanity but that's temporary). But you do gain at least a little bit more knowledge and skill to feed your mind tiger
Wow thanks for the ingot man let me just inspect the quality real quick
Dude come on
underrated tumblr feature is being able to catch up to yourself on your dash. so there is an END POINT. and you can say “ah, I have reached where I left off, there is no more to see! I’ll take my leave now and come back later when there are new posts.” instead of being stuck forever in a bottomless algorithm pit digging deeper and deeper till you have to summon monumental strength to climb out
Like clockwork
For reference
I'm not forgiving Neil Gaiman fans for elevating his #deconstruction of Snow White that's just a textbook "born evil baby" nonsense with less nuance than The Omen or Bad Seed
A really disheartening thing about people being on the alert for AI content is now anything that falls outside of expectations is being yelled really loudly at by people that havent previously been observing the world all that closely and like. suspecting anything that doesnt look entirely mundane. or like. not knowing that deer will sort of jump about erratically or how fat n muscles move in real life or what light looks like on different materials. So like, ironically, ai content that gives a cartoonish, expected version of events is less suspected while anyone who posts interesting animal footage gets dogpiled.
The good end of this is a resurgence in observing the real world and drawing from life, but, yknow, it wont
