Patterns on hanbok depended on the economic status of a person. Yangban (the ruling class) wore silk. The lower class wore cotton, ramie, hemp, and Korean paper.
this moving image just because
So long and thanks for all the fish
Or pizza. Or beer. Or the amazing group of people to constantly be wowed and inspired by. The Gargoyle is full of great things, in other words. I want to thank it as an amorphous idea and project--and especially the people involved with it--that have contributed in a wonderful way to my experience at UofT these last three years.
I'm signing off this year as web editor--a role that had its test run this year--and I'm shocked how quickly the time has passed. Spring is around the corner, and soon fellow students will be much less crabby. Woo! Toronto in general will become a happier place. While the city gradually becomes rainforest-esque in its climate and surroundings, all Gargoyle staff new and old will acquire an absurd collection of hangovers and sunburns. And we will be all the stronger for it. Debauchery has its healing effects.
In case you didn't know, the Gargoyle is a incredibly welcoming, forgiving, whimsical, cool sort of newspaper. It has to be one of the most inclusive places I can think of. Also, it boasts what might be the most eclectic space to hang on campus in terms of decor and fashions. Friends, thoughts, and new jokes are abundantly available here, and I would urge anyone interested to come visit the lair sometime (F door basement), spot Ilea or Isabel in the JCR and say hi (they are really cool), or simply contribute your thoughts about almost anything in the form of an article, poem, photograph, or illustration. We need cool people to help us out, and we also like to hear what they have to say. That has been a goal of starting up a tumblr this year: even though it has been haphazardly updated, it was an exercise to reach more people who might be interested in the Gargoyle.
I am pleased to announce that I am passing on the torch for this ol' job to Maya Kotlier Bernal for 2013. She has acted as the Opinions editor for the last two years and I am pretty sure she's gonna be fantastic in her new position. Catch her on here next year.
Also excited for all the rest of The Gargoyle's editorial staff. They are quite neat.
THANKS READERS, EDITORS, STAFF
You are all ballin'

...so, duck penises are weird. Look forward to weird moments such as these in our annual sex issue, coming your way via production night on Thursday, February 7. We'll be flaunting our junk with flair, flair without coils. Sorry, Mr. Duck.
Sex issue coming soon, send us your tits (but please--cover your face!) via the fine artistic medium of photography. Alternately, show us your face but cover your tits and bits. And don't forget to feature the Gargoyle in some capacity whilst you are striking a pose. The deadline for you to get nekkid is February 6, that is when we will be accepting the last of the photos. There are sexy prizes involved for the best submissions, ou la la.
Visit our office from 12-3 Monday to Friday to peruse some older issues for some sexy inspiration.
BE AFRAID, very afraid. New Garg feat. deep sea creatures coming at ya this time next week.
P.s. Not going to lie, very obsessed with octopi at the moment
So the new issue of The Gargoyle is out, and it's almost unbearably awesome. Take a look for yourself and learn some new things about treating common colds, where to drink good beer, rabbit-themed street art and more. Also top kudos to Carla for the somewhat sinister illustration of the old lady on our front cover. Victorian-tinged spookiness. Great!
Our next issue will consider the sublimity of the deep sea--its horror!--and also some creepy pasta treats. If you're into it, start thinking about your submissions in the form of articles, poetry or prose or visual art for this year's Halloween issue. They'll be due on Tuesday, October 16 at midnight. We're excited for this one.
Tonight we'll be producing all night long in the Garg lair, see ya there
7 PM, UC F7
Crosstown traffic
I'll be the first to admit that Nuit Blanche can be more of a headache than a good time. Even though I'm a fan of its mandate to promote curiosity and interaction with locally and internationally practicing contemporary artists, it can be a bit...sensually manic. Too much traffic, too much sprawl. The art sometimes/often leaves much to be desired.
Nonetheless, this year seems to offer some enticing prospects. The projects featured in and around the U of T campus tend to fulfil one's art participation in a good way. Some particularly neat ones are taking place at UC's very own Art Centre, spilling out into the centre of the quad. I would check these out. More information about what's in store is available here. Don't forget to take a look at Hart House and its tuneful exhibit on piano's at Justina M. Barnecke. They usually have some neat things to look at and take part in.
After U of T, sound bets are scattered about Queen West from Trin Bellwoods to Dufferin, and in and around Ossington. If you're brave, there is also downtown--Nathan Phillips Sqaure and its neighbourhood cronies, etc.
Enjoy the night, my sweets!
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Give thanks for the Garg, send us your submissions for this upcoming issue. We want (and would be very, very thankful for) your short articles on arts & culture, science and opinions, your fiction, poetry, drawings and photography. This is issue is themeless, so not to worry if what you have to say this time doesn't fit a particular taxonomy. Thank goodness! Excited to see all of your fine faces next Thursday starting at 7pm in the Gargoyle Lair at UC, F7. We'll be there!

P.S. Another thing to be thankful for: the latest issue is on campus, ready for your perusal. Go get it!
The first issue of the year, almost here. It's going to be a good one. Read it cover to cover soon by picking up your very own issue around the U of T campus later this week. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek to sate those lusty Gargolian cravings--so you'll know what to look for when the paper issue is finally out and about.
Tonight's the night. The very first production night of the year. Stay tuned for our first issue, juicy fotos from tonight's cutting and pasting and introductions to this year's editorial staff in the form of hilarious and/or terrifying comics and illustrations. Also, we're going to be telling you more about what to expect on the blog as the year unfolds, and how it will connect to the paper in its printed form, our website, facebook and twitter. It's going to be a real good time, and that's all you need to know for now. GET READY Y'ALL
...and enjoy Neil Young. Because he is the man for cool fall evenings such as this one.
Foray into this year's production night. So bright, sunglasses required.
