You know what I loved about Infinity War? That I went to the movie theatre. Why? Because of the audience there. We laughed at the same time. Most people cried with me. We gasped at the same time. And at the one scene the WHOLE MOVIE THEATRE WENT SILENT. No one talked. No one were eating. It was just silence when we all went shocked. This is why I always choose watching movies in theaters. This is exactly what I’m here for.

Have people realized that after Loki says “Odinson” and looks at Thor teary eyed then turns back to Thanos and says “swear to you my undying fidelity”, he’s actually saying that to Thor? It was around the same moment the knife appeared in his hand. He decided he was dying for his brother then, and he wanted to settle all the history between them and he wanted him to know he was loyal to him until his dying breath. The look in Thor’s eyes shows that he understood what it means and he’s so goddamn scared. It fucks me up.

At this point, dismissing s4 as garbage looks like willful ignorance, or an exercise in ego. Stop clinging to the vision of what you wanted and thought s4 would be and look rationally at what s4 is. Once you engage with it honestly, in good faith, you can then criticize it more fairly. 

For instance, I think it’s a very fair argument that the story is being dragged out too long and that they are testing the viewer’s patience. I think that they knew that this show was so successful, and its stars so big, and its fanbase so large, and its hardcore fanbase so large and engaged, that they pushed it because they knew they could take that risk. Was that too much ego on their part? Sure, quite possibly. They knew it wouldn’t destroy their chance at making a s5 nor would it hurt their careers or the careers of its stars; they knew how closely the hardcore fans were watching; they took a creative risk. It’s fair to critique them for that risk or to not like being challenged to this degree as a viewer; it’s okay to not like s4. I don’t like s4 either. However it’s a bad faith argument to critique them for just putting out “trash.” 

I was about to write that it’s also fair to critique them for not being clear or obvious enough but realized that no, I can’t say that…. because how much more obvious can they be regarding their intentions. We see the way they telegraphed the direction of the show and these characters’ relationships; we see how glaringly wrong TFP in particular looked. How much more wrong could they have made it? Everyone already felt that it looked wrong! They went to absurd lengths to make it feel wrong. It’s so silly to then yell that it’s wrong. Of course it’s wrong! 

I was mad about that profound wrongness too but then decided to stop being mad and start trusting my senses again.
