    U G H — he knew HER type. long, blonde hair pulled back into a     PERKY ponytail, bright PINK outfit matching SPARKLING PINK     nails, and an air of UNNECESSARY authority over the vicinity—     the perfect ingredients that made a PREP. he’d caught her     condescending eye more times than he could count and could feel     the tension in the air. he had to assert some sort of dominance to     lower her ego, had to find just the right words to stop her in her tracks—

  awkward and sweaty is more or less his default state of being these days. it’s   not helped by the strange setting and the summer heat, but around GIRLS?   doesn’t matter whether he knows and likes them or just met them, but there’s   been an excessive amount of perspiration these days. ( in all honesty, this is   one part of growing up he could do without. )   she looks to be about wendy’s age ( older women, that’s even worse ) though   he’s never seen her around before. he fights the crack in his voice as he tries   to be hospitable, at least.                 “ you know, none of the stuff in here is real,                   but there’s all kinds of supernatural stuff                   OUT THERE. “

               courtney is always the first person to admit that she’s stunning,   the quickest to notice when a BOY can’t stop staring   ( and coincidentally,  the last to accept when someone’s NOT into her ).    NINE out of TEN times,  the knowledge delights her;         but this boy CAN’T be older than her brother   &&.  she’s been in a cramped car with her family for at LEAST eight hours straight.    this was not the time for games.                she hopes the way she examines her sparkling pink nails is enough to tell him she is NOT particularly interested    ( as if  HE could tell her anything about  ‘ supernatural stuff ’  after what she’s seen anyway. )                    “ i KNOW,   kid.     trust me,  i know.  i have seen some weird sh   stuff but,   here’s a tip,  most people don’t use that as an ICEBREAKER. ”
