Today at EmpowHER Junior 2024 in Kailali, we focused on turning our ideas into real action. We had the chance to pitch our community projects to our mentors, who listened to our plans and gave us helpful feedback. It was exciting to share what we’ve been working on, but also a little scary because we wanted to make sure our ideas were clear and strong.

The feedback from our mentors was so valuable. They helped us think of ways to improve our projects, making sure we were prepared to make a real impact. Even though the process was challenging at times, it gave me more confidence to move forward. I realized that getting advice and learning from others is a big part of making our ideas successful.

By the end of the session, I felt proud of the progress we made. It’s amazing to see our ideas taking shape and knowing that we’re working towards something that could help our communities. I’m excited to keep improving our projects and put them into action.

Change starts with an idea, and today at EmpowHER Junior 2024 in Kailali, we took our first steps in designing community projects. We spent time brainstorming the issues that affect adolescent girls in our communities, like limited access to education and safety concerns. It was amazing to see how many ideas we had when we worked together, and it felt good to be thinking about how to solve these problems.

We then worked as a team to come up with solutions for those issues. Some of us suggested starting awareness campaigns, while others thought about creating support groups for girls. It was great to see how everyone’s ideas came together, and I realized how important it is for us to share our thoughts and collaborate to create change.

By the end of the session, I felt empowered. It was exciting to realize that we, as young girls, can make a difference in our communities. Our voices and actions can bring about real change, and I’m more confident than ever that we can create a better future for all of us.

Today's session at EmpowHER Junior 2024 in Kailali was truly eye-opening. We talked about harmful traditional practices that still exist in our community and how they affect the lives of many people, especially girls. It was shocking to realize how some of these practices continue to hurt us, and it made me want to learn more about how we can stop them.

One of the most important things we learned was about our legal rights. We were taught how the law protects us and gives us the power to stand up against these unfair practices. This knowledge made me feel much more confident. I now know that I don’t have to stay silent when I see something wrong happening around me.

We also learned a lot about our rights as citizens. The session helped us understand that we all have a voice in how things are run, and it’s important to know how we can use that voice. EmpowHER Junior 2024 in Kailali was an amazing experience that helped me learn and grow. After building a strong foundation on what leadership is, we moved on to turn our ideas into real action. We focused on the problems that adolescent girls face in our communities. It was eye-opening to realize how many challenges there are, like limited education opportunities and safety concerns, that affect so many girls around us.

Together, we brainstormed creative solutions to these problems. We shared our ideas, talked about what we could do, and discussed how to make a positive change in our communities. It was exciting to see everyone come up with solutions, from starting awareness programs to creating safe spaces for girls. When we think of leadership, we often imagine someone in charge with a big title, but leadership is much more than that. In a recent session, I learned that being a leader is about knowing yourself and including others. It’s not just about having a fancy title; it’s about understanding your strengths, how you feel, and how you connect with others. By doing some fun and thoughtful activities, we explored what it truly means to be a leader, and I realized that leadership comes from within, not from a position.

During the session, we did some activities where we thought about our unique qualities. Everyone has different ways of leading, and that’s okay! Some people lead by talking, while others lead by listening or helping. We learned that being a good leader is about being yourself and finding your style. It was so cool to see how we all brought something different to the table, and how all those styles can be important in various situations.

The first day of the program did not start as planned, as I arrived a little late, which caused a slight delay in the schedule. However, once the session commenced, I quickly became immersed in the following activities and discussions.

One of the most valuable lessons I gained from the Leading Leadership Program was the importance of respecting others and actively listening to and understanding their perspectives. While dedication is crucial, true leadership involves empathy, patience, and inclusivity. This realization broadened my understanding of what it means to be an effective leader.

As the day progressed, we had a lunch break where we sat together with our friends and teachers, engaging in meaningful discussions about leadership and the insights we had gathered so far. Sharing our thoughts over a meal fostered a sense of camaraderie and deeper reflection on the program's key takeaways.

After lunch, we participated in a series of interactive games that added an element of fun and teamwork to the experience. Two of our friends emerged victorious in one of the games, and towards the end of the session, our teacher distributed prizes to the winners as well as to all participants as a token of encouragement.

Mangsir 13th was a day filled with learning, enjoyment, and memorable moments. The experiences and lessons from this program will undoubtedly help shape my leadership journey in the future.

My name is Sanjivani.

I attended the Empower Junior program conducted by the Ujyalo Foundation at 9:00 AM this morning. Our day started with tea and biscuits. After all the participants had arrived, we officially began the session.

Today's session focused on project presentations, budgeting, and a visit to the local government. In my group, we collaborated to create a project campaign against child marriage. Today marked the fourth day of our session. After completing the project, we presented our work.

I was the one who presented on behalf of my group. As someone who used to fear introducing myself, standing confidently to deliver a presentation felt like a huge achievement. This transformation is entirely due to this program, which I find incredibly inspiring and impactful. Seeing this change in myself has made me very happy. For this, I am deeply grateful to the Ujyalo Foundation and also want to sincerely thank the facilitators who supported us throughout.

Later, we visited the local government office. There, we discussed our project ideas with the female ward members and the women's group of the municipality. They assured us of their support for our project, which made us very happy.

We were a group of 20 participants, divided into four groups with five members each. Afterward, we had our lunch at 9:00 AM. The food was delicious, and we had fun while eating. Unfortunately, one of our friends fell sick and had to go home, which made us all wish luck for her.

Later, we worked on budgeting and discussed the positive aspects of the session as well as areas for improvement. Finally, we all headed back to our homes and I was appreciative to have become a session representative for the Understanding Local Government and Immersion Visit.

My name is Sandhya Kadel. I am 13 years old and currently studying in Grade 8 at Shri Janjyoti Secondary School. I am a change-maker under the Empower HER Junior program and session representative of Understanding Local Government and Immersion Visits as organized by the Ujyalo Foundation. Through this program, I have gained valuable knowledge and skills. As a change-maker, I am learning and growing in various aspects of leadership and community development.

This program has helped me express my thoughts confidently in front of others and engage in meaningful conversations with people older than me. We have also learned about the local government budgeting process and how to make it more effective.

On Mangsir 16, we discussed areas where improvements can be made and shared solutions to address various challenges. Participants actively shared their problems and worked together to find practical ways to solve them. This session encouraged us to express our emotions and approach problem-solving with a fresh perspective.

During the session, we enjoyed delicious snacks and participated in discussions in a friendly and engaging environment. It not only boosted our confidence but also enhanced our ability to express ourselves emotionally. This program has become a significant platform for bringing positive changes to my life.

On 2081/8/15, after completing my morning chores, I headed towards the municipality to attend the Empower 2024 Junior program. Upon reaching the venue, we started the day with tea and biscuits.

The session officially began with a video presentation by our facilitator. After watching the video, we engaged in a discussion about how to work effectively in groups. During this discussion, I learned several important aspects of teamwork, such as:

Solving problems collaboratively.

Ensuring the consent of all group members.

Sharing knowledge and learning from each other.

Listening to everyone's opinions and understanding their perspectives.

Maintaining clear communication to avoid misunderstandings.

Recognizing that one person cannot do everything, and not everyone is capable of doing all tasks.

We also learned about empathy and how to work together harmoniously.

After this, we played some games, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Following the games, we had some snacks and then resumed our activities with another round of games. Once the games concluded, we discussed the projects we had worked on within our respective groups.

During this discussion, we identified the problems, set clear objectives, and brainstormed solutions. We also talked about coordination—who to approach, where to go, and which areas to focus on for effective implementation.

Afterward, we returned to our groups and shared our plans with our peers, focusing on creating a safe and supportive environment. We continued working on these tasks with enthusiasm and enjoyed the process.

I especially appreciated the facilitator’s emphasis on treating everyone with respect and dignity. Participating in this program and getting the opportunity to become a session representative of Community Project Designing also helped me improve my communication skills and boosted my confidence.

Hello, my name is Asmita BK. I am a Grade 8 student at Shri Janjyoti Secondary School and a change-maker under the EmpowHER Junior program organized by the Ujyalo Foundation.

Today, we began our day by participating in activities and having tea and biscuits for breakfast. We watched a video showcasing the experiences of previous change-makers, which provided valuable insights into their journeys and achievements. Following this, we had a session introducing traditional practices, where we learned about their significance and impacts. This session deepened our understanding of the importance of addressing harmful customs in a thoughtful and informed way.

Later, an interactive workshop allowed us to share our thoughts and ideas, fostering a collaborative learning environment. During the break, we enjoyed snacks before engaging in role-playing activities that were both educational and entertaining. A storytelling session followed, teaching us important lessons through engaging narratives.

We also attended a session on understanding violence, where we discussed its various forms and impacts. This session helped us recognize the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment. Toward the end of the day, we reflected on our experiences, sharing what we found meaningful and identifying areas for improvement. The day concluded with the distribution of prizes and arrangements for transportation reimbursement.

Overall, the day was filled with meaningful activities and learning opportunities. From understanding traditional practices to discussing violence and its consequences, the sessions provided deep insights. The storytelling and role-playing activities added an engaging touch, making the experience even more memorable. I am fortunate to be part of the Empower Junior program and be a session representative for Understanding Harmful Traditional Practices. I look forward to applying these lessons in my life.

This morning, I woke up at 6:13 AM, washed my face and hands, and had tea and bread with my family. After breakfast, I went to the market with my grandmother and took some money from her to buy a few things. I spent about 10 minutes in the market and then returned home.

At home, I completed some leftover homework from the previous day. While working, I noticed and enjoyed many interesting things in the books I was reading. Around 9:00 AM, I started getting ready to go to the municipality. I was excited to see what the day holds for me as I had been selected to become a session representative for Understanding Harmful Traditional Practices. It took me about 5 minutes to dress up, and then I went to a nearby neighbor's house, where I joined an older brother to take an auto-rickshaw to the market. From there, we headed to the municipal office.

Upon arriving at the municipality, we met Diksha didi (facilitator). We signed our attendance on a paper provided to us. After that, we had tea and biscuits while waiting for the session to begin. Soon, our facilitator, Diksha Didi, started the session with a video presentation.

The video focused on the challenges and hardships women face in society. It emphasized how harmful practices negatively impact women and how we can work together to bring about positive change. The facilitator highlighted the importance of creating a supportive and safe environment for women and girls.

After watching the video, we discussed topics related to harmful traditional practices and how they can be replaced with positive ones. The session also included a discussion about fostering a healthy environment for adolescent girls.

Later, we engaged in some fun games, which everyone enjoyed. After the games, we had snacks and continued with the program. We reflected on our feelings and shared our thoughts about the session.

Toward the end, we wrote down our feedback and shared key messages we learned during the day. The session left me feeling inspired and motivated to contribute to positive changes in society.

Hi, I am Upama Adhikari Session Representative of Session - II on Understanding Harmful Traditional Practices. Today, I reached the municipal hall in the morning. There, a few other friends had also arrived to assist with the program EmpowHer Junior by Ujyalo Foundation. The first thing I did was register myself. After that, we had tea and cookies before starting with our agenda.

Our agenda began with a video presentation featuring the participants. The presenter delivered an excellent performance, which I found very impressive. Following this, we moved on to our main agenda: harmful traditional practices.

The Facilitator representative explained what harmful traditional practices are. We identified practices such as superstitions, child marriage, discrimination against girls during menstruation, dowry, and others as harmful. The representative provided various examples to help us understand these issues better.

We also discussed patriarchy, psychological aspects, and topics like witch accusations. For instance, we explored why women are predominantly labeled as witches and the social psychology behind it. The session was divided into four groups, each focusing on harmful traditional practices, their causes, and potential solutions.

Afterward, we had a snack break and took some time to relax. For entertainment, we played a few games together. We then discussed our project in detail and divided ourselves into smaller groups to focus on specific topics.

One of the key lessons of the day was about gender discrimination. At the end of the session, prizes were awarded to the winners by the facilitator. We were offered fruits as we went forward with the program, and our transportation expenses were reimbursed. With that, we concluded the program and returned home.
