The history of Splatoon as I remember it: Magneto got really cranky and the world got flipped-turned-upside-down. Sea levels rose, causing the continents and the kingdom of Hyrule to be lost under the sea. But instead of becoming a haven for mutants, it became a haven for shoes, sea creatures, and j-pop. And then the octo-nation invaded. But that's another story for another day.
