I know I asked for the helly r / helena and irving b / irving bailiff dynamics I know I ASKED for it EXPLICITLY. but god damn I think I got more than I was ready for. their dynamic has made me insane since day one but it just gets better and better. irving's individual character development, and how it shifts his dynamic with helena AND helly in Real Time...... INSANE.
I keep thinking about how the first thing he did once he knew helly was back was pull her into his arms and apologise. he just. cradled her. he just held her near, and apologised. the best he could do was be as soft as possible towards her. as gentle. as tender as possible.
and she was so scared. suddenly here, with her face underwater for the first time. suddenly as breathless as she was when she tried to hang herself. suddenly cold. suddenly scared. and then there's irving, pulling her close into an embrace and apologising, and she's safe enough to ask what's happening and trust that she'll get an answer. and trust that she can ask, she can loosen up. she can be held. she doesn't need to fight. she can be confused. she can be cold. she can be scared.
the last thing irving did was save his friend. the last thing irving did was save his family, was bring her back, because he knew that wasn't his girl. helly was never cruel. helly would never seek to draw blood. helly would never. and he knew it. and he would do whatever it took to take down whoever kept her locked away in the darkness. even if it meant messing with the daughter of an eagan because he knows the truth now. even if it meant being locked away in the darkness. jesus christ.
he didn't go gentle into that good night.
