Goal are tricky things. Achievement is met with happiness and positive emotions. Failure often comes with an acquired sadness. But what about long term goals? The goals that you’re working toward but haven't gotten yet. The goals that are a little bigger than you thought. The goals that people say you cant get. The goals with hundreds of steps and achievements along the way.
Those goals are the best and the worst. Every step you take in the right direction, or the moments when you’re so close to things working out are the mot amazing points. Moments where you’re defying the odds and proving the whole world wrong.
But then there are the time when something happens. Where you have your plan worked out and then everything you're working towards changes and resets.
For example, if there was a kid. A young dreamer, who wanted to open up a lemonade business. And that kid was working toward their goal. They start with a plan. And a backup plan. And probably just a few more backup plans, just in case. They start of small and shaky. They don’t have much. Maybe support form their friends and family. Maybe not. Maybe a bit of money saved up. Maybe not. Then they start. They work and work. And then they start getting it. That goal. Their dream. They start believing. Not like they did before. Not believing in their dream. Believing in themselves. Believing that they don’t dream too big or too small but they dream just the right amount.
And suddenly progress. This kid achieves. Maybe finding a secret ingredient. Maybe getting enough money to start a small lemon orchard. Something big. This kid is filled with positive emotions and new determination. They’re doing it. The plan is working. They haven't told everyone yet, but if they knew they’d be impressed.
But then they lose it. Their victory is over shadowed by defeat. Maybe their lemon trees are stolen or there’s unexpectedly bad weather. Maybe their secret recipe is forgotten or stolen. It doesn't have to be lemonade related. Maybe the one person who supported them most got sick. Maybe that person had a bad day and needed to help themselves for a moment more than they could help this kid. Rock bottom breaks away to reveal a lower point. The point reached by thinking for a second you could have something.
But this isn’t the end of a goal. Sometimes a goal dies. Sometimes you have to know when to let go. Sometimes it comes back. Maybe you just have to start again or start from a different point in a different direction. Maybe this kid isn't going to create a new delicious lemonade recipe. But maybe they can get a degree in business or cooking and still be able to make lemonade. Maybe their goal needs a few changes. Maybe lemonade isn't going work out by itself. Maybe they have to wait. Live their life and then retire to making lemonade.
Either way. A goal doesn’t have to die. Sometimes its a good goal and sometimes its an unrealistic goal. Making goals means that you take the good with the bad. You don’t always have to put in everything you have to one goal. There are other things out there. Maybe some goals need breaks. Goals are unique. That’s the moral of this. There isn’t one type of goal nor is there one way to achieve or approach a goal. Work it out. Make unrealistic goals. Make small goals. Make more goals than you’ll ever hope to achieve. But remember that every goal changes you and makes you better. Maybe this kid didn't make lemonade but maybe they learned that they love something more than lemonade.
