This is so intense like⌠if you miss your mark you get beheaded
Be careful how comfortable you get with jokes that cut yourself down and emphasize the false concept that thereâs no hope for your future and life is pointless. I get that talking about struggles is important and helps in not feeling alone. There has to be a line though, between âhey hereâs something thatâs rough so Iâm gonna laugh about itâ and cheering each other on as you hammer unhealthy concepts deeper into your mind. You are not worthless. You are not ugly. You are not trash. Good is absolutely possible in your future. Donât forget that words have power. Be careful how much poison you throw in your own well.
She seriously thought it was a joke until he and her people convinced her itâs for real.

Iâm getting fed up with this whole âfeminism as an identityâ thing. Time for âfeminism as an action.â
So instead of asking âcan a feminist do x?â ask âis doing x a feminist action!â
Can a feminist take her husbandâs last name? Mu. Null. Question un-valid, please un-ask question.
Is taking your husbandâs last name a feminist action? No it isnât. It doesnât challenge the patriarchy in anyway, it is the status quo thing to do, it is what is expected of women, and it carries a lot of historical baggage about ownership and shit like that.
But thatâs okay, your life choices donât have to be 100% dictated by your politics unless you want them to. And itâs okay to really want to take his name while recognizing that you also want to do the feminist thing and keep your own, and itâs okay to feel conflicted and have a hard time making the choice. But no more of this enabling âas long as I made the choice myself it is a feminist choiceâ -bullshit. Own your choices, even the ones that arenât informed by your feminist politics. You are still a human being and people do shit that contradicts their politics and even interests all the time. Just stop pretending that everything you do is feminist because you are a feminist, thatâs not how it works.

Commercial DNA tests that claim to tell people whether they are related to Richard III or descended from the Vikings are no more than "genetic astrology", scientists have warned.
Customers are being charged up to ÂŁ300 to learn whether they have links to famous people or societies despite the fact many of the tests are not backed up by scientific evidence, experts said.
The amount of DNA any individual inherits from relatives just a few steps up their family tree is negligible compared with the vast amount we all share from common ancestors. It means any ancestral âhistoryâ identified by a simple genetic test is just one of dozens of possible interpretations, and to try to trace our lineage directly through our genes is âabsurdâ, they claimed.
Private genetic tests have become big business in recent years, with many companies offering tests which claim to identify whether people are related to famous figures such as Napoleon or Cleopatra, or have DNA from specific racial groups. Last year the website ancestry.com was valued at $1.6 billion (£1 billion) and at least 40 companies offer genetic ancestry tests around the world for prices between £30 and £300.
At the recent Who Do You Think You Are? Live roadshow in London, customers were offered a range of DNA tests claiming to determine whether they were related to Richard III or descended from Roman soldiers.
A warning about the accuracy of the tests was made by the Sense About Science campaign group, which said âsuch histories are either so general as to be personally meaningless or they are just speculation from thin evidence.â The warning was backed by a number of leading genetics experts. Steve Jones, Emeritus Professor of Human Genetics at UCL said: âOn a long trudge through history â two parents, four great-grandparents, and so on â very soon everyone runs out of ancestors and has to share them. "As a result, almost every Briton is a descendant of Viking hordes, Roman legions, African migrants, Indian Brahmins, or anyone else they fancy.âÂ
His colleague Prof Mark Thomas said: âThese claims are usually planted by the companies that provide these so-called tests and are not backed up by published scientific research. This is business, and the business is genetic astrology.â Tracey Brown, Director of Sense About Science added: âGenetics researchers are telling us that you are better off digging around in your loft than doing a DNA ancestry test if you want to find out about your family tree.â

today is Nov. 15. the FCC, under chairman Ajit Pai, will not listen to the public despite millions of comments in support of net neutrality. They are going to try their hardest to kill net neutrality, which in turn will kill the internet, which in turn will help eradicate democracy. it wonât just affect Americans, it has the potential to affect the entire internet, something we ALL use daily. you can bet your ass other countries will see america doing this, and use it as an excuse to do it in their own countries.
this is what buying a plan without net neutrality looks like there:
you have to pay MORE for features youâre already guaranteed to have under net neutrality. and in america, you already know how expensive everything is.
democrats AND republicans both want net neutrality. advocacy groups in touch with congress have said that if your members of congress receive calls from you, they are more encouraged and more likely to take action to stop Paiâs plan to gut net neutrality. after Nov. 22, it will be MUCH HARDER to convince your member of congress.
please, call them. call them daily.

The long read: The oh-so-Instagrammable food movement has been thoroughly debunked â but it shows no signs of going away. The real question is why we were so desperate to believe it
