i do not have anything new for mass effect, i am currently working on a forced marriage/marriage of convenience transformers fic (thats megatron/OC) so heres a little blurb from ch2

"Did you miss me, my dear commander?" Megatron calls out, arms spreading a bit as even though he can't see Sunglider, he knows they're watching. "At this range I won't," they mutter, still tracking him through their scope. For a moment, Sunglider does entertain the simulation that's about putting an energy bolt through his helm. He's a perfect target like this. Megatron's allowing himself to be one because he's rightfully assuming that Sunglider isn't going to pull the trigger. Damn it. Using their sniper rifle, they push themselves up—practically every bolt and strut protests the movement after being so still—and starts climbing down from their perch along the barricade. "Missing you would assume I give you processor space!" they call back. He simply laughs. As Sunglider starts to unlock the gate, they reassure the lieutenant stationed here that they are taking Megatron away and simultaneously comm Buzzwhip to prepare the base for Megatron's arrival. The gate slides open, revealing Megatron front and center in all his glory— one servo on the wall, the other on his hip, and his signature smirk on display. Sunglider then realizes what's different about him. The black paint for his vambraces and leg armor is glossy, the gray for the rest of his frame is at a perfect matte finish, red vents just as vibrant as his matching bio-lights. There is no smudge nor scratch nor dent on him. It's the best they've ever seen him. The fucker took the time to detail himself before arriving. It's as stupid as it is pointless. Now that Sunglider has seen both options, Megatron looking a little rough fits him much better than this. Sunglider should have just shot him.

I've been steadily working on this transformers fic where Megatron and my (previously mentioned) OC Sunglider (an autobot) enter into an arranged marriage in order to help end the war between 'cons and 'bots. I really like the flow of this here, the give and take between the two as Sunglider starts edging towards something that isn't antagonistic with Megatron

"Everything I so desire?" They quote, turning their helm just a little, not enough to actually see Megatron over their shoulder. There's heat at their back again. "I am courting you." He says it like it's obvious. Sunglider finally turns around, processing just how close he's gotten. "You already have an alliance, Megatron." "I have a ceasefire." He steps closer. "And I have a conjunx contract. The alliance is sealed with the bond. Not a moment before." "I gave you my word; I'm not backing out. You've said it yourself. I'm honorable." Funny that he notices that and others don't. Well, he did see it personally during the mining incident. Sunglider probably wouldn't be in this position if they were a little less honorable. "Are you saying you do not wish to be courted?" Sunglider ignores that. "This your best attempt at courting?" His angles harden— he goes from teasing and charming to lethal within a single klik. "Given that I am currently giving you a planet, I would say yes," he snipes back which is fair. Sunglider makes to put some distance between them and all they end up doing is hitting the table. They hop onto it like that was the plan all along. "You're also being very aggravating." Megatron finally crosses that line—servos clamping down either side of them, caging them in. He takes up their entire visual feed with his broad chest and shoulders, with his thick pauldrons. Their combat suite immediately spits out several action prompts for an escape. Sunglider does not confirm any of them. Sunglider doesn't move; doesn't flinch or cower or cede any ground. "Aggravation can be invigorating, can it not?" "I invigorate you?" "You do many things to me."

What's something you're looking forward to creating or finishing soon?

god help me this arranged arranged marriage fic. 15k in, two rewrites, and i wanna re-do the 3k I just wrote bc i dont feel it fits the characters idk SOMETHING EITHER TRANSFORMERS OR MASS EFFECT. Outside of writing, im working my way through The Planet Crafter where you're terraforming an alien world. It's very addicting

What is a collab project that you would want to do?

One day I would like to participate in a big bang. When my procrastination gets better

KAL'REEGAR the obvious answer of course. But also I'm gonna push my Edi in board shorts, flip flops, and an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt agenda. If youre gonna have her romance Joker let her wear his hat backwards at the party you cowards

What's a fun or silly tradition you have with your OCs?

I put them through the horrors. Seriously though, if I'm having the characters play a card game that isn't poker, its gonna be the game that multiple generations of my family have played together

What is something you would want your followers to know about you?

My friends refer to me as a mass effect encyclopedia. I know a fuck ton of mass effect lore and I have a fuck ton of saves. if anyone wants references, screenshots, dialogue just lemme know and ill do my best to provide what you need. And I love answering questions about the games and also about Jenn Shepard. I get fulfillment from it lol

There are a lot of moments before and after they get Bakara that are very touching. First, Mordin thinking they should get her a blanket, something soft. And all the while she's sitting in the medbay like this, breaking my heart:

Listening to her talk about her initiation as a shaman, her experience as Maelon's test subject, everyone else around her dying... It's a lot.

And I go to see Garrus right after, and he's saying exactly what I'm thinking, that she has endured so much and she must be under a lot of pressure if she's her people's last hope.

I find it important HE is saying this considering this dialogue in the Citadel's FInancial District in ME1 in front of the krogan statue:

GARRUS: At the time this statue was built, the entire galaxy respected the krogan. Now they’re simply hated and feared. WREX: You won’t have to put up with us for much longer, turian. My people will die out soon enough, thanks to you.  GARRUS: Some would argue you brought this on yourself. It was the krogan who started the war. WREX: And the turians made sure to finish it.

So "I can hope WE can MEASURE UP" really hits and shows character growth to me. He's no longer the Garrus who said rash things in ME1 that could hurt his teammates.

And I always pick Liara and Garrus to go with Wrex and Shepard on Tuchanka because family reunion!!!! Wrex tells Liara he wouldn't want anyone else but her for the ride. For Garrus, he's very much "Oh and I suppose you can be there too."

But the entire time his face is like this:

He's happy. He knows he is valued, cared for, loved by the people who are going with him to Sur'Kesh to get Bakara. And that's worth everything to me really!

And the mutual respect between those characters allows them to TEASE each other about what was such a sore topic:

WREX: Now we can get back to doing what krogan do best--saving everyone else from giant monsters. GARRUS: Never going to let us forget about the Rachni Wars, are you? WREX: Last time I was at the Citadel, I didn't see a turian statue in your honor. GARRUS: Just wait till this war is over.

I have STRONG feelings about Urdnot Wrex and his unlikely band of allies aboard the Normandy, but his friendship with Garrus makes me smile every time.

Wrex is OLD. He’s seen some shit, done some stuff, and then done it again in a different font. One thing he has though, and with good reason, is the staid opinion that Turians and the genophage walk hand in hand. Turians gave the order to sterilize the Krogan, Turians pushed the war to the brink, and Turians are lording it over them event still.

Which begs the question: is Garrus the first Turian Wrex had ever known to change their tune? And if so…I really love that. Hate it for the general attitude of Palaven, but.

Love that for them.

Last Line

The gauntlet was thrown by @sockodot and I am up to the challenge. I think.

He had once, in an emergency with 500 civilians on the line on a colony that was more bait that biodome, gone too far into a reactor without all of the protections it required. Even through his hard suit the radiation had made him stomach churn, the bitter taste of metal in his mouth as protons gleefully made mincemeat of his DNA. It had taken five minutes to bring the melting reactor into something like order, and he’s had burns and migraines and terrible rolling nausea for six days until he’d made it back to Arcturus and a radiation treatment bay.

As the beacon lanced through him, something blooming in his chest and his mind like that same burning wave, Isaiah Shepard knew he was in trouble.

"Grace Ryland is Rocky's dog" is such a funny fucking dynamic when you think about it

Eridians are further behind than humans technologically right? They dont have computers, relativity, quantum mechanics, etc. In fact, Eridians probably dont even know about the Big Bang because their atmosphere would filter out most of the cosmic microwave background radiation we use to detect it. On a human timeline, theyre anywhere between like early-mid 20th century. Rocky's basically a cosmonaut.

So the human civilization is pretty advanced from Rocky's perspective. Rationally he understands this. On a conceptual level he knows this to be true.

But at the same time... imagine youre one of the first ever cosmonauts to make it into space. Then you meet a 10 year old alien dog who cant do 2+2 without pulling out its calculator. It forgets everything constantly and has to keep notes everywhere, like it basically lives in Memento (2000). Also if it doesnt nap constantly it gets even stupider. And you somehow has to reconcile this with the fact that this dog has a better understanding of physics than your entire civilization does. Like the dog knows how the universe started.
