i. hi, i’m ventium! 29yo, she/her, french native living in the uk. relatively new to all things bsd despite a superpower dedicated to powering through wiki pages and having bingewatched the show - i'll probably get some things wrong, hopefully get a couple of things right along the way.

ii. mutuals only blog, minors please don’t interact. english is not my first language, and i like to think i’m a chill writing partner. again, we’re here to have fun, not put pressure on ourselves. also worth noting that this will be a slow blog: expect a few days at least between replies, as i have a phd to finish and my main writing priority is my genshin impact blog.

iii. racists, lgbt+phobists, ableists, proshippers etc etc don’t interact.

iv. blog is multiship and may practice mains and exclusive based on writing partners’ rules and preferences. i have no strong feelings on the matter yet, but this may be subject to change. shipping is great and i love it, but i will also keep it to chemistry-only. naturally, odasaku is an adult, and will not be shipped with minors.

v. heavy topics and nsfw to be expected due to the nature of the lore and characters. i will tag everything i can think of accordingly, using the tag format trigger name tw. i have no particular triggers myself, but have made the decision that i would not have sexual assault or abuse of any kind on this blog - i don’t see the point, and it’s a triggering matter for many people, therefore, it won’t be present here.

vi. if we are mutuals, i definitely want to write with you. don’t be shy! memes never expire and can be sent at any point in time, my dms are always open, and discord is available on request for mutuals.

viii. here is a quick breakdown of the verses i am open to writing:

VERSE / ONE MAN ARMY (canon compliant) - oda sakunosuke is a young hitman, renowned for his talents with guns and his ruthlessness. he briefly winds up in prison after killing a man who tried to frame him for a murder he did not commit, helps fukuzawa yukichi with an investigation, and eventually breaks out of jail. he puts an end to his hitman career after a fateful encounter with natsume souseki. age app. 14-16.

VERSE / POSTMAN (canon compliant) - oda sakunosuke works as a postman of a very particular kind, while learning the craft of fiction writing. he delivers particularly dangerous packages by day and writes by night. one day discovers a very strange dying cat on his doorstep. shenanigans ensue. quite his job to join port mafia. age app. 16-20.

VERSE / DARK ERA (canon compliant) - oda sakunosuke works as a lowly member of port mafia, doing all the odd jobs nobody else really wants to do, having vowed to never take another life despite his evident proficiency with firearms. regularly meets up with his two best friends at the lupin's. adopts five orphans. gets betrayed. attracts the attention of the wrong man. loses his orphans. kills again. is killed in return. this verse stops with odasaku's canon death at gide's hands. age app. 20-23.

VERSE / NO REST FOR THE WICKED (canon divergent) - oda sakunosuke miraculously survives his duel with gide. devastated and ruined by the children's deaths and having disavowed his promise to never kill again, sinks into a deep and resentful depression. resumes his work at port mafia once his injuries heal. eventually deserts port mafia. alas, one does not simply walk out of port mafia. age app. 23-27 (present day).

VERSE / BEAST (canon complivergent??) - oda sakunosuke is a member of the armed detectives agency. he is unaware that he lives in an alternate reality maintained by his best friend, the only one in which he actually gets to live. age 27 (present day, adapted from the beast spin off).

what is your character arc ?

it's hard to imagine yourself when you were young. maybe you were meant to be a hero; maybe you could have been, in another world, but this world only made you sad. there seemed to be too many problems to fix and too much cruelty and too many hard lines that you did not know how to soften. the world turns and it is bloody and hard and you sit on your bed, thinking about the blood and the hardness and all you failed to do. i know it feels like you could sleep until the end of time, but i hope you don't. i hope you lift yourself out of bed one day, not to save the world, but to peel an orange and to walk in a forest; to find all the softness you could not create.

" ... protecting you?" There is a beat before Oda repeats what he just heard; an odd second suspended in time, like a glitch in a well-oiled programme, like the pause the reader takes when noticing the typo in the middle of a sentence in the book he reads. The man in black is like a typo. No matter how well Oda thinks he knows the story and masters the narrative, how well he thinks he understands the protagonists and the secondary characters, the man in black feels like... an anomaly. Something that shouldn't be there.

Something amiss and terribly wrong and terribly important at the same time.

It's a nagging feeling at the back of his mind, scratching inside his skull like the claws of a furious and desperate black cat begging to be let out of a trap of sorts, and he cannot shake it off. His gun weighs too heavy in his hand, as though it isn't meant to be there. Oh, it would be easy to chalk it up to his every instinct screaming against the now too thin line between his vow and the fact that he has his finger on a trigger, but...

... that's not quite what his instincts are screaming at him. In fact, he has no idea what the hell they're screaming at him, but amidst all the maddening noise, he can make out this one, incomprehensible, absurd truth: to kill him would shatter something so deep within, he may never live to see the world in the same colours again.

The man in black walks past him, and Oda is no closer to figuring out the hidden meaning behind his words, or behind the alertness of his senses. And suddenly, an unshakable conviction settles in Oda's chest: if Dazai Osamu leaves now... he will never see him again.

"Hey." Oda calls out, and realises his voice has barely left his throat. Don't leave, is what he means to say. I still have questions for you, is what he would like to add. Why does it feel like there is a hole in his chest as he watches him leave?

"Wait!" Oda reaches out, gun abandoned on the bar counter, his hand reaching for the man in black's back.

His fingers miss his coat by an inch.

And close on nothing.

Nothing but the sight of Dazai Osamu walking out and away, without as much as a glance back of those deep, dark, dead eyes.

at any given point in time, you can be sure that odasaku has an uninterrupted, very introspective inner monologue going on that only get interrupted when he sleeps or is in the middle of a battle.

at any given point in time, you can also be sure that he will only share the least relevant part of it in conversation, and not even because he's trying to be secretive.

"Ah." As is customary with Oda Sakunosuke, reactions to the mundane always seem to come in two different beats. First comes the moment of realisation - ah, something is happening, ah, he notices the thing that is happening. Then, the thing that is happening is processed - and then, acted upon. Lesser people would call him slow, maybe. He wouldn't blame them. Kinder people (more observant people) would call him attentive.

If you ask him, the little things of the mundane are always worth slowing down for (if you actually did ask him, he would probably offer a shrug, and offer an unhelpful comment born from the recesses of the mind of a daydreamer - it's just how it is).

Ah, he says, processing Ango's reprimand (hm - it is sakura season - a stray petal must have stuck to his hair after he visited the kids ad took them to see the cherry trees earlier that day); finally, compliant, Oda bends his (too high) silhouette, granting his friend better access to whatever rebellious strands of auburn had apparently decided to personally offend him. Ango always paid attention to the smallest details, even outside of work, even in their friendship - meticulous, nitpicky. One of them had to be, he supposes. For balance.

... still, he looks at Ango, behind those severe glasses of his, and wonders how the inherent chaos of the mundane (of a stray petal of cherry blossom) does not drive him nuts.

"Thanks." He mutters, once Ango frees him; hands rising to ruffle through his own hair and restore its original unkempt allure. "It's the season again, isn't it. Time really does fly."
