request: hongjoong and hozier. it could be a twist on the theme of “in a week”, not about actually decaying, but about him suddenly telling you that he would like to be buried with you. meaning that he is imagining to spend the rest of his life with you, and stay with you even in death. it sounds a bit morbid, but it’s supposed to be sweet :) like you’re in bed and he’s thinking, and your doing something or half asleep and he just kinda tells you (requested by @strawberryya)

it was a cold summer night, the rain was pouring outside your window, smattering against the glass, and you were laying so impossibly close to hongjoong. he had his arms around you, drawing small patterns on your back, while you laid under the covers. despite his many protests, your cold hands were under his shirt, warming up against his bare back. by now he had gotten used to it and had run out of complaints. your head was against his chest, listening to his calming heartbeat.
"i could stay like this with you for hours... or years even.", he admitted softly, breaking the long-lasting silence, "we could just... melt into the mattress."
the idea of melting into the mattress sounded extremely appealing. despite the fluffy sheet wrapped around the two of you and the comfortable pillows under your heads, you found yourself needing to be even more wrapped up in the cloud-like feeling. you looked up at hongjoong, at his lips - whenever you kissed him it felt like you were floating on a cloud. of course, you would never tell him that because it would most definitely go to his head.
"that sounds nice.", you agreed with a small nod, "i don't feel like moving anyway, so."
there was more silence. you reflected on what he had said. staying with him for years. maybe that's not what he meant. maybe he was just very comfortable in this bed, but to you, it almost sounded like a promise.
"can i say something that's going to sound a bit morbid?", he asked with a shy giggle.
"sure, go ahead.", you answered, because you really didn't mind.
"i wouldn't mind dying with you.", he admitted quietly, "if one day we just go out in a field and lay there. letting the earth swallow us whole, giving a new home for flowers to grow."
his voice was so quiet that you probably wouldn't have heard it if you had stood just a few feet away. it was as if he maybe didn't want you to hear him at all. you stayed silent, and you could hear his heartbeat quicken. his hands grew more anxious, drawing faster patterns on your back. he regretted what he had said, even if he only spoke from the heart.
"of course, i don't want you to die- i don't want to die either- i just-"
you stopped him by putting your index finger on his lips. when he had stopped talking, you replaced his finger with your lips as you gave him a soft kiss. he melted into your touch, calming down from the small nervous breakdown you had given him before.
"i get it.", you muttered, "what kind of field are you thinking?"
he looked down at you with big eyes, before smiling wide. you had startled him for a moment because maybe he had gone too far. however, there was no judgment in your eyes when you looked at him. he should've known that something like that couldn't scare you away. not by now. not after so many years together.
"one filled with lots of tall grass and flowers... maybe some trees in the distance.", he paused and then added, "i bet you'd grow into the prettiest flowers."
"that's the weirdest compliment i've ever gotten.", you chuckled, "thank you."
hongjoong nuzzled his nose against yours before hiding his face in the crook of your neck. your scent engulfed him, and it made him feel dizzy with happiness.
"so do we go there and then die, or do we just like... appear there.", you asked, half sarcastically.
"we go there... you know when cats die, they go someplace they feel safe. like that.", he muttered, "and then we just lay down."
"if the bugs don't eat us, then the foxes definitely will.", you said with a small chuckle, poking fun at him.
"wow, you're so romantic.", he said ironically as he laid back against the pillows to look at you.
"i know, right?", you smiled.
he pulled you in closer and turned to lay on his back, pulling you on top of him. your hands were perched on his chest, helping you to stay up. hongjoong's hand snuck around your waist, his finger playing with the hem of your shirt before going under the material. you cringed at the feeling of his cold hands on your back, but didn't say anything - you assumed it was payback after you had done the same thing. his big grin affirmed your suspicions. you leaned down, connecting your lips with his in a gentle kiss. when you broke away from him, you put your head back on his chest.
"what if you die before me?", you muttered quietly, a hint of worry laced in your tone.
it was a very real concern, not just created for this particular scenario. the thought of him leaving, by death or by just walking away from you, scared you so much you couldn't breathe.
"i wouldn't leave you like that", he said, very much still lost in his imaginary world, "and you'd have no way of knowing if i did either way."
"not if you hold me like this.", you spoke softly, "i can hear your heartbeat."
"... then my heart will beat until you die.", he said, "i'd hold out for you."
you looked back up at him, wanting to break the tension. so you smiled. there was much to smile about right now. the fact that hongjoong wanted to stay with you for as long as he possibly could be, was one reason to smile.
"thanks.", you said.
"no problem, my pretty flower.", he grinned.
a groan escaped your lips at the nickname, and you dramatically fell down beside him. hongjoong only laughed at your reaction, very well knowing how much you disliked when he came up with new pet names. he didn't care, he would continue doing it for as long as he could - loving the way you would respond to them.
"you're despicable.", you sighed.
"and you love it.", he responded.
you looked at him. even if you were annoyed at him, you couldn't help but so badly want to close the gap that had been created between you when you rolled off him. you shuffled closer to him, now in the same position that you had been in before.
"i do", you sighed, "i love you."
"i love you too.", he whispered and placed a kiss on top of your head.
