I love heated rivalry. I love Shane. I love Ilya. I love the side characters. I love Hudson. I love Connor. I love hudcon. I love Jacob. I love that whole cast and how much they seem to truly love each other and are so proud of their show. I love that it’s an unashamed, pure sunshine celebration of love. I love that it was made for 45 Canadian dollars and it sometimes it shows. I love that mainly though, it doesn’t show, because everyone brought their A++++ game. I love that people love it. I love that they stay up all night to watch pirated live streams of award shows that they’d previously never heard of. I love that they get frothy in anticipation of the met gala outfits. I love that they crash out over the magazine drops and the original scripts and the $400 maple leaf fleeces. I love the head canons. I love the fan fics. I love that they created Big Hud and Connie from Admin, and vampire Cliff Marleau and handwashing the Rick Owens. I love the rpf (sorry Hudson). I love that social media platforms come close to tapping out every time there’s new photos. I love that people watch the press tour videos with the same reverence as episodes of the show. I love that the groomers and the stylists are on first name terms and almost like family. I love the lore (“can you believe they filmed Vegas on the first day!”) I love the anticipation and the theories for season 2.
There are people who sneer at fandom. Or think it’s OK for a sports team but not for anything else. Because that’s the difference between more female fandom and more male fandom? Maybe. Who cares. They can keep their sports. I love heated rivalry.
