takes place in original sin. yes I'm still clinging onto young Joe x young dexter shaddap
"Dexter," Harry greeted with a soft smile as his son walked through the front door, "Is your friend going to be staying over?"
Dexter paused in his tracks, not closing the front door when he had walked through earlier. "Friend ?" he asked, confusedly.
"Yeah," Harry's eyebrows furrowed, ".. You know. Your best friend."
A beat of silence passed. Harry stared as his son became even more confused as time passed by them. ".. Joe?" he eventually added on.
Oh, Dexter thought. He quickly nodded his head, "Yeah, yeah, he's staying over.. He'll come in a bit."
The two men stared at each other in awkward silence before the younger nodded his head once more, dismissing himself and walking to his room. Like he said, Joe eventually entered the home with a few books piled in his arms.
"Mr. Morgan," he said in a casual tone, nodding his head out of respect before quickly walking to Dexter's room.
Harry stayed silent for a moment, eventually letting out a small 'huh' as his brain processed the events that took place and passed a bit too quickly.
"The fuck was that all about?" Debra eventually asked, as she stood in the doorway leading out to their backyard, "Dexter was acting like he didn't know who his best friend was. Not like he has any other friends too."
He could tell his daughter was suspicious and frankly, he was too. He couldn't just pry into his beloved son's private life. Harry let out a soft sigh, "It's been a long day at the precinct, Deb, maybe he's a bit mentally tired."
"What? Tired of staring at bodies all day? Thinking of death? You know he likes that stuff," Debra scoffed, "There's something more than that and you know it."
"Deb, we don't stick our noses in places it doesn't belong, ok? Just let your brother do his thing. Besides.." Harry's head turned to face the hallway, staring at the partially closed door that lead to Dexter's room, "He's.. happy like that."
