Halloween: Swati's Playground

Why is Halloween celebrated when sun transits swati? A quick exploration on rahu and venus' influence on swati nakshatra.

Halloween being celebrated when the sun is in swati is so interesting considering how this holiday is celebrated in present times.

Sun is debilitated in libra with the deepest debilitation being at 10 degrees in swati. Sun = ego, soul, self identity and purpose. This is why it is an excellent time to dress up in costume and mimic the appearance of someone else because the self (sun) is at its weakest point (libra = sun's debilitation). Rahu's influence on swati also adds to the ability to mimic and create illusions (rahu = illusions, dark smoke, deception).

Libra is lorded by venus. Venus = the arts, pleasures and indulgences. On Halloween many people indulge in sweets, candies, parties, drinking, going to the club and getting together with friends to have fun. The act of applying makeup, setting hair, putting together a costume is a form of artistry.

Swati having both rahu and venus influence points to how costumes are both a form of art (venus) and a tool to illude (rahu) others.

Swati is a chara nakshatra meaning it has a movable quality. This also means that it is very flexible and has the ability to adapt or morph easily (symbol of swati = a plant shoot 🌱; lord of swati = Lord Vayu aka the wind god). Costumes require one to shape shift and adapt one's appearance.

The swift moving quality of this nakshatra also means that one can morph back into the self just as easily as they put on the costume. This relates to how the costume comes off after Halloween night and reveals one's true identity.
