Yeah, I can't blame Eclipse at all for refusing to forgive Ruin in this episode. Dude is doing the same thing he always has and making himself out to be some tragic martyr of suffering for the greater good, especially by saying he was "selfish for once." He really milked that act for all he could after he wiped out the 5,000+ dimensions and seeing it rear it's ugly head now of all times has convinced me that Eclipse and Roxanne are 100% right to say he's not truly sorry for what he did.
He literally says "I don't know," when they ask if he'd change his actions if that situation ever happened again, which is telling. He didn't even try to lie and say yes, it's clear that he would forsake his friends on a whim to get a chance at having his Monty back.
I understand that he loves his Monty and wanted a happily ever after, I don't hate him for that, but treating the friends who cared about him as that expendable, to the point that their suffering and deaths are secondary to his happily ever after, is screwed up.
It really reminds me of what I wrote in TABB, which was dialogue between Strife/the lead AI and Nem, that being Nem apologizing for losing his temper and yelling at Strife.
And Strife tells him, "You may apologize all you like, but if you willfully neglect a solution to the problem you must keep apologizing for, then it will be clear that you only care for making yourself feel better rather than making amends with those you hurt. And in that case, you deserve no forgiveness."
There's of course context to both situations that differs but the ultimate point is that Ruin has made it clear that he only cares about getting their forgiveness so he feels good about himself. About staying in their good graces. Same with how he acted towards the Celestial family after dusting Solar and trillions of other innocent lives.
So many characters keep giving him second chances and he keeps willfully throwing them back in their faces before turning around and putting on this bullshit "woe is me" act. He is never going to truly change deep down, which Eclipse and Roxanne have realized at this point.
And the sad thing is that he'll get away with it. Either the narrative will push everyone to forgive him or he'll simply leave the Pizzaplex in the end to live with Tiger Rock, since Tiger is the only one who hasn't gotten stabbed in the back by him at the moment.
