Welcome to my indie rp blog for Colin “Snively” Kintobor, Jr., of the Sonic SatAM and Archie Sonic franchises.  I have been a Sonic SatAM fan since I was ten years old, in 1993, when the show first aired. For how old I am now, you do the math ;^}  I’ve written this character on and off for literal decades, but detached from the fandom for a long hiatus when Archie’s plotline took a turn I couldn’t vibe with. Recently nostalgia hit, and since I’ve been rping on Tumblr since 2010, I figured, why not? 

This blog is likely to be low-activity.

It is OC and crossover-friendly.

It is friendly to ALL muses of ALL Sonic universes. 

It centrally features headcanons that build on the would-be Sonic SatAM “Sea3on,” or third season, in which Snively defects to the Freedom Fighters’ side and becomes a valuable asset in their continued quest to defeat his uncle, Dr. Robotnik, and the sorcerer Ixis Naugus. 

It is canon-divergent in that I do not plan for Snively to go back to Robotnik’s side. Like, ever. LOL.  He may be a snotty little asshole, but that sort of reverse-redemption plotline is tedious. Let characters grow!

canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana

a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.

an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.

fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.

these are all different words with different meanings.

Also, for an interpretation to be valid it needs to be based on the text. It cannot just be a vibe. One can disagree on readings of the text, but if someone comes with quotes and/or historical context and you just have vibes, then sorry, your interpretation is inferior and may in fact just be a headcanon.

i think there is a difference between a knowingly flawed character and a thematically uncomfortable character and knowing the difference is half the battle

knowingly flawed character: this character has traits that the author deliberately put in to show they have nuance and aren't perfect as a person. this will put them at odds with some readers and endear them to others, depending on them as people, and that's good!

thematically uncomfortable character: oh boy the author has some Beliefs

One thing that really fascinates me about the Roboticized Mobians is the fact that, at least in the finished cartoon and comic spinoff, they're supposed to be percieved as generic labour drones; utilitarianly referred to as Worker-Bots. And yet, they all have such distinctive and unique designs which sympathetically preserve the original Mobian's identity. They aren't all indistinguishable drones, they all look unique and likely have different abilities and capabilities as a result. The real reason for this is that they were originally supposed to function like Badniks: corrupted versions of the natural inhabitants which act as obstacles for Sonic to deal with before getting to Robotnik, as the earliest concept art of them clearly shows:

Still the same Mobians, but geared in an offensive mechanized direction!

This idea was scrapped when Len Jansen decided to go for something more grounded and sympathetic to the victims, by having it so that the Mobians are merely made into simple labourers for Robotnik; acting as a metaphor for employees being exploited. The Mobians aren't even turned into robots, just brainwashed:

However, as the tone of the cartoon shifted ever darker, it was decided that physical Roboticization could be used as a horrific visual for how dehumanised the Mobians have become under Robotnik's control. The first designs were revived, but slightly altered to remove the weapons, given grim facial expressions and coloured a uniform grey.

(Uncle Chuck looks different because of censors wanting him to look more appealing so as not to scare the audience, but we'll ignore that for now.)

Now, this is all a result of assets being repurposed for something they weren't designed for, but the resulting fact that the Roboticized Mobians retain their unique physical characteristics gives off a very strange vibe. You would have thought that Robotnik would have tried to find a way to simplify and standardise them to a more pragmatic outline if they're supposed to be simple labourers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Either he hasn't got round to it, or he simply can't for some reason. It also creates the impression that they have some level of personality beyond Robotnik's control. Can they still express themselves in some way that we simply have been unable to see? What is a Worker-Bot's perspective?! Is it like the Amazing Digital Circus where the organic minds have been digitised and altered so that they can't remember the truth; yet still have the capacity to express dissatisfaction? Does Robotnik have to keep updating the programming that keeps them from remembering? Do they have desires completely unrelated to their Mobian lives?! Their designs also raise a lot of logistical questions. If the shape, size and strength of their Mobian bodies are so faithfully preserved by the Roboticizer, then they will each have different capabilities and won't all be able to do the same kind of work. And even those with similar capabilities will differ in quality. Considering how unique these 'machines' are from one another, it makes me wonder how on earth they are managed to ensure that their work is of a high standard? It seems that turning people into robots doesn't make life simpler after all. It does however, make it interesting and that's why I love thinking about these mechanized Mobians! Maybe I'm biased because of a certain preschool show about sentient machines getting into scrapes whilst trying to keep an awkward system running, but I hope you found this ramble interesting.

Snively approaches the worker with the chillingly realistic design—no streamlining, only nuts and bolts cobbled together to mock the once-organic life form, the soul, inside. He feels a sheen of sweat gathering inside his uniform, on the nape of his neck, on his forehead. Thousands of roboticized Mobians and he’s still strangely queasy, apprehensive, beneath the veneer of indifferent composure.

He leans in close, spectral blue eyes deadened. But then there’s a quick flash. A spark of life: the gloating reason why his uncle has never fully “upgraded” him.

“You don’t want to do this,” he breathes, hoarse, urgent: mostly, scared. Scared pissless.

Don’t join us. Run. Run and find the Freedom Fighters. Get the hell out, you stupid, sycophantic drone. RUN.
