THE SECRET GENIE EXCHANGE!

Before we start, we’d like to address that although Round 5 opens today, Round 4 is still ongoing.
If you are a participant of Round 4 and have not submitted your fic yet, it is your responsibility to get that in to us, following the guidelines here. You may participate in Round 5 even if you have not finished your Round 4 fic but we do expect that you complete both unless you let us know otherwise regarding your participation in either or both rounds ASAP. We’d also like to establish the fact that Round 5 will not be as lenient on deadlines as Round 4 was. Meeting deadlines for this new round is especially crucial for the exchange to work.
THE MAGICAL CARPET RIDE
Now that 2PM’s seventh birthday has passed (can you believe it?!), we are truly excited to announce our very first fic exchange!
Have you ever dreamed of a James Bond AU written for you, in which Taecyeon is clad with a Dolce tux, twirling a Beretta 418 around his fingers with a delicious smirk on his face as he takes off after the target of his mission? Have you ever dreamed of a friendship fic between Chansung and Jinwoon, where they confide in each other about their insecurities until Jinwoon transfers to a different company and Chansung has to cope with the idol life alone? What about late night guilty pleasures, one where Yoseob wants to learn more about foxy Wooyoung, tug on his jet black apple hair and go past his goldenrod pants after dancing to KARA’s Mister? Or a College AU, where Junho and Suzy are partnered friendenemies for a project in Physics but agree to cooperate only if Junho introduces Suzy to the popular theater major Lee Minho and Suzy introduces Junho to her friend’s cousin’s acquaintance, film star Scarlett Johansson? Or a fic in which Nichkhun brags to Taecyeon that he met Ki Hong Lee and Thomas Sangster at the Scorch Trials movie premiere but Taecyeon still wins anyway since he and Ki Hong are best friends? Or a crack fic counting down the last few months Minjun has left before enlistment and everyone from Jackson to Jaehyung to Jo Kwon to Min to Yubin and even the other 2PM members press Wooyoung to confess to Minjun before it’s too late?
If you’ve said yes to any of these, or if you have other fantastic wishes that have yet to come true, then this exchange is the one for you!
The magical thing about The Secret Genie Exchange is that you’re signing up by filling out a questionnaire below that tells us what you’d like to write for someone else and what your wishes are that you’d love to see fulfilled. Then we, as matchmakers, will assign you to write a fic for another writer, as well as a wonderful genie who will write you the fic of your dreams! However, there are some rules to make this magic work: all fics written must be original and they must be a completed 1,000 words minimum by the end of the deadline, pertaining to your recipient’s wishes.
In between, we will ask writers to check in with a summary. A draft is not necessary for this as we only want to know that you’ve been thinking about it. Furthermore, a livejournal account is not necessary to participate in this round.
The endgame of an exchange is that everyone who has signed up and written a fic also gets one in return, similar to a Secret Santa if you’re familiar with that. The point is, this is secret (it’s not called The Secret Genie Exchange for nothing!) and we want to make sure all writers remain anonymous up until reveals. This means no sharing nudge-nudge-wink-wink type of hints on twitter or on any other social media platforms. Think of it as a masquerade: as much as you’d like to find out who is-- or reveal yourself as-- that enchanting masked fellow writing the gift; the surprise is more worth the wait, we guarantee it.
Since Unreal 2PM is hosting the exchange, all fics must center around at least one (current or past) 2PM member. Crossovers are allowed as well-- meaning, if you wish to have a fic written about a 2PM member and someone else outside of 2PM, boy group or girl group from any entertainment label is fine; as long as the main focus is on the 2PM member himself. If boy/boy or boy/girl fics aren’t your cup of tea, it can also be a friendship, gen, or one member-centric. Requesting or writing a 2PM-member/reader fic is not allowed.
THE TIMELINE
As usual, all the following dates listed below follow Pago Pago, American Samoa Time.
Sign-ups open: September 7th (Mon)
Sign-ups close: September 20th (Sun)
Assignments sent: September 25th (Fri)
Assignments confirmation: October 3rd (Sat)
Check-in: October 25th (Sun)
Dropout deadline: November 15th (Sun)
Final story deadline: December 6th (Sun) (subject to change)

Reveals: (TBD)
Beginning today, you may sign up by following the instruction and example we’ve provided here. You do not need a Livejournal account but regardless, you must include a link for your username to be credited with, such as (and not limited to) Archive of Our Own or Asian Fanfics. You will have until Sunday, 11:59PM Pago Pago time on September 20th to make any changes to your sign-up form. After sign-ups close, you may not make any more changes.
Assignments will be sent out on Friday, September 25th via email. So yes, whatever email you put on your form is one that we will use to contact you with. Be sure to put an email that you check often. We will give you until Saturday, October 3rd to reply to us that you received your assignment and that you are content with the assignment given to you (or alternatively, you would like to request a different assignment and list the reason WHY. We don’t bite-- we will work with you in trying to find the best match so this doesn’t happen again.)
As mentioned above, we will ask writers to check in with a summary on October 25th, Sunday. We just want to know that you guys have been thinking about your assignment. If you are struggling with it, please don’t hesitate to talk to us! If, however, after discussing with us that you feel you can’t continue anymore, you have until November 15th, Sunday to make the final decision to send the email stating that you can no longer participate.
We must stress that you cannot take dropouts lightly-- once you sign up, you must keep in mind there will be someone expecting a story to be written for them. That is why there is a dropout deadline.
This deadline is ultimately for us to find a pinch hitter early on so they have enough time to write a quality fic for the recipient.
The final story of 1,000 words minimum and pertaining to the recipient’s wishes should be sent to us wholly completed on Sunday, December 6th.
We will send out an email to writers if this deadline changes, along with the detailed submission guidelines, posting and reveals dates (once these dates have been decided.) Depending on how many participants there are, we will also let you know how many fics will be posted per week. After that, it’s just enjoying, commenting, and sharing the fics until reveals!
And that should culminate the end of The Secret Genie Exchange, the last round of this year! We hope that you are excited as us in joining and that you’ll have fun writing and receiving these fics.
