hii i have… thoughts… about theo… the bird who is bald…
so i had a conversation with my friend a while ago about theo and what we thought his motives on the server were and why he would be so eager to join parrot when the latter appeared randomly in spawn. and this was before we both finished parrot pov. and i stumbled across it again. and i’m about to talk a LOT and NONE of it is gonna make sense but it connects in my head i think 😛
the thing about feeling less than human is that you’ll do anything to be perceived as one if you’re scared of what you are or what you could become. at least, to me it is. hearing that you’re an angry person, that you’re violent, anything in that realm, it’s something demoralizing to someone who just wants to be seen as a person. as real.
theo is a very future oriented person to me. he doesn’t put a lot of thought, at least not outwardly, into his past, or even parrot’s. he pries a few times, but after learning that parrot will never budge he stops asking. he focuses on what they’re doing now, and what they plan for the future. treasure hunting, fighting lettuce, becoming king, fixing spawn, so on. he doesn’t even acknowledge billy until the moment he shows up, and even then!!! billy never gets mentioned to parrot directly!!! nothing past the very basics, he’s ruthless and he’s working with cindercrest. i don’t remember if theo told parrot billy trained him but MAN.
secondly, and off in kind of a different direction. the conversation between theo and billy in the tavern building. the continuous prodding at parrot, and parrot’s relationship with theo. billy uses a lot of really specific targeted lines, and i imagine that’s because he knows how theo works. things like telling him that parrot would leave him at the first convenience, that theo is nothing more than what billy made him, that he’s nothing more than a killer. in my head it’s trying to drive a wall between parrot and theo.
finally, i think the most human things we possibly have are our ability to form deep, profound friendships and relationships, and our ability to hold onto hope.
taking this all into account, where billy tries to dehumanize theo (and presumably tried to while he trained him), theo is actively trying to humanize himself. and so why wouldn’t he attach himself to the first person he recognized, that doesn’t know who he is now? why wouldn’t he reach out and try to seek that kind of friendship, and why wouldn’t he stick close to the first person to see him as a little more than just a killer?
it’s a powerful thing to be seen, after all. it’s a powerful thing to be cared about.
which leads me to a silly little headcanon because i must put my problems onto the character at all times and theo’s going to become my newest fixation character in about five seconds. DISORGANIZED THEOBALDTHEBIRD. GIVE THAT COCKATIEL AVOIDANT FEARFUL ATTACHMENT. ATTACHMENT ISSUES BEAM.
BECAUSE OKAY. MY ANXIOUS BIRD THAT FOLLOWS PARROT EVERYWHERE. WHO WAS CHECKING IN EVERY TWO MINUTES PRACTICALLY DURING LAW BATTLE. MR I WOULD LAY MY LIFE DOWN FOR THIS BIRD. MR PLEASE DONT LEAVE ME EVER (more of a hc than actually supported by canon but shhh…)
AND THEN MY AVOIDANT NONCHALANT KING OH MY GOD HE’S SO CHALANT. EXCEPT HE NEVER SHARES ANYTHING EVER HES SO CAREFULLY DISTANT AND HE TRIES TO ACT SO COOL AND CHILL BECAUSE IN MY HEART HE DOESNT WANT PARROT SEEING HIM TOO CLEARLY IN CASE PARROT DECIDES HES TOO MUCH WORK AND PARROT LEAVES BUT HE CARES ABOUT PARROT AND PARROT CARES ABOUT HIM AND IF ANYTHING HAPPENS HE’LL EXPLODE EVERYONE
