One could never truly prepare for war, and with refusal of almost everyone Éowyn had other concerns when she went into it. But she made it through and her brothers silence, she assumed him still upset, drew her gaze. ‘’Will you speak to me?’’ there was little to none patience, she loves her brother dearly. Yet his refusal had been ever so present as everyone elses. She finally realized she needed no ones approval. It was as much her war as anyone elses. She wanted to fight, not for war itself but for what she believed in. For what they all fought for. ‘’I did what I must.’’ but pressing him to admit he was wrong was not the time. Not now. ‘’I fought well enough, as did Merry.’’ if he would not speak, she would.

his silence indeed had deeply embedded itself between them; so thick, so TANGIBLE, it could have been cut with a knife. in the back of his mind Éomer then recounted the losses he had already suffered in his young years their parents. Théodred. their beloved uncle now too; and ahead of him lies a kingdom and a crown he is UNSURE he can yet carry. and here then sits his sister, barely conscious since a few days, demanding he’d give his blessing to her RECKLESSNESS. part of him, in this very moment, is tempted to get up and leave her behind in the Houses of Healing. find a horse, leave for a day to clear his head. another part knows he cannot afford such behaviour any longer. he is supposed to be a king now. “you almost died. is there any MORE I have to say?” low rings his voice, still laced with subtle blame.

“if I were tall enough to ride my OWN horse, you mean?” stranger and stranger he is beginning to find them; the big folk, with all doors, literally, open to them. tall, strong, with proper swords hanging from their belts, whilst he has begun to learn that his dagger, SHINY as it may be, serves as nothing but a letter opener perhaps. and yet they always ask for guidance. for opinions, and help. well, some of them do. not perhaps the gloomy folk of Bree, with whom Merry has had a run-in or two in his youth, and now finds them ODD but not unfriendly. and perhaps not men such as Aragorn, who seems to know everything and more. but she does. with war looming ahead, and no sword on her belt, but family leaving for a battlefield she is not supposed to be on. much like HIM in a way, isn’t it?

and Merry hums thoughtfully; the large, hairy feet dangling in the air beside her’s so safely on the ground, while he turns a tankard in his hands. “I would fight,” then rings the HONEST reply after a moment. quiet, yet determined, as if he had given the notion too much previous thought already. “we have a duty to protect our family, don’t we? I mean, what good are we for otherwise, right?” and has that not been the reason why he had come on this QUEST in the first place? to protect Frodo?

I do not plan on helping you.” keen is the gaze from blazing blue eyes; Thorin’s face perhaps forever somewhat grim beneath the thick beard, and yet something akin to MISCHIEF perhaps flits across his ageing features. and said gaze then flits to Kíli, forever nearby for when has anyone seen the brothers parted for too long, and he hears the muffled thud as the younger of his nephews then hits the dark head on a low hanging branch with a low, almost croaked little OW. “and neither does your brother.” arms then fold before the broad chest, the look on the dwarvenking’s face almost turning a little smug. a challenge it may have been for the youngster to climb UP the tree, and a challenge his sister, no doubt, would have endorsed, but he now places yet another challenge upon Fíli.

“so? do you dare come down before supper, or would you rather have another five minutes to think on that? given that it is so peaceful up there.” dwarves on trees. the one place they do not BELONG, yet the one place, naturally, the boy would choose to be. some days Thorin indeed worries for the future of his kingdom.
