I wasn't stupid, I knew some of my scars looked too intentional to come from anything I said they were. Carissa said nothing, she had work, always work, or that stupid boyfriend, "Where's he now?!?" I asked myself, I asked her, is my nephew going to become another me? he does look like me, nothing like his parents. He takes after Carissa in personality. He's more understanding, stubborn, headstrong, cheerful... he's just like me when I was a kid. Will he steal his mom's letter opener like I did? Will he bleed? Will Cyrus fight with Carissa till he moves out with someone who takes the time to understand? Have become like my mother? Dieing and leaving my family to fall apart? Will Carissa become like father? No I can't think like that, Carissa's the only person more stubborn than me and father. Cyrus is missing an eye, he's still the most agile almost-one-year you'll ever see. Carissa doesn't think about that though, just his eye. Like when I was little. He turns 1 soon, and I died.
can we talk about how ghosts work? is it too early to ask this? does everyone know maries dead by day two? is marie still a ghost thats what we talked about in the discord but i dont have discord rn
answer privately if we shouldnt talk about that rn
but i think ghosts can become corporeal if they want, sometimes involuntarily if they feel a strong emotion, also maybe cause nightmares in a person but that takes a lot of energy so they cant do it often
I don't think everyone would know that Marie is dead right away, though once Violet? Discovers Marie's body she would probably tell someone and after that word would spread fast, so probably safe to assume almost all (if not all) the untrusters would know by the end of day 2
i also like the idea of Marie become corporeal and showing up in the edge of someone's vision, or infront of them, truly haunting the narrative, as well I do think she could also show up in dreams, and there are some untrusters that she could probably communicate with, I believe that it's implied that Lior and Riley can talk to Ghosts and I'm assuming Violet and Kismet could as well considering their connections to Kyle and the Iris
For limits probably something like if she appears often she can't stay long or if she stays long she can't do it often
+ please add your own opinions in the comments/reblogs these are just my thoughts!
The fire climbed up high as the stake lit, rising so high that they seemed to engulf the looming mountains that cut Mowe off on one side, the side that faced her back.
He rarely shed a tear, but this was an exception. He just stood, frozen, tears running down his cheeks like rivers. He fell to his knees, trying desperately to process what he was seeing. His sister, his closest friend, was now burning for no reason.
He remembered ranting to some friends one night about how she seemed to have some sort of power that let her annoy him at every opportunity possible. He didn’t mean anything by it, he was just drunk and it slipped out!
But it didn’t matter. Because of his stupidity, she was now suffering in fire.
A blood curdling and desperate scream cut through the crowd. It was her, no doubt about it. Who could blame him though? They were so close, it’s only natural for her to be horrified.
He turned away from her to see him crying harder than he was, trying to reach out to her, but she was being held back by the crowd.
He turned back to her burning body and stared for a moment longer before getting up and heading home. He needed time to compose himself so that he could comfort him when she got back.
***
A knock at the door snapped him back from his thoughts. He already knew who it was without even opening the door. Once he opened the door, he collapsed into his arms, crying harder than he’d ever seen her cry before. He tried his best to comfort him while not falling apart himself.
After a while, she calmed down. He thanked him and said she was going to stay at his place rather than his own. That was understandable.
THREE YEARS LATER
He called out to her to wake him up, only to find her bed empty. A note was left on the nightstand.
“I’m going to go out and try to find a new place to stay. I don’t think I’m ever coming back. Living here only hurts more. Thank you for everything. -L. T.”
Damnit! He understood, don’t get him wrong, but him leaving felt like losing his sister all over again.
Y'know, I had been planning to do a proper map of the town area for a while now, and just never got around to it.
The sketch is pretty spot-on, I'm mostly posting this because 1) I want an excuse to make more maps, and 2) some people might benefit from seeing more exact placements.
Can be a little cruel ruthless at times. Has less than the normal amount of guilt. Picks at her skin.
30. How paranoid is your oc? How does this affect their daily life?
She’s doing some things out of fear. They worry that someone will come after her. She definitely got more paranoid after their abrupt departure from her home town and job.
(No one’s coming after her. They don’t care enough to chase her all the way to Oakhurst)
New fic! This time some rp related stuff for Mayriott and Lior! Also on ao3 if anyone prefers reading there!
As Lior wanderes the outskirts of Oakhurst they see a figure clothed in red moving towards the town. Mayriott, he thought, the soldier from before. "Hey!" he calls out to them. By the time that Lior reached him Mayriott had picked up and packed away whatever they had been doing.
“Hello . . . Lio, yes?” Came the greeting. Their voice was steady and kind just like it had been for most of their conversations.
"Yes, sorry if I startled you. I was just making a quick trip around town to forage while we still got some daylight. You wanna come along?" Lior explains and holds up a few carrots and some garlic that they already managed to find. Mayriott looks at him for a few moments and then joins Lior’s side in one smooth motion. “I saw some at the . . . Northeastern side of the barrier. It could be well to check there.”
"Sounds good! Let’s go"
They walk in silence for a moment, but Lior feels like they should say something. They are curious about what the soldier had been doing alone in the woods, but frankly it was none of their business. So, he settled for asking: "Was it good? Whatever you were doing I mean. How was it?" Lior truly could have kicked himself. That sounded so stupid. Lior really didn’t want to sound stupid in front of May, they needed the other to trust them. If they trusted Lior he could make sure they were safe.
Mayriott nods, falling into step beside Lior.
“It- . . . It helped; that’s for sure. The forest is made primarily of Norway Spruce, y’know that? Some European Beech here and there, but, well. Back home those were awfully more common.”
Lior finds themselves relaxing at Mayriotts explanation of the flora of this strange new place. It's just nice to listen to him talk. "I didn't know that. Can't say I know too much about trees but it's interesting to learn about them for sure.", they pause for a brief moment and then add, "Honestly I'm just glad for a big forest nearby. Somewhere to let Frido graze for now. He can't eat too much grass yet y'know. He isn’t used to that, and horses tend to get ill when they eat too much too quickly so..." he trails off looking at Mayriott, a bit unsure if they lost him with their ranting about grass.
The other nods along while Lior talks. Just when Lior thinks he might be boring May, they turn to him and say: “That’s common for animals. I think the forest is a perfect place for most life, though, no matter their condition. It . . . anyways, have you heard anything odd in the town?”
Mayriotts voice changes in a way that makes Lior wince when he asks the question, but Lior does his best to hide the displeasure. They had been enjoying the casual conversation and seeing the soldier more at ease than before.
You can take the soldier out of the battlefield but there is no taking the battlefield out of the soldier, it seems.
But they answer anyway, lying wouldn't do here. He doubts he could fool the soldier anyway even if they tried. "I mean not really. I saw a few more of the other people. One’s name is Aster, she had a cat and seemed interested in books, there are also Rose and Kismet they are nice. They brought Zavier and me some left-over food they had.", they chuckle, "Good to know someone here can cook. Because I certainly cannot." Lior’s gaze shifts for a moment, becoming more serious and then softening again. "There was another fella in uniform too. Seemed nervous but not battle worn so I don't think you got anything to fear from them.", Lior takes a long look at Mayriott and adds, "And if you do, I've got your back."
Mayriott seemed to retread into themselves while Lior talked about the town’s people. He keeps his gaze carefully trained on Mays facial expression. Watching closely, searching for any sign of what he might be thinking.
“A librarian, two cooks, and another soldier.”
Mayriott seems to fidget with his coat as he summarizes what Lior just told him. He considers for a moment and then adds: “Did they mention which direction they hailed from?”
Lior wants to put May at ease with his answer, so he moves to grab a few carrots he spotted as he replies: "No he didn't mention anything. But like I said: I only saw a uniform, could be Militia, could be just stolen or borrowed to avoid trouble on the road. And if she is eager to make trouble for you, I'll be right there to help." He means that. Lior really means it and they want May to know that. Just as that realization hits them another one comes over them. He had been playing with the thought of talking to someone about it since the conversation with Nessie, since the awful vision of the coal-stained grave. Why not now? Why not Mayriott? As out of his depth the soldier seemed when facing knew people and not knowing what they wanted or on whose side they were, he couldn’t imagine the topic of graves facing him much. After all who walks onto a battlefield without thinking about their own death? Without telling a comrade or friend how you would want to be laid to rest? Mayriott seemed like the kind of person other soldiers might have confided in. He was the person Lior wanted to confide in. And he would like to be the person Mayriott could confide in. He would like to make him feel a little bit safe. He would like to hear him talk about trees more often.
Lior pauses in his movement as he crouches to dig up the carrots. He stares at his hands and the dirt on them. Then he draws a deep breath and speaks quietly: "Can I ask you a favor? It might sound strange, but I figured you might be the best to talk to about this."
May gives him a hum in response and moves to stand at his side: “Of course. What’s the favor?”
Lior looks at his hands for a bit longer while trying to get their thoughts in order and then begins to speak: "I think I might stay here for a bit, at least until after winter. Traveling in the snow isn't any fun and I promised Penny, I would teach her a thing or two about mining.", they look up at Mayriott for a moment and study their face. Was it too late to back out now? Maybe they were assuming too much? Maybe this would upset them more than he thought? But he can’t help himself, he needs to get it out, before he can think better of it, he continues, "Point being I'm gonna stick around for a bit and I figured you might too. So, the thing is..." Was he though? Mayriott hadn’t made any indication of that, had he? It was probably wishful thinking but there was no use in stalling any longer on what he wanted to ask, so they start up again: "First off I don't want to worry you, but I want someone to know that... See if I happen to die here I don't wanna be buried. Don't care what else, just don't wanna end up in a grave." The last two sentences came out in one hurried breath. Then Lior just sits there waiting to learn that this had been some terrible mistake.
And then May is at their side again and sits down and speaks: “You won’t die, El- Lio. I promise you . . . you won’t die. But, if you do, you won’t be buried. You’ll belong to nature, or some other force beyond us. It’s a better ending. A more beloved one.” It’s a comfort to hear. Lior can’t help but believe May even though he knows it’s a lie. Well not really a lie May must believe it. Still a very sweet one. One they would like to make themselves believe.
For a moment he imagines himself lying in the forest, on a bed of moss and grass and reeds that Mayriott might make for him. He imagines the forest creatures around his lifeless body. It’s a peaceful image. The sun shining above them and a few birds for company. Yes, that was a prospect they could live with.
A smile of relief crosses their face. "Thank you, really.", they pause and turn to look at Mayriott, "I didn't mean to worry you, really didn't, but I figured with you being a soldier and all, it might not be the first time you had a talk like this with someone. Besides I can't really ask Zavier. Don't wanna scare xem. Xe is already plenty scared." Lior pushes themselves up from the ground as he goes to offer his companion a hand to help them up, Lior registers that one of his hands is practically covered in dirt. He grins shakes his head and resolves to offer the less dirty of the two.
May nods, humming in silent acknowledgment. He takes their hand, standing after a slight wobble.
“I understand. Really, you don’t need to worry about it. I- I’m used to it. You’re right. I’ve had this talk many a time before.”
He shifts a bit before finally starting to walk again.
Liar. Liar. Liar. Liar. Liar. Isn’t that right? How long do you think you’ve been lying? A year? Two? Your whole life? Only now you finally have a reason to lie. Isn’t that what you wanted?
Straight up embarissing that I didn't realise this sooner about Lior considering he is my charackter. But they aren't chill about stuff or confident in what they are saying they are just too done with life to give a fuck about the consequences!
Hes kinda like that one person who was scared of flying and also suicidal. Like yes they might be suicidal but at least they can fly on a plane now bc they aren't scared of dying anymore.
New Lior thing! Thanks to Volcano for beta reading.
They exchanged their “good nights” with Zavier and Rose; took a last look at Frido and Kismet to make sure they were okay and then lay down to sleep.
He listened to their quiet conversation and let himself drift off to a state somewhere between sleep and the waking world. Their thoughts began to wander then. To their roommate, to the other townsfolk, to Mayriott and the promise they had made to him. Was May cold now? Lior wondered. Lighting a fire next to a rather flammable tent would be out of the question, but maybe May would think to bring some still-glowing coals inside with them. That way he would at least be warm while drifting off to sleep.
But they really shouldn’t worry too much, not only because Mayriott had told him that, but also because the soldier had a good head on their shoulders and would have the sense to come inside to him if it got too cold.
All in all, it had been a good day, really. He didn’t exactly enjoy the talk with Nessie and wasn’t all that eager to meet Violet again. They didn’t truly dislike her, but they had made a promise and planned on keeping it. But Odette was nice, he was glad to have someone like Penny around, not to mention Zavier, they hadn’t seen much of Aster but the cat she had seemed interesting and he would really like to meet it and get to know it a bit. And May. He dearly hoped May would stay, even if some of the other townsfolk clearly unsettled them. Lior would hate to see Mayriott go off on their own, he would hate to imagine the fear and distress he would live through in every new town and village he entered. Afraid that whatever they were running from had followed them there. And besides they wanted them close, the same way they wanted Zavier close, just like they would have wanted Luna close if he hadn’t run away.
Before he had time to dwell on her long, a sharp pain in his leg woke him from his half-sleeping daze. They made a grunt, that he hoped the others would mistake for snoring. They pulled their leg up to their chest on instinct like a wounded animal would.
Lior kept on forgetting that there would always be good and bad days for him now. They kept thinking they could do everything they could before. Be on their feet all day, not thinking about resting in between tasks, haul wood through the thick of a forest without regard for the consequences it would have.
The leg flared up in pain again, it felt just like in those medicine induced dreams, like red, and the screaming silence of a thousand canaries. After that wave of pain began to die down, they could breathe again. This kind of pain was the worst they ever got, luckily. There would be a dull ache in the morning and throughout the day, but it could not compare to the agony he was in now.
They closed their eyes, not that it stopped the silent tear welling up at the next wave of pain and tried to put his racing mind to rest and shut out the familiar voice, that haunted him on nights like this.
On these nights Lior wished he were back at the healer’s house in their hometown. They wished for the moon drops she would give him for the pain. They yearned for their brother to sit at their bedside again and help him sleep through the pain. And even more, just like he had then, he yearned for him to still be there when they woke. To lie beside him on the bed like a mirror image.
2. How does your oc remember their childhood? Is this an accurate reflection of what their childhood was actually like?
She remembers her childhood as softer than it actually was. She remembers hugs from her parents, scrapping with her siblings and playing hide and seek. She doesn’t remember her parents not being paid enough, or the hunger, or her parents getting home exhausted only to cook like cabbage.
36. Does your oc believe they deserve it when bad things happen to them?
Sometimes. She knows she could be a better person, but she wants to be happy still. She tries to be optimistic, telling itself it’s just chance, that it is what it is. She tries not to blame herself. Some of her alters are better at this than others.
