Chapter 2 — Press of silk
6:22 AM
Y/N’s apartment complex.
It’s still dark outside. The streets of liverpool stirring, busy folk heading to work, getting up for school, opening up shop; and in the midst of it all, in a sleek apartment downtown, lay Y/N.
‘Fuck..’
She mumbles to herself. She’s barely got a lick of sleep. Why? Because not only has she got a dreadful headache from drinking the night before, but her eyes are straining against the glare of her screen, the blue white and blue from the email page she has open lighting up her face while she lounges in the dark of her room.
Her fingers scroll down, one hand leaning on her forehead— the same few messages just recycled keep popping up;
‘Aintree Hospital is hiring, Y/N please appl..’
‘Your spotify subscrip..’
‘The medical hub..’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since Y/N was a little girl, she’s always been interested in doing something in the medical field.
Her parents, both nurses since they were young, have always loved helping people. It was in their blood. In their veins, and in their heart that helping people feel their best is was what they desired to do.
Y/N can remember since when she was young that she wanted to do the same. She wanted to be one of those people that were able to help someone and make them feel better. It’s just how she’s always been.
Before Y/N moved to Liverpool, she lived in Madrid. While she was there, she was offered a placement job to help out at the club Real Madrid as a nurse working alongside the physiotherapists. It was her biggest job so far. It was never about working with the big names; that’s not what she cared zbout, it was more about being able to do what she does best.
This would then go on to mean that Y/N history with some of the Real Madrid players— Mbappé, Vinícius, Tcohouaméni, Bellingham, and they all had a great bond. Like siblings.
After a few years of working there, Y/N had decided that she’d wanted a change. She’d considered going back home to France, but found little interest there. She wanted a new journey and to see where life would take her, which is the sole reason she moved to Liverpool.
It’s how she’s met her closest friends: Kisha, Gia and Mariz.
Some of the real Madrid players were against her leaving, due to growing a fond relationship with her, but in the supported her choice and wished her farewell to Liverpool, hoping they’d take care of her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her phone is face down. Shes barely looked at it since the night before. She didn’t think much about it either, her mind already someplace else.
There’s only a few texts from her group chat from a couple hours ago.

Y/N’s still sat with her feet on her chair, biting her nails in anticipation as she clicks on the top email. She pushes her glasses to sit on her nose comfortably, quietly repeating the words she’s reading.
‘Dear Y/N L/N,
We are pleased to offer you the position of First Team Physiotherapist at Liverpool Football Club.
Your experience and qualifications impressed our medical team, and we believe you would be a great addition to the club.
You will be expected to start on the Monday coming.

Holy shit. Y/N blinks at her screen. Once. Twice. Then she squeals, spinning her chair in circles. Her face breaks out into a smile. She hugs her knees into her chest.
This is exactly what she came to Liverpool for.
Y/N types back, her manicured nails moving swiftly over the keyboard—

Dear Sarah,
Thank you very much for the offer. I’m delighted to accept the position of First Team Physiotherapist at Liverpool Football Club.
I’m really looking forward to joining the team and getting started.

And then she closes her laptop, the hood meeting the base.
The monday coming?
It’s going to be a hell of a day.

Anfield Training Centre—
Monday 21st
8:42 AM.
The centre is busy. Liverpool always is.
There’s nothing else more exciting than when there’s a full house.
Hugo’s sat on the bench, Isak across from him, Gakpo across him doing God knows what with the stretch bands.
Hugo’s supposed to be foam rolling, but here he is instead, on his phone, quite passive for someone assumed to be productive.
On his phone, Instagram is open. It’s been open. Since six this morning when he got up, to be precise.

His leg twitched.
After he’d gone home, had he gone searching for Kisha’s instagram?
Maybe.
Did he feel ashamed when he’d finally found it, knowing that Y/N would more than likely be on there and he’d be able to find her insta?
Absolutely not.
But he should.
His fingers hovered over the like count. He’s sure she’d be there.. just..
“Oi.”
“Ekitike.”
Hugo’s head snapped up, fingers tightening over his phone instinctively as he looks up from where his hands held onto the device securely.
It’s Iraola.
“If you’re going to be doing two things at once, make sure you’re actually doing two things at once, yeah?”
Hugo sucks in a breath, placing his phone face down on the bench next to him.
“My bad. Just..”
“Stop. Don’t. It’s fine. You know how it is though.”
He points between Hugo and the bench.
“Just stay focused, alright?”
Hugo jerks his head, watching as Iraola steps away from him.
The man then turns back, a finger out, suddenly remembering something.
“Heads up, fresh meat today. Medical side. Make her feel welcome yeah?”
Hugo nods. He makes a mental note to swing by just to say hello to said ‘fresh meat.’
He then waits until Iraola is completely out of sight, feigning productivity before jutting his hand out to swing for his phone— until his phone is snatched right before he could grasp it.
“Merde!”
The French curse rolls off his tongue naturally.
Hugo looks up, his face tensing before he scoffs, eyes rolling to the back of his head.
“Seriously, Virgil?”
The captain looks at Hugo’s phone, then down at him.
“Shouldn’t be so distracted, Heki.”
He tuts.
The nickname is somewhat mocking, but he smirks nonetheless, perching on the bench beside him, feet crossing over eachother. He glances at the phone again, then after a brief moment of silence he snorts.
“Isn’t this the girl from yesterday?”
Virgil questions.
“The one who was with the girl who you failed to get a name from?”
Hugo doesn’t respond. Not at first.
“What you doing on her insta?”
He pauses.
“Kinda stalker-ish don’t you think, Heki?”
The blonde rolls his eyes.
“You said she was good looking too.“
“Never said I didn’t.”
Hugo sucks in a breath before speaking.
“Besides, this is her friends insta, not her own.”
Virgil’s head tilts, nodding slowly.
“Right..”
A pause. The two men then both break out in laughter.
Hugo finally puts his phone away, now actually being productive; foam rolling, band work, the lot.
Before long the team are all called to the field for beginning of outdoor training.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The whistle blows. The boys are structured in a half circle, Iraola stepping up to the center, chewing a piece of gum, a clipboard in hand.
“Good morning, gentlemen.”
There’s a murmur of response from the men.
Iraola’s eyebrows briefly raise.
“Thank you for the enthusiasm..” he mumbles before clearing his throat.
“As we know, there’s games coming up, boys.”
“We have had far too many injured, weak playoffs, and half assed training sessions.”
No one says anything, Virgil, looks around, making eye contact with each of the boys making subtle faces. As much as he knows that they’re a team, as captain he feels like they’re his responsibility. You can’t blame the man.
“I’m not happy with that,” Iraola continues.
“So we’ve had to bring in some more helpers, people who will keep you in shape, and loosen yourselves up— literally; so we can stay our best on the fields as much as we can.”
A pause.
Footsteps.
New balance trainers.
“So boys..”
Bootcut jeans.
“I’d like..”
Fitted black tee.
“To introduce you all..”
Shiny leather jacket.
“To our newest..”
Bag slung over one shoulder.
“Medical staff addition..”
Mahogany gaze that’s just that tad bit soft around the edges.
“L/N..”
Dark hair shimmering in a press of silk.
“Y/N, L/N.”
