Reblog this is you were lifting BEFORE you found the shoplifting community on tumblr
if you use tags on your l1fting posts you’re a fucking idiot and you will be BLOCKED. How STUPID can people be??? It’s just ASKING to be doxxed and caught! JFC!!
omg how many times do i have to say this. DO NOT FOLLOW ME IF YOU DO NOT 🏋️ I DO NOT FUCKING WANT YOU HEREUHHHH
cäměra research, what little i know for now
domes- wide angle lens. fixed, panoramic view. those ones u see like barnacles on the ceiling, but can also be sticking out from a wall.
bullet (most common)- long-range, often lowlight / night vision. mostly outdoors. blindspots indoors. no remote pan/tilt. can be fixed or varifocal lens
ptz — kinda look like combo of dome & bullet or like a dome on a stick. up to 360 degrees. not wide-angle so require remote operator.
fisheye - cannot be remotely adjusted. over 180 degrees up to 360. ultra wide angle, panoramic view. used to cover blind spots.
turret - short & long range hd. discreet & have most coverage. 360 rotation, can be remotely controlled. but can break easily bc of moving parts, needing maintenance.
they will all have visible lenses if you look closely enough (prob bad idea). unless its those secret hidden ones that creeps put in bathrooms but i don;t think stores use those
i’m sure there are all types of combos but i also doubt stores are updating their systems often enough for u to have to worry about them. will update if i learn more useful info
for roleplay purposes !!
LP's Five Steps (and What it Means) ♧
If you frequently lurk in the L(oser)P spaces you've likely heard people mention the five elements or steps before. These are used generally for all LP when it comes to making a stop or apprehension on a l1!fter. The steps may be a little different depending on the store but generally this is what I saw most often.
1. Enter Store or Alert Signal
The reason why the "enter store/department without merchandise" step exists is to make sure someone isnt entering with something that belongs to them that they might just put down, look around, and pick back up.
Alternatively, some may have the first step be "alert signal" which is when LP decides to observe someone. This is because that person might have something "suspicious" about them, whether it be wearing a big coat in warmer weather, looking around for cams, wearing a backpack....looking outside the 'norm'... ..not being white...... etc.!!
2. Selection
Next, LP would have to see you actually pick up the item from the shelves, rack, or display. Depending on what it is they may be more focused on tracking the item itself than they are tracking you.
3. Concealment or Intention
In the pockets, bag, purse, or other places to put our items. This is the step LP watches the most for. Remember that depending on what the laws are in where you live that concealing itself may be enough against the law. Do NOT let yourself be seen doing this on cams!
If not concealing, there is also Intention. Whether this is removing tags, switching or replacing barcodes, or preparing a walkout.
4. Maintaining Observation
Most of the time this means that LP has to have close and near constant observation on you all the way up to step 5. This is the stage where you'll sense that you aren't being left alone if they saw you at step 3. Sometimes theyll be obvious, and sometimes theyll keep watch from afar with someone on cams. One of the best ways to break this however is entering a the restroom, which means they would need to start all over again.
However, some stores may have it where they don't require constant observation and instead making sure the person didn't dump it or still have the item in possession when at step 5. Though I still think using the restroom interrupts this as well.
5. Passing last POS
Point of Sale, from the checkout lanes to the eas gate to the exit doors. It depends. This is where LP would try to stop you. But remember, if it isn't the 🐖🚔 then know you can always say no (or nothing) and walk out anyways! Especially if they try to call you out to come back, at that point they're just hoping you'll obey.
Keep this in mind and while some LP may try to skip through their steps in hope theyll be successful, know that they're only putting themselves more at risk doing so. Stay safe and have fun! ☆
reposting bc it had too many notes
forgot to share how i ly🏋️ft dríñkz from gässtätįons but been doin this for YEARS...
1. grab the can of moñstr or whįteçlaw or other drrànk from the cõølers
2. hold it against my side FACING AWAY from the émplôýeės
3. go to bāthròóm. if there is a løck çoðe (a lot of them around my new area do) put it down on a couñter near bäthroom, ask emplõýeë for code, and snátch that binch quickly on the way in
4. place between légz (inside unðerwèar. helps if you wear tíght bõxrs and are afab with dummy thícç thíghs, so perfeçt for me lmao) make that binch TÍGHT AGAINST YOUR CRÕTÇH!! ITS COLD YES
4b. if the pantss strategÿ wont work for u go to bathrøôm anyway and put it in pōckét FACING AWAY FROM REGÏSTËR ON WAY OUT. i do this sometimes when wearing my big ol vëst and bāggy shírrts
5. get out of bāthröm and skrrt skrrt outta there. i always wave at cāshíer and say "hāve a góod day!"
been doing this since i was a tëénäger but forgór to share lol
PSA y’all:
Be extra careful when l1fting from CVŚ from now on. Corporate news is that they’re getting some sophisticated new video cams and if tests go well, several home stores will install them this year too.
PS be careful driving ATL, they got some new shit up on all the streets lol
psa on facial scan software !!! avoid these stores, remember to always wear a mask <3
fkn h8 tãrget they can smd😭😭😭🙏🙏
follow up post to the grocery how to
this is what I meant by ther s sometimes stuff in aisles where you can park your cart act like you’re browsing conceal in your tote and keep it moving
didn’t get a pic but the ice cream frozen foods section is good for this method since there’s usually a ton of product between the freezer aisles
stay safe out there
TIPS MASTERPOST!
I’m making this for me to come back to, and for some friends that don’t have any experience (yeah I’m talking about you S. that lipgloss grab was not smooth)
If anyone wants to add things feel free to reblog. I mainly use concealing/sleight of hand, I would like some tips on using bags in a way that doesn’t set LP on my ass immediately.
A'ight I hit three different trædër jœs on my way across the state and I'm here to present my official method.
You will need a reusable shopping bag and a receipt (preferably, y'know, from them lol but another grocery receipt works in a pinch). Before you go in, have a decent idea of what you want, you wanna be quick, don't give the staff enough time to even notice you.
don't pick up a basket or cart. pick up as many items as you can comfortably hold in your hand, like you're just buying like 5-6 items. then, go to pick up something else. But oh no! You can't carry any more! So you dump all your stuff in your shopping bag. Rinse and repeat, each time you gather a handful of items, put them all in your shopping bag so you can pick up another item. Feel free to look sheepish while you do, like you know you should really just go grab a basket.
Ideally, you want to finish "shopping" somewhere that will lead you past the registers. walk from the register area to the bathroom. This way, any employees seeing you walk to the bathroom just saw you come from the register. Set your bag down somewhere outside the bathroom. Wash your hands, the world is a filthy place. As you leave the bathroom, take that receipt out of your pocket. Walk right out the door while studying your receipt.
Enjoy your fun and quirky snacks!
don't be fooled by the aesthetic of small businesses
lyfting from small businesses is pretty damn unethical, and companies are aware of this, so they will try to make their environment SEEM like a family owned independent anti-corporate space, but that's just bullshit.
by extension this applies to shops like hot topic - punk rock is thrifting and dni, hot topic coopts that aesthetic but it is a corporation. hot topic is not punk rock.
now to the actual meat here - stores like East Meets West are a great example of this. you'll find them in a mall looking like an independent lovely little pagan shop but they are a chain.
they purposely decorate the place with hippie tapestries and pagan stuff but they are a corporation nonetheless. BUYING your religious items from a soulless corporation is soulless in and of itself. it's okay to lyft from these kinds of stores.
how to tell if it's really an indie shop or not? look up locations for it, if there's more than just one, even if it's just a couple in the same state, it's a chain. try and find where they get their inventory, check if they have a website, look for any parent companies on the site, check if they have their own domain rather then selling off of ebay or sm.
if it's a corporate product, you can borrow. if it's actually an independent business, don't. the aesthetic if the product means nothing.
Get to know your local crime reporting pages. Lots of local police jurisdictions post a list of daily crimes, also known as a police blotter. Note the places they pick up Shoplifters. One local Walmart is insanely thirsty and will nab anyone who takes a candy bar. Stay clear of those places. Note the places who constantly call the police and keep that in your head as places to avoid. It’s not worth it with all the stores that are available. As always. Follow the code. Never steal from a person, never steal from a small business.
how i look when im walking through an aisle and there's a camera showing live footage (i have $50 worth of merchandise in my ass and it doesnt even know)
random lil pieces of 🏋️ advice
🏵️bring stuff with you - at a makeup store, bring your "empties" so you "know what you need to buy", at a craft store it depends what specifically you're there for but i crochet, so i'd bring like a lil ball of yarn that i'm trying to "color match", you get the idea, it's a very normal thing to do and gives you a great excuse to be rummaging in your bag/pockets
🏵️talk on the phone - people on the phone tend to pace, wander, fiddle with things, pick things up, etc, and the SAs wont be paying attention to you.
🏵️if you're going to carry hooks or magnets, conceal them on your body. if you get caught, having tools makes it planned instead of spontaneous
🏵️building on that, if you ever get caught, always always say it was an impulse, you don't know why you did it, it was stupid, you saw your friends do it, etc.
🏵️wear sweatbands on your arms, like halfway up your forearm. you can tuck pencil/lipstick size items into it.
🏵️easily forgotten detail, remember to put something soft at the bottom of your bag if you're going to drop things into it 😉
🏵️if you're planning to return things, always pay with cash and use a fake phone/email if they ask for one. honestly, pay with cash as often as possible in general. the last thing you want is a store building a case against you and getting your info from your credit card
🏵️sometimes when doing returns, stores will ask for your ID. say you forgot it at home/recently lost it. if they give you any grief, just offer to come back another time. this is how stores track you in their system and potentially flag you for suspicious activity.
🏵️you should have a fake name, phone number, address, and email address memorized and ready to rattle off.
🏵️wintertime special: wear too many warm things. hat & scarf. be holding a few items in your hand, set most of them down, take off your hat/scarf and shove it in your bag along with 1-2 items.
(can y'all tell i like sleight of hand better than finding a blind spot to conceal? looking for cameras is the most sus thing you can do, imho)
