Tiana. 

“It’s just about the greatest city in tha’ world. Lord knows I miss it.” she sighed as she thought of home. She needed to get back there. She could never understand why she decided to pick up and leave this time around. “Aurora. Pretty name. I’m Tiana.”

“I’ll have to visit one day,” It was a bit too soon in their friendship to say maybe you could show me around. Perhaps eventually, Aurora decided. “Tiana,” She mused the name. “I like it. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Tiana.”

Marian brightened as the woman responded positively, glad as she always was that she could help someone, even in a relatively minor way like returning their belonging that she’d found on the ground. “You’re welcome,” she said, smiling back at her. “Oh, that would be very kind of you, thank you. As long as you agree that I’ll get us something to eat. Perhaps we can split a muffin?”

“I suppose I could agree to that,” Aurora responded jokingly, though inwardly she was relieved by the offer. Her wallet was awfully tighter these days than she liked to admit, or that she was used to. It was too much of a habit of her to be careless with money and she was working hard to break it. Though, losing her wallet in itself was a living example. “A muffin sounds wonderful. Blueberry maybe? Or would you prefer something else?”

Rani popped her head out of the water long enough to catch a breath and then dove right back down to the ocean floor. She scooped up the shells that she had collected into a pile and swam up to the surface once more. The blonde had to overwork her legs to get back to the shallows, since her arms were full of the shells that she had spent the last half hour collecting. When she was about knee length, she plopped down in the shallows and started sorting the shells into piles on the sand by her legs. The ocean was calm today, so the shells actually stayed in place for once. She noticed someone who had been watching her from the shore for a few minutes and turned toward them with a welcoming smile. “Did you want some shells? I have plenty. Fresh from the ocean floor.” She called to the person, giggling a little.

“A shell collector then?” Aurora had come down to the ocean today for her day off. She had been in debate between sunbathing, going into the ocean, or just reading a good book. All she knew for sure was that she needed a break from the flowers and plants, and what better place than the ocean for that? “You must be a skilled swimmer.” She noted seeing the plethora of shells. “Do you do this often or did I choose a lucky day to come to the beach?” She asked.

Tiana Rodgers.

“I’m from New Orleans. If there’s one thing you need in that city, it’s a safe word.” Tiana let out a low chuckle. “The bars I go to tend to have it. I don’t know if it’s a nation wide thing by now though.” she told her with a smile. “What’s your name sug?”

“New Orleans? I’ve heard wonderful things about there, though I’ve never been myself.” It sounded like a city that was alive. Aurora wanted nothing more then to visit it one day. “It should be a nation wide thing, would save a lot of people a lot of grief.” Aurora noted. “I’m Aurora.” She introduced, offering her hand to the other girl.

Lottie Labouff​:

“I know the owner, well, big daddy knows the owner, I’ll have him send ovah a bottle of prosecco for us.” Perhaps something sweet would help both their moods. “Must be beautiful working with flowers though.” Lottie liked to think of herself as an event planner but really she just planned the parties for her dad’s company and their family events. 

She knew the owner? Perhaps night was really her lucky night. “Sounds good.” A bottle of prosecco wasn’t something Aurora had ever had before but she wouldn’t deny a new experience. “It is,” She nodded. “The best part of the job honestly, they’re all so beautiful. Watching them grow is the best part, with the worst being watching them wither. Also the same guy in different fonts coming in each day for a ‘dozen roses’.” It was a cliche.

“Ahh sometimes we deserve a little ego boost, helps the alcohol slide down nicer” Evelyn teased the other for a moment, she enjoyed this little town and the new people you met everyday “I’m very glad to hear it after all one doesn’t wish to feel like a poacher before they’ve even begun the hunt” She replied nodding her head “Not even official yet? Well, then she can’t really say much given how much I’ll enjoy your company in her absence”

Aurora chuckled from the words. Long ago the words would have fit right into her mindset, but she was very different nowadays without her fortune (or her parents). Now, the words were more a rarity, more welcoming. “It does need a good slide.” She didn’t hold things well, which was why she typically stuck more to wines. “I see, are you a hunter yourself?” She asked, a quirk of her brow at the words. “I’m not sure how enjoyable my company is, but I’m pleased you like it.”

Belle.

Belle looked up from the book she was reading, a smile touching her lips as Aurora walked in holding the flowers. “Oh, wow, those are gorgeous,” she said, offering her roommate another smile. She gently tucked her bookmark into place before closing the book and standing up. “Thank you.” She took them from Aurora and went into the kitchen to find a vase. They had started to acquire quite the collection. “How was work today?”

“Why thank you, I was hoping you’d like them.” Aurora was almost positive she would, after spending so much time with Belle she’d grown to learn her tastes and likes. It felt like an accomplishment to get it right. It was unsurprising to find her with a book in hand, they were practically part of the other girl’s wardrobe by now. “Nothing unusual today, we didn’t have too many customers.” She confessed. “I was actually thinking of beginning to bring books in if the lack of activity keeps up.”

     “Hi, I’m sorry to bother you, it’s just…well, here” Basil smiled softly as he outstretched his arm, offering her to small bouquet of flowers in his hand. It had become a weekly tradition for him by now that he liked to take any of the flowers that had minor imperfections and make a bouquet out of them that he would give to somebody he thought needed it. They would have only been thrown away otherwise, and it was worth it to bring a smile to people’s faces. “I just thought you might like some flowers”

Aurora frowned at the apology of bothering her when he hadn’t been a bother at all, the poor young man, she thought. “No bother at all.” she promised him, only to find herself with a small bouquet of flowers. “Oh these are lovely, you arranged them very well.” She had seen so many poor arrangements, seeing one so lovely took her by surprise. “I do, flowers are honestly my favorite.” And receiving them from another made her feel all the better. “Thank you so much, you’re quite kind young man.”

Sylvia Mist.

     “You’re too sweet, thank you” she giggled, smiling brightly as she flushed as the blonde insisted on complimenting her. “Men that are worth it are unfortunately extremely rare” she sighed, shaking her head. Sylvia didn’t want to think about it right now, she had come out on a mission to relax and destress, after all. “I wouldn’t be mad at that” she laughed. “I’d have to think of something creative for yours too, though” Sylvia teased, inviting herself to sit across from the other. “Well it looks delicious”

“You’re welcome.” Aurora responded, it was important to her to affirm her words and that she meant them. “Tell me about it, I don’t think I’ve ever met a man who was worth it.” She commented with a slight sigh. Some were good to look at, but never had she met a man worth talking to. At least, romantically wise at least. “A creative name for me, huh? What’bout....”Aurora tried to think of something clever. “Maybe Damsel? You did play my hero.” She joked. “The whole name is Aurora Briar Rose if you wanna make something from that.” She offered before taking a deep sip from her drink. “It is, would you want to try it?”

“I brought home some flowers,” Aurora called as she opened the door to their shared apartment. She’d forgotten the key and texted Belle earlier to keep the door open, the other girl was usually on top of texts so she wasn’t surprised to find it open as she requested. “Yellow and blue.” She grinned. “Your favorites, right?”

“Well I was tryin’ ta get Ti to come join us but she said she was workin’ late and that usually means all night, besides, this really ain’t her scene.” she sighed lightly. Her best friend was always overworking herself. “But I get to see you! So that’s excitin’” 

“Guess we’ll just have to drink enough for three,” Aurora suggested mostly as a joke, though she wouldn’t mind an extra drink or two to move the night along. “She’ll be with us in spirit.” She decided. “Oh yes, but no, you’re gonna think differently when you hear how its been going. Nothing but boring florist work.”

“I beg your pardon,” Marian began shyly, reaching out to gently touch the other woman’s sleeve. “Is this yours? I thought I saw you drop it on the way in.” The other woman had entered the cafe just ahead of Marian, and she’d found the object on the floor between them. “I’m sorry if I’ve bothered you, I just wanted to ask before I asked for the lost and found,” she went on, offering the other another soft smile.

Aurora was tired. Moreso then her usual bouts of exhaustion, she was just all together dreary in demeanor. She startled at the small and gentle touch on her arm, only to find the familiar wallet in her hands. Pink, flowers, Aurora recgonized it anywhere. “Shit, I would have been super lost without this. You sorta just saved by bum.” She offered a smile despite her exhaustion. “Thank you tons, truly. Let me by you a drink in my gratitude?” It’d also, selfishly, give Aurora a chance for a break. It fit though.

Sylvia Mist.

     “Oh, well thanks…I don’t know about that” Sylvia smiled, ducking her head as she felt her cheeks flush. “It’s the worst” she agreed, rolling her eyes. “Good girl. He’s not worth it in the slightest and it’s my pleasure” she grinned back at the other girl. She was relieved to hear that she wasn’t going to let the creep ruin her fun. “You can call me Lamplina if you want to but, I’m Sylvia…it’s really nice to meet you” she chuckled. “What are you drinking?”

“Well that makes one of us, cause I-for one, am sure.” She said, a grin broad on her cheeks as she spoke. Aurora nodded in agreement, they truly were the worst. “Honestly I doubt any guy who would make you go through such a thing is. The real deal just isn’t that, the whole thing of being an utter douche.” She exclaimed. “Maybe you’ll be Lamplina in my contacts, that way she’ll live on.” Aurora joked. “I guess Sylvia is good too.” She glanced at her drink. “Sunset something, I honestly don’t remember the name.”

Merida Dunbrock.

“Confidence has never been my issue,” she smirked. “Fake humility is just another way to lie, and honesty has always been my policy.” She flipped a strand of red over her shoulder with a flourish as she said “Thank you.” Merida looked over at the man in question and waited, but he seemed to be staying away. “He might be a bit smarter than he looks if he’s staying away.” She turned back to her friend and shook her head. “I swear they wouldn’t be so bad if they just knew how to take ‘no’ for an answer. Read the room, dumb ass, she’s not interested.”

“I’ve noticed,” Aurora said not without fondness. She enjoyed Merida’s boldness and willingness to act when so many would cease to. “You’re probably the most honest person I know, for better or worse.” She spoke it with a grin upon her lips. At least for the moment, it felt for better. “Yeah he knows his broken nose could probably be found in your right hook.” She joked, though she didn’t doubt Merida’s skills. “Naw they’d still be pretty bad honestly. It sucks a girl can’t sit by her lonesome without some guy thinking she’s lonely. Ya know?”

Tiana Rodgers. 

Tiana smiled as she cleaned the bar on the other side. Cal’s had a bar so at night it tended become more of a hang out than a diner. At least she got to add bartending to her resume. and her friends couldn’t say she never came out…after all she was out…..technically. “An Angel shot.” she said to the woman. “You feel uncomfortable you order that. Order it on the rocks if you feel in danger. I’ll get you out of there.”

“Angel shot huh?” She considered the words, liking the sound of them. “Like a safe word, I like it.” It felt good to have a backup plan if anything too striking happened. It was a sense of relief. “I’ll remember that.” She remarked. “Is that an all bartenders thing or-“ she glanced at her name tag. “A Tiana special?”

Evelyn overheard the whole conversation how could she not given her close proximity to the woman. “People will always chase after things they can’t hope to obtain” she replied offhandedly before taking a sip of her drink. “I rather like your denial though, Lamplina is quite the interesting choice, she won’t be too upset with me if I chat you up will she?” she teased her for a moment. “I promise to keep my hands and flirtatious behavior to myself, and what little company I can get”

“You’re not doing great things for my ego when you say stuff like that,” if Aurora had her way no man would ever obtain her. Rather that then be anyone’s possession. “Lamplina? Oh no she’s not the jealous type.” Aurora spoke with a smile split on her cheeks. “To be quite honest we’re not actually in the official title part yet so…”

Fiona Kaplan. 

The night was still very young when Fiza got to the club that night, and since she would rather not go dancing before having a few drinks, she perched herself at the bar, watching as the people around her mingled. A rather comical scene played out before her. A guy was trying to hit on the woman to her right, but was having no luck. Soon, he was scampering off with the woman in question mumbling to herself. “Some women would love to be in your shoes.” Not her, but she was sure some wouldn’t mind being hit on. “You should come out with a girl friend next time. These sort of things almost always happens when you’re alone.” 

“I don’t know whether to pity those woman or envy them,” Pity that they fell for such obnoxious cheap tricks or envy their to enjoy a man’s charm and open their heart. It was a mixed bag in any case. She considered the womans suggestion, it gave Aurora pause. It did sound like a considerably nicer option than her current situation. “I like the sound of that,” she decided. “I don’t suppose you’d want to stick with me tonight, be my man repeller.” She asked with a upturn to her cheek. “No pressure of course.” Truly she meant it, there was no world where Aurora pressured another person into any situation.
