Idk if this is clear, but Jess Mariano is my favorite character from Gilmore Girls, and it’s so important to me that his character (flaws and all) be respected.

The thing is, he *has* to be a torn up jerk of a boy to give weight to and deal respectfully with his background. In that vein, he *has* to make mistakes. He *has* to try and fail. He *has* to be unequip to deal with life’s demands and the consequences of not meeting them. He *has* to lash out and fall into moments of self-hatred. He just *cannot* be the good boyfriend he desperately wanted to be or the good student Luke wanted him to be.

And that’s part of why his healing and centering and building a better life is *so satisfying*. Because it’s the resolution to a horrifically realistic story. If it hadn’t been so hard-earned, it would have felt like an after school special. It wouldn’t have struck a cord. It would have felt like pandering.

Yes, I wish he’d made better choices as a kid (the things we lost to his bad choices), but it wouldn’t have been honest. Because Jess didn’t have any way of being equipped to make better choices than the ones he made. My boy did his *best* with what he’d been raised with, and he took every consequence on the chin and *learned better*. I *love* him the way he is written. Jess Mariano is my perfect, special boy.

I just… love the mess that is teen wolf so much. I love the cheap fights with techno music blasting, the funny way they extend their claws, the villains that turn into allies because there’s even worst enemies to defeat, the healing abilities that work or not depending on the plot, the friendship of Scott “I’m not letting him die” McCall and Stiles “Could you aT LEAST thiNK abOUt letting hiM DIE??” Stilinski, the non existent lights from season 5 to 6, the highs and lows of lacrosse, the coach and Greenberg, the random resurrections, ….I just…. there’s twin werewolves that merge into each other creating a big ass dude, there was a dude with a mouth on HiS hAND. I love teen wolf.
