Characters: Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Astarion, Eira, Halsin, Karlach, Gale, Wyll
Returning to camp, the four who went out to fight sit down at the center, exhausted.
Shadowheart is the first one to speak up.
"Someone ready to tell the rest of us what happened out there?"
The ones who didn't go with, who stayed behind, go and take a seat next to the depleted travelers.
Lae'zel is quick to respond.
"I don't know, Shadowheart. Are you ready to tell us why you didn't heal me?"
The two are fast to argue, leaving no room for the rest of camp to interrupt.
Astarion just lays on the ground, groaning into the grass, both out of exhaustion and of annoyance.
Eira stands up at that.
Two sets of eyes follow her, Halsin's and Karlach's.
She takes a few steps back, her hands clenching and unclenching, a frown on her face.
She unsheathes her staff, mindlessly turning it and tapping it on the ground.
Then she turns around and hits the large rock behind her.
There's a twhack to be heard.
A few more hits follow, the staff showing no sign of breaking, and no dent following in the rock.
Still, it has Halsin concerned.
He stands up and moves fast, standing beside Eira and holding her right arm, stopping her from taking out her frustration on the mass of earth.
"Enough, Eira. Tell us what went wrong."
She tugs a little at the hold, but isn't strong enough to break free. She stops resisting at that.
"It's just- it was supposed to be easy. I don't get why we couldn't control the situation! Lae'zel almost died, Astarion was in a tight spot, and Shadowheart and I barely got by with the two of us. It's not... It was meant to work out."
She pouts, her frown not disappearing at that.
Halsin doesn't let go of her arm. Instead, he refocuses his grip to be near her wrist, lowering her arm in the process.
"I get that. Life does not always follow your plan, and you'd be remiss to think you could control the rules of nature. The important thing is to learn of your mistakes, and prevent them from happening again."
He chuckles, trying to lighten the mood.
"But the poor staff didn't do anything wrong. There's no need to take your anger out in that way. You wouldn't like it if I slammed you against the rock, would you?"
The staff falls out of her hand at that, and all conversation seemed to stop at camp.
Eira's mouth opens, closes, and opens again, no sound coming out.
A few chuckles and groans could be heard from the group. Karlach and Astarion seem especially intrigued in what is happening now.
"I... don't know how to answer that."
Astarion decides to help.
"Sounds like it would hurt, darling."
She turns her head towards him, fury in her eyes, and he only waves his fingers in return, clearly amused.
Nobody mentions the furious blush that makes her skin turn yellow.
"You're right, Halsin, I should not have done that."
She pulls her wrist free with one sharp tug, and folds her hands together.
"Apologies for that behaviour."
And she makes her fast retreat to her tent.
Gale is the only one who speaks up, after the group watches her disappear behind the tent folds.
"...she does know you guys will travel on soon, right?"
Wyll pats his shoulder.
"I believe it's best to give her some time alone, Gale."
