colorful macau
I walked through the small streets of Macao. I heard the sound of cars driving over cobble stoned streets, mixed with daily chatter in mandarin and Cantonese. Nestled at the end of a tiny street was a temple, as I emerged from the street the smell of incense lingered in my nose.
Over Coffee.
I left for Saigon with no plan. Just a typical - how to get to my accommodation from the airport. Within the first 10 minutes of arrival I met a woman who is from Taipei and was there on business. We have plans to meet for coffee in Taipei. I then met Adam, on his way home from 5 months in Antarctica, we shared a cab to the center. Later we ate street food and drank together. Over coffee he let me ask an enumerable amount of questions as he had been working in ...Antarctica for the past 5 years! A friend also put me in touch with Tuyen, a Canadian born Vietnamese living in Vietnam and working as an epidemiologist for the U.N. . He ran me around town and over coffee we discussed everything from city planning, his work in Myanmar with the rohingya crisis, to the effects of agent orange and continuous effects of dioxin. My last day I spent on the back of Lam’s motorbike, learning more about the cities history. Over coffee he taught me a lot about his city. At moments my trip felt heavy, learning about some of Vietnams history. Mostly, my explorer high left me feeling euphoric. My time there was short, but full. ...Saigon you are an incredible city
