A racist killer is free and ready to kill more people. How do they even let him out after all he had done when black men stay in prison for life for stealing $31 worth of candy barsâŠ
It might surprise you that Wisconsin schools hand out suspensions to black students at the highest rate in the country. If so, you've probably never lived in Milwaukee.
Education
Suspensions are just the beginning. The state also has the largest achievement gapbetween black and white students in the country, and ranks last in reading comprehension tests among black fourth-gradersâŠ
Incarceration
Over the past decade, many states have transitioned to policies that favor rehabilitation over incarceration. Wisconsin, on the other hand, has actually investedmore in public and private prisons over the last 20 yearsâŠ
âThe prison population in Wisconsin has more than tripled since 1990, fueled by increased government funding for drug enforcement (rather than treatment) and prison construction, three-strike rules, mandatory minimum sentence laws, truth-in-sentencing replacing judicial discretion in setting punishments, concentrated policing in minority communities, and state incarceration for minor probation and supervision violations.â
Segregation
Milwaukee County is divided along racial and political lines, and the city is the most segregated in America. An old, racist joke among locals is that the cityâs 16th Street viaduct bridge is the longest structure in the world, linking âAfrica to Europe.â âŠ

As someone who has been âthin-shamedâ I can say it does Not at all go hand in hand with fat shaming. People âthin-shamingâ me was mostly verbal harassment- youâre too skinny, you look like a boy, eat a fucking cheeseburger, whatâs wrong with you why donât you like food?
But guess what, I donât have a problem finding clothes that fit me. There arenât companies that refuse to make clothes for my size. There is no shortage of messages telling me that despite the harassment of some, I am still beautiful and ideal even if Iâm unhealthy. Despite being thin-shamed, I still PANICKED when I started a medicine that made me gain weight, and I had to really analyze that, because no matter what my culture will still say that âfat is unidealâ âfat is badâ and âhonestly its fine to starve yourself / but shameful and bad to overeat.â
So âthin-shamingâ is shitty because itâs shitty to be judged and have people make assumptions about you. But Fat-shaming is institutional, itâs not just individuals harassment and judgement, itâs potential jobs, itâs clothing companies, itâs media and advertisement, all telling you youâre bad as you are. Like what a way shittier thing.
HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle MonĂĄe)âbrilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nationâs confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
Louisiana is experiencing the worst flooding in the history of the state.
Over 7,000 people have been rescued and over 5,000 people are in shelters unable to return to their homes. In addition, over 1,000 drivers are stranded on Interstate 12 between Baton Rouge and Slidell, who today received supplies flown in via helicopter. AT&T service has been down throughout the Baton Rouge metro area. One of my former professors told me heâs been living in Louisiana for 44 years, and has never witnessed flooding this severe.
In Denham Springs (about 10 miles from Baton Rouge), the Amite river is currently at 46âČ and rising. Flood stage for the river starts at 29âČ.Â
This is bad, really bad. Places that only flood once every 500 years are flooding. Unfortunately, these are also places where people donât have flood insurance because they donât live in a flood plain.
There was no warning for this, at least with hurricanes we can see them coming and have time to prepare or evacuate.
Please, if you can, donate to the victims through the Red Cross. Or, if you are interested in helping with post-flood disaster assistance, please sign up with Volunteer Louisiana.
If you live in the effected area and are in need of a shelter, This Link has a list of shelters in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberia, Lafayette, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Vermillion, West Feliciana, and Washington Parishes.
If you are in need of rescue please call:

Baton Rouge:Â (225) 389-5000
Central:Â (225) 367-1254
Livingston Parish:Â (225) 686-3996
St. Helena Parish:Â 222-4413 - press 0
Patients in need of kidney dialysis:Â (225) 772-1428
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BOOST THIS! I AM NOT IN THE FLOODING BUT FAMILY IS VERY VERY CLOSE. SOME ARE STILL WAITING TO BE RESCUED SO PLEASE PLEASE SPREAD THIS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
14-year-old Jesse Romero was shot and killed by a LA police officer Tuesday, August 9.
Romero was suspected of writing gang-style graffiti in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles.
The boy was fatally shot while attempting to flee the scene. Romero allegedly had a gun, witnesses say he threw it away before he started running.
Before you come up with the âHe deserved to die - he had a gun and tried to run awayâ bullcrap, ask yourself what you would do if you were a 14 year old teen of color and the police were after you. Ask yourself if itâs fair that communities of color live in poverty. Ask yourself if youâd say âhe deserved itâ if it were your white 14-year-old son.
Teresa DomĂnguez, Jesseâs mother, is mourning her dead child: âI canât believe heâs deadâŠI canât believe it. I feel like heâs going to come back, but I have to accept the truth.â
Jesse would have turned 15 on August 24.

An HIV-positive Michigan woman took police to court and wonÂ
Three years after being ticketed for not disclosing to an officer that she has HIV, Shalandra Jones just won her court case against the police. During the traffic stop Jones was under no legal obligation to reveal her HIV status to a law enforcement official. Jones will now walk away with a large settlement payout.
Black man Charles Kinsey told police he was unarmed before being shot
Charles Kinsey, a therapist who works at an assisted living facility, was trying to help an autistic patient that escaped from a group home on Monday. Police arrived in response to a 911 call regarding an armed man who was threatening suicide. Kinsey was then shot by North Miami Police, despite being unarmed and pleading with the officers, his hands in the air. He survived and was treated for his wound.
âWhen it hit me I had my hands in the air, and Iâm thinking I just got shot!â the caregiver told WSVN. âAnd Iâm saying, âSir, why did you shoot me?ââ The officer responded with three jaw-dropping words.
The officer apparently responded âI donât knowâ when Kinsey asked why he shot him. Like, can you imagine shooting someone and then saying you donât know why you did it? Guaranteed nothing will happen to the officer that fired the shot because apparently almost killing black men is a totally forgivable crime as long as you say âwhoopsieâ after. This is disgusting.
Honestly though, thank god for the fact people have camera phones and footage like this is available.Â
I dont know how much more our culture can take of this⊠Every single life of each and every unarmed person of color by cops needs to be remembered, because their lives do matter, black lives matter. This man was a health care professional, and he was SHOT by the people who have sworn to protect him. This is unacceptable, firing a weapon should be the absolute LAST resort that law enforcement uses.
This man survived, thankfully, but too many lives have already been lost, and they matter. They matter.
My name is Jose Ramon but I prefer Ramon. I am an undocumented disabled person of color with a form of AMC (Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita). I made this side blog because I hardly see Poc with Disabilities or we are forgotten in social movements. I want non disable bodied people to see that we do exist, we have a voice. My goal is to promote self love, body positivity, to connect with other PoC with Disabilities and most importantly to let others know that we arenât broken, we dont need to be fixed, we need to fix the society we live in. Today is AMC Awareness Day and this is my picture, my hair is messy because I want to show me, the person who needs help getting ready for the day. I donât need pity, only visibility.
The caretaker of an autistic man was shot in the leg by a North Miami police officer Monday, after a 911 call warned of a suicidal man in the street with a gun. There was no indication that a weapon was found.
