Also I haven’t found anything about either Dioscuri having a male lover, I think Pollux only ever had a thing with Phoebe and an unnamed Lemnian woman. I also haven’t found anything about Pollux having major beef with most heroes (even when he did it’s for very specific reasons) nor have I heard of him being separate from his brother (they’re a set DO NOT seperate) so this is just further mischaracterization. So why not make an OC?

This also made me notice something, whenever retellings write about the gay relationships of male heroes they either erase, sideline or villainize the women of their straight relationships (looking at you song of Achilles) and when they focus on the straight relationships they always ignore the gay relationships (like that one Pelops and Hippodamia retelling).

So like you have to pick between misogyny or homophobia and you get biphobia either way lmao

So… I looked at the reviews for Sweetbitter Song, one says there’s a graphic rape scene with Melantho WHEN SHE WAS FORTEEN and she’s raped by (of all characters) Castor, and the rape scene is written in such pornographic detail and Castor is so weirdly sexualized and it makes me sick to my stomach and not in the way the author intended (warning, it’s really graphic):

I’m so fucking sick of these writers using graphic rape scenes as a crutch to make their readers uncomfortable, it just shows how lazy and shallow they really are about their “feminist reclaiming”, it betrays the fact they don’t actually fucking care about these women they just wanna use the horrors of slavery and sexual violence for a quick buck. There’s literally a million more tasteful ways to write about sexual violence and this isn’t one of them.

And why fucking Castor and Polydeuces? What the fuck did they do to deserve this? Sure there are myths where they kidnap women but where the fuck does it say they’re man-whores who take advantage of slaves? Where does it say they rape Melantho? Why are these retellings so help bent on making Greek men these hypersexual patriarchal monsters and women these fragile submissive creatures? It honestly reminds me of the orientalism aimed at Arab men and women.

My headcanon to fix the Castor and Pollux timeline is that Leda gave birth to four eggs, the first two hatched earlier, while Helen and Clytemnestra hatched much later, I imagine that Castor and Pollux were teenagers when they joined the Argonauts. So even though they are actually much older and this timeline would make them closer in age to Theseus than to Helen, they would look significantly younger maybe because of their egg origin + Pollux divine side.

okay rick, i need to know if Pollux and Dakota ever met. would they get along?? would Pollux be reminded of Castor when he saw him? or did Pollux ever have to explain that, no, he’s not an only child— he’s actually a twin. do you think Dakota ever mourned the loss of a sibling he never met? i need to know!!!!!!!!
