Working on the Required Monologues for The Infernal Devices. ;)
(In other news, the site revamp is going well. We should be back online with five new adaptations by the end of the month!)
Introducing the first of five new Book-To-Film Adaptations for 2014…THE INFERNAL DEVICES: CLOCKWORK ANGEL!
In the meantime, pick up a copy and sit tight while our site renovations continue. (We’ll be back online soon!)
The goal of User Based Casting is simple: to score one of our members an audition for a leading role in an upcoming YA book-to-film adaptation. To qualify, users film and upload a set of required monologues for their desired character. Fellow members critique these audition videos and offer suggestions for improvement. Users then go on to compete in Voting Cycles, allowing fans to determine which unknowns are the best candidates for their beloved characters.

(I'm working as fast as I can, I swear!)
I think I'm still in shock and denial about this happening, I was online and I just clicked refresh and it was gone. Is there any chance UBC will come back at all? We were so close.
UBC will come back when/if I am able to find solutions for the numerous flaws that have kept us from succeeding. Fixing these issues will take time--it could be a few months until we're back online.
I have taken User Based Casting offline indefinitely. I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. I want to thank everyone who partook in the User Based Casting movement over these last five years. You're all fabulous people and I know you'll go far with whatever path you choose to forge for yourselves. I don't know if User Based Casting will return. What I do know is that the site has many crippling flaws and that I am the worst of them all. Because of my shortcomings, I failed you, myself, and the website itself. There aren't enough words or GIFS out there to convey how goddamn sorry I am about that. There never will be. Take care of yourselves and fly on. Kat
I just think that UBC needs to get out there more. There are plenty of YA lovers and actresses and readers and all who would LOVE the idea of UBC and definitely join/give support/promote, but a lot of people don't know about UBC. I think the problem with #SaveUBC is that it didn't get out to enough people, because it was basically just swimming back and forth throughout a few people who are already active instead of reaching old members and prospective members.
We didn't manage to get out there in the five years we've been around, and that's completely my fault. I lack marketing and PR skills.
I was never the ideal person to run UBC, and I really can't express how sorry I am for having failed you guys, myself, and this website.
Kat, how long will UBC be closed! I nearly cried after opening the site today. How do we get the site back up.
I don't know when or if it will re-open. (And believe me—I'm crying too. I feel like the world's biggest failure right now.)
whats #saveUBC about?
#SaveUBC is a small attempt to get members back online and participating so that User Based Casting (userbasedcasting.com) can stay on the interwebs. Over the past six months, member participation has steadily declined to the point where our Voting Cycles—in regards to both the lacking number of candidates and voters—are routinely compromised. A member suggested using the #SaveUBC hashtag to spread awareness of the severity of this situation. If there isn’t enough member participation to support Voting Cycles, my most realistic course of action will be to take the site offline.
BUT!—If activity levels DO pick up again, I’d like to take your renewed interest in the site to do some cool things, including:
Add some combination of the following book-to-film-adaptations: The Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel), Panic, Elusion, Daughter of Smoke & Bone, and These Broken Stars (among others).
Introduce a new voting schedule that decreases the number of Voting Cycles held per adaptation by over 50%, as this will give Finalist titles (and the Voting Cycles themselves) more significance.
In my mind, there’s no point in trying to keep a dead site alive if its members have moved on. (PLEASE prove me wrong on that last part!)
Max & Maya.
regarding the policy change for updated monologues to be uploaded within four months of the original video, does that count if your original video is was before Jan. 1? And after four months, do the videos have to be uploaded just within four months of the latest video? (sorry, I'm just really confused)
Yes and yes! You need to re-film any audition videos that are older than four months old as of January 1st. (Plan on re-filming those no later than February 27th—that’s when I plan to start enforcing the policy for Voting Cycles.)
You will indeed need to re-film Required Monologues within four months of each upload date. This was something many members asked me to implement, as there are candidates still using videos that are 1-2 years old for Voting Cycles (!!!).
For example, you could upload a Required Monologue on January 15th and re-film it on April 10th (which falls within the automatic four-month window ending May 15th). You would then have until August 10th to re-film the monologue again (and so on).
ACTORS AND ACTRESSES! The Required Monologues for all Maximum Ride characters (excluding Gazzy) have been reduced and, in a few cases, changed.
Max: Two new monologues, five in total. (Down from seven.) Fang: No new monologues, four in total. (Down from seven.) Iggy: No new monologues, three in total. (Down from five.) Nudge: Two new monologues, three in total. (Down from five.) Gazzy: No change! (Three in total.) Angel: No new monologues, three in total. (Down from five.) Ella: One new monologue, three in total. (Total remains the same.) Ari: No new monologues, two in total. (Down from five.)

Hey guys! First of all, for those who don’t know I WON THE UPCOMING ACTRESS COMPETITION! Couldn’t have done it all without your help so thank you so much! The questions for the article were very much about myself but I did manage to squeeze in the chance to mention UBC, Max Ride and our Web series so hopefully they keep that in and we can attract more attention!
Second of all, I’m now a finalist in the Hollywood Immersive competition, which if I win, I get flown over to LA for a week long acting course and the chance to audition for industry professionals! It’s a huge opportunity and I’d really love to win! I’m not sure how it’s own but just incase, head on over, watch and like my entry (it’s a Maximum Ride scene!) and hopefully I get the chance to come back over to LA and study and spread more Max Ride news!
Thank you all so much! Link is up there or on my acting page! www.facebook.com/pierafordeactor
