i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.

Summary:
After a storm, Rio, keeper of a remote coastal lighthouse, finds something tangled among the rocks that does not belong to the sea or the shore. She doesnāt know what it is, only that it feels important, and that keeping it would be wrong. When Agatha comes looking for it, Rio returns it without question or condition. Agatha is not used to that. She leaves. And then, despite herself, she comes back.

I feel super lucky to have been able to collab with Jess (@/labnotesfiction on twt) for Big Bang and help bring a little bit of this lovely story to life. You absolutely should give this story a read, https://archiveofourown.org/works/85089936/chapters/224674206
you've met me at a very "yeah i'm trying to work on that" time in my life
The boulder pushing punishment is iconic. But I think more people should know the reason Sisyphus was punished to begin with, which was for cheating death, twice.
The first time he cheated death, Sisyphus had just angered Zeus by revealing the location of the Asopid Aegina whom Zeus abducted. Which is super valid, fuck Zeus.
Sisyphus knew that Zeus would send the god of death Thanatos after him, so he prepared a trap and trapped Thanatos in the chains meant for him.
After that, nothing on Earth was able to die so long as Thanatos was in chains. Which meant no animals could be sacrificed to the gods. This angered the gods, who made Sisyphus' life so miserable with pain and illness that he would beg for death. And so he released Thanatos.
But then came the second time Sisyphus cheated death. As he was dying, he asked his wife to dump his naked corpse in the middle of the public square. Denied a proper burial, his soul ended up on the far side of the river Styx, unable to cross.
He complained to Hades and Persephone about how his wife disrespected him, and begged them to let him return briefly to the world of the living to scold her and make her bury him properly. They agreed, and Sisyphus returned to life. He then embraced his wife, and refused to return to the Underworld.
It's only when he finally died of old age that he was sent to Tartarus and punished with the boulder.
I don't remember where I've seen it, but I like the interpretation that Sisyphus doesn't have to push the boulder. He can choose to stay in Tartarus and rest. But he was promised that if he managed to push the boulder to the top of the mountain, he'll ascend to Elysium.
And Sisyphus, in his stubbornness and cleverness, refuses to give up on a challenge.
One must indeed imagine Sisyphus happy, planning and scheming about how he'll cheat the gods next.
so back when my little brother was in high school, my mom went as a chaperone for their senior year field trip to an amusement park. which, you know, brave move to volunteer to supervise a bunch of high school seniors let loose in a wonderland of rollercoasters and sugar
my brother and his friends in this field trip group were truly great kids. but they were not above run of the mill teenage boy shenanigans. itās the end of senior year, you and all your buddies are at the amusement park, youāre naturally going to want to act like a complete moron
there was one kid in the group who was especially prone to goofing around. committed to the bit, some may say. my mom knew that if nonsense was going to break out, heād likely be at the center of it
so she goes up to this kid at the very start of the trip and says āhey, iām kinda worried about this chaperoning thing. this might be a lot to ask, but can you help me keep an eye on everyone? you wouldnāt have to do anything big, just be an extra set of eyes for me.ā
friends, this kid proceeded to run their field trip group like the fucking us marines. everyone is at the meet up spots at the designated time. everyone waits in line for the rides like a bunch of boy scouts. the second the horseplay gets too out of hand, this kid is getting it back under control
itās incredible how differently people act based on the expectations you set. instead of going to this kid and saying āhey, i know youāre trouble, so iāve got my eye on you,ā my mom went āhey, i know you have influence in your peer group, so i think you can help me.ā
treat someone like a problem, theyāll act like a problem. but give people a chance to help, make them feel important, and they usually rise far above the occasion. it was a stroke of genius that iām honestly still in awe of
Can I be honest. I think the world may have had enough of American poets writing pieces about how it's weird to go about daily life while your government commits genocide abroad. I don't know if anyone needs to do another one of those
not now kitten. daddy's realizing that the scene he invested 1000 words into could be significantly improved but only if he started over from scratch
an ao3 author is never late, nor are they early; they post precisely when they mean to
Favorite trope from real life experiences
I'd love it if just once a company could admit their own fuck-up without having to drag it out. Instead of feigning ignorance, and giving us the phony "we hear you" speech that always means nothing, they just changed their fucking minds and moved on from their mistake. Why is it always a war of attrition with these companies?
