I can understand your need to figure out your story first. You can't rush creative artwork. Cause that's what fanfics are, artwork. So take as long as you need to write. Your readers will understand. I know I do.

I don't want to force nick and judy together at the end of this story just for the sake of the shipping, i know at least that much. It would feel and probably seem to most like a cop-out... no pun intended.I would imagine folks would say the same as id be thinking: "then why'd you make her gay in the firstplace?"Honestly, I'm still trying to piece together a good ending. As a fanfiction writer, it’s taken me a long time to come to this realization, and ever since I have, I’ve been so much happier with my views of my work and my self-esteem. The person my fanfiction is written for is ME. When other people enjoy it, that’s wonderful and it makes me happy, but I shouldn’t beat myself up if people don’t. It’s not for them. It’s for me.
I believe this holds true for ALL forms of art and expression. You create what YOU find beautiful, or thrilling, or meaningful. If you’re trying to create something you think everyone will like, then it’s not actually an expression of anything.
I would go as far as to say that your success as an artist has less to do with your talent and skill than it does with your ability to connect to people around and you, and express what they AND you are feeling. Even if you aren't aware that you're doing it.
