“Bones,” Kirk said, “you and Spock will stay here on the ship and mind the store in case anything goes wrong.”
McCoy gave him an understanding smile. “I think we can manage that, right, Spock?”
Spock’s unerringly forthright gaze remained fixed on Kirk. “There is nothing that needs to be done on the ship. We have a small crew for an important mission; it is only logical to make use of everyone who is available. Furthermore, Starfleet General Orders are quite clear that no flag officer shall beam into a hazardous area without armed escort.”
Kirk pursed his lips to conceal the beginnings of a smile.

“Spock…” Jim breathed between coughs, his voice hoarse. “The whales… Out of danger?”
Spock cupped Jim’s cheek in his hand, his fingers splayed across the side of Jim’s face in the suggestion of a mind meld. “Yes, Jim, you saved us all… But you should not have taken such a risk alone.”
Jim gave Spock a pointed look—he was one to talk—before everything caught up with him and he truly registered the familiar affection and concern in Spock’s expression, his hard-earned wisdom, and that he had called Jim by his name.
With nothing to hold him back, Jim caught Spock’s lips in a desperate kiss, salty with sea water and Spock held on just as tightly. A wolf-whistle sounded above the waves as all of the others cheered.

Jamie [Kirk]’s hands fell from Spock’s shoulders and trailed down her arms to take her hands. “Spock…”

There are so many different ways Kirk and Spock's first meeting could have gone in the Magical Girl AU... what if the whole story was just a timeloop of different first meetings?
The air was suffused with a powerful, dry heat that enveloped Jim as he entered, but he hardly noticed it in his surprise at finding that the sauna already had a lone occupant.
“Spock?”
Spock opened his eyes and raised an eyebrow at the exclamation, completing the unmistakable picture. He sat on the bench directly across from the door, his legs folded underneath him as though meditating, only half covered by the towel tied around his waist; like Jim, Spock wore nothing else.
“Taking shore leave after all, Mr. Spock? This is a lovely… planet.” Jim’s eyes followed the trail of dark hair up Spock’s bare chest.

I feel like the Star Trek universe's version of that meme about everything eventually evolving into crabs is that everything evolves into glow clouds that feed on emotion
“I insist upon your dining with us. It will be ready in half an hour. I have oysters and a brace of grouse, with something a little choice in white wines.—Watson, you have never yet recognised my merits as a housekeeper.”
This is such a fascinating line from Holmes in The Sign of Four. It's after Watson has demonstrated some interest in Mary Morstan and it gives the distinct impression that Holmes has noticed and is trying to win him back (sadly, too little too late)
But also, I think it's the only indication we ever get that Holmes cooks. Otherwise, I believe all mention of food at Baker Street suggests it's brought to them by Mrs. Hudson. If this was in a fic, I'd call it anachronistic, but clearly it made sense to Doyle at the time. But where is Holmes even doing the cooking? Does this mean they have a kitchen in their flat or that he can use Mrs. Hudson's kitchens?? I have so many questions
“Jamie [Kirk]!” It was sharp like a shout, but it wasn’t really a sound or even a word but a feeling that cut through Jamie's fears and deep, dark memories with such intensity that it was almost overwhelming, reaching desperately to pull her free at any cost.
“Spock!” Jamie couldn’t tell if any sound came out or if it was just her mind reaching back, grasping for anything solid to hold onto.

This is my first vid for the 2026 @fandomtrumpshate charity auction, for @theviewfrommtseleya, who gave me an excellent prompt to work with that was inspired by a fanvid set to the same song from the Official Leonard Nimoy Fan Club in the late 80's/early 90's, when vids were made and shared on VHS!
Sherlock Holmes but he's a magical girl. He still solves crimes with deductive reasoning. He's just a magical girl for no reason now.
I will probably not do a Holmes/Watson magical girl AU when I finally finish the Kirk/Spock magical girl saga but this really is an AU design after my own heart for one of my oldest and dearest fandoms!
Having Wooster struggle with the brown paper and treacle is all well and good, but I do think Jeeves and Wooster missed out on having Jeeves casually volunteer to help smash a window to fake a robbery
It's particularly remarkable because if Wooster gets caught breaking in somewhere, the worst he'd get is spending the night in prison, but Jeeves could easily be ruined (though of course he's also more than capable of talking himself out of trouble)
I've decided the fancy school that everyone goes to in the Kirk/Spock Magical Girl AU has to be called Zefram Cochrane Academy
Watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time, and it feels like it wants to be a harem anime, but has accidentally stumbled into having female protagonists
I've had a surprising amount of fun thinking about what the bridge crew would be like as high school students for my Kirk/Spock Magical Girl AU. Of course, they're all top students because they're canonically ridiculous overachievers, but in somewhat different ways
Kirk is at the very top of her class just because she has the most drive and is the most likely to pull all-nighters to get it all done and done well
Uhura and Sulu are just behind Kirk but are both way less likely to burn out in the long run because they don't push as hard and know when to go to sleep and call it good enough
Chekov is the top of the class in the year below them and is very similar to Kirk, though perhaps a little more competitive but since none of the others are in her year, she doesn't have that much on-screen competition
McCoy and Scotty are in the year above the others and are much more focused on their particular specialties; McCoy on pre-pre-med and Scotty on engineering
The only exception, weirdly, is Spock, who was probably middle of the class on Vulcan. Maybe for a time she tried really hard and was at the top, but she's very done with Vulcan by the time she comes to Earth
“Perhaps some monsters must be confronted to be put to rest.”
Dr. McCoy gave Spock a long look as he realized what Spock was suggesting. “I don’t believe this! Four men have died and here you are more worried about Jim’s feelings. So much for your Vulcan logic.”
“Your duty is to the crew, mine is to support the captain.”

“Intuition?” Jim said. “That could explain why its moves were so hard to predict.”
“Precisely, not so different from your strategy at chess.”
Jim cracked a smile at the comparison.
“Or from emotion,” Spock said deliberately. “Both intuition and emotion are hereditary traits that evolved to facilitate decision making, though their results aren’t always optimal.”
“Like hesitating under pressure?” Jim said pointedly, though his tone turned more rueful as he realized what Spock was really getting at. “Or guilt for something I couldn’t have changed. Is that your point?”
Spock carefully clasped his hands behind his back. “No sir. It’s just a subject of personal interest.”
Jim dismissed Spock’s excuse. “You were right. I just wasn’t ready to see it.”
