So! Let’s talk about Barbara Jordan… Who was she? Only one of the most badass queer women you will ever hear about. She was the FIRST southern black woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives. That’s right. SOUTHERN. The gal was born in Houston Texas February 21, 1936. Raised there. And died in Austin Texas in 1996. But not before leaving behind a legacy for all queer folk, Texans, colored folk, women, and the like to aspire to. And in the 60s no less.

Was she a lesbian or a bisexual? We’ll never know for sure because she was never out publically in her lifetime, but her obituary in the Houston Chronicle mentioned her 20 - year relationship with Nancy Earl.

Whether L or B in LGBT+, today seems like as good a day as any to spread the word about this amazing Woman who loved another woman.

They are  in a state of tonic immobility and are not relaxed, hypnotized, or insensitive to pain.

Scientists believe that this is a defense mechanism brought on when a rabbit has already been ‘caught’ by a predator. If the rabbit appears dead, the predator may release its grip momentarily and allows the rabbit to escape. Research has shown that rabbits in this state show an increased heart and respiratory rate with elevated plasma corticosterone levels, indicative of fear-induced stress.

The stress caused by this position can be fatal if rabbits are already suffering from respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and the sudden transition to from passive and active escape can be unpredictable and instantaneous which can result in significant injury to the rabbit. Sudden noise or painful stimuli can interrupt the trance and there is considerable variation in individual susceptibility to the technique

Your rabbit will display the following behaviors if it is tranced:

Shallow fast breathing

Relaxed limbs

It’s honestly sickening to see people buying bunnies for their cuteness and softness, but not educating themselves on how to actually take care of it. If you keep trancing your bunny on purpose or bathing it, you deserve to have your pets taken away from you.

Can we please stop treating resistance to fascism and Nazis as this emphatically American thing? I’m seeing people reblog Captain America and Indiana Jones punching Nazis with the emphasis “as American as apple pie”; then there’s the one where DC’s Joker refuses to work with Marvel’s Red Skull (a Nazi) because the Joker is “an American criminal lunatic, goddammit!”; “I even saw a Richard Spencer punch video with Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” edited into the background.

Like, what the hell? Y'all do realize that the Nazis got their inspiration for the concentration camps from the American Indian reservation system, right? This nation was built on active ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population and colonialist domination, for god’s sake; and that’s not even going into the centuries of mass enslavement on the basis of race. America as a nation-state does not have some glorious patriotic tradition of eschewing fascist racial hierarchies. 

It opposed the Nazis in WWII because it was strategically necessary for it to do so; Germany would have represented a rival power in Europe that would in turn cut down the material interests of American capitalists (i.e. economic/state competition). Though there are plenty of American individuals who fiercely oppose fascism on moral grounds, the American ruling class actively supports fascism abroad when it does align with their material interests. In another important example, “American as apple pie” Henry Ford was deeply antisemitic and supported Hitler during his rise to power. Moneyed interests were supporting the Nazis up until a certain point, because they were subduing militant labor and “the reds”. Those in power (especially in America) have historically uplifted fascism around the world at the expense of socialist and labor causes, for obvious reasons: it aligns with their material interests to block movements in favor of economic democracy. 

TLDR: You have not argument to stand on when you base your anti-fascism around “cuz America!”
