i will say, i am pretty disappointed in tumblr since i considered it a very "woke" website in the fact that people on here would rather write various fanfiction about an attractive white guy that was in the movie for maybe 5 minutes and then dies, versus the very arguably complex black main character (Clark). i mean, i thought the appeal of most fan favorite characters was their complexity, but at the end of the day im pretty sure white millennials are 80% of this website whose idea of diversity lies mainly in sexuality

i am pretty happy with almost any other social media, all of which woobify Clark similar to how fandoms would with most other characters

what's funny is this kinda upholds a post i made earlier where i said people would rather obsess over skinny white male side character instead of a main person of color... or woman, half the time

i do quite believe that in all jokes there is some semblance of truth, while it may not be an outward truth. similarly to how i disregard people who joke about pedophilia in jokes such as "if her age is on the clock, she can take my cock" (worst thing ever to type out) often said by guys irl, my source being what ive heard. the "truth" i refer to may just be a disregard of feelings or any kind of seriousness of a situation. because of all things to joke about? kind of like how rape jokes feed into rape culture... im not sure what my point is other than this being a rant.

but I guess what I’m trying to get at is that it’s less about taking every joke literally and more about what people are willing to joke about in the first place. Like, there are a million things someone could choose to be funny about, and when they land on topics that involve real harm or genuinely disturbing people, it kind of says something about their priorities or their awareness.

Even if the intent isn’t serious, the impact doesn’t just disappear because it’s framed as a joke. It still normalizes the idea that those topics are casual, or not a big deal, or just another punchline. And over time, that kind of attitude builds up into something bigger, where people stop reacting to things with the weight they actually deserve.

I think that’s why it bothers me so much, not because I think every person making those jokes secretly believes in the worst version of them, but because it shows a level of detachment. Like there’s no line, or at least no thought about where the line should be. And when enough people act like that, it starts to feel like the line just doesn’t exist at all.

it is a bit concerning to me that when there is a very diverse arrangement of characters in media, somehow the fandom is immediately (and pretty much only) attached to the white man (bonus points if he's a side character)

i have just found out that people's interpretation of rouxl kards line in his mouth is totally different. i assumed it was a gap in his teeth but i saw art where it was skin going over his mouth and it's safe to say that kind of freaked me out to imagine but regardless, it was a cool design
