Just been binging on you RWBY theories, great stuff! Was really curious to know if you had any thoughts on all the mystery surrounding Jaune and his supposed hidden potential?
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying my theories! As for Jaune, I don’t really have much- I don’t think that the narrative has given us much to work with, other than the moment in which he heals himself back in like Volume 1.
Personally, I’m hoping that it has something to do with protecting/healing himself and others. We know that Jaune is still struggling with Pyrrha’s death, especially with the thought that he couldn’t do enough/anything to fight with her, to protect her when she went to face Cinder. Giving Jaune a power/Semblance that would force him to wrestle further with his ability and desire to protect others would be good for his character development, and it would fit within the arc they’re already building for him. But, maybe it’ll be something totally different and still wholly interesting! Either way, I’m curious.
Thanks for the question!

“I may fall, but not like this- it won’t be by your hand.”
The World of Remnant teems with beasts, warriors, heroes, villains- and with individuals falling from one archetype to another, all scarred from past encounters. Eventually, everyone faces formative moments and traumatic experiences.
And everyone has to find their own path forward once their wounds close.
Foe to familiar: Weiss’s mastery of summoning, from the White Trailer to Volume 5, Chapter 2.
“Your patriarchal prison won’t hold me.”
Hazel Theory & Analysis:“Nobody needs to die today.”
While watching Chapter 2 of Vol 5, like so many of you, I was struck by Hazel’s desire for a peaceful negotiation. We’ve seen Cinder’s all-consuming ambition, Tyrian’s gleeful savagery, and Watts’s malicious heckling from Salem’s group, but we haven’t seen anything like this before. We haven’t seen any of our villains humble themselves, expose themselves, to beg for calm.
And Hazel didn’t just ask for calm- he questioned Adam as the coup began, and then reprimanded him upon its completion. While Hazel didn’t interfere or prevent the coup from happening, as he leaves the room, he insists that there was no need for violence, for bloodshed, for death, on this day.
Hazel, one of the main antagonists in RWBY, distances himself from another antagonist’s actual villainy.
This fascinates me- it begs us to try to investigate Hazel, and although there isn’t much to go on, I’ve found a few things that intrigue me. To begin with, this scene shows us that Hazel actually values human life. Naturally, we should ask why Hazel values human life. And while I can’t say for certain...
The deep scarring on Hazel’s arm, right by his elbow, seems to indicate that he’s a man who’s seen an unfair share of violence. Perhaps that intense exposure to violence, whatever it was, has given him a distaste for it. So, we are now meant to understand that Hazel is a character with principles, right?
But, if that is the case, why does Hazel serve Salem, someone who we assume poses a major threat to the world of Remnant?
Simply put, I think the answer has to be that Salem’s ultimate plan is not just the usual conquer-the-world deal. For Hazel, a man who seeks to avoid unnecessary violence, to serve Salem, he would have to believe that he’s serving a greater purpose, a greater plan to fundamentally change the world in the long term. If Salem truly only wanted to conquer the world for the sake of her ego, why would Hazel stay by her side during her brutal attacks on Beacon and Vale?
If Salem is offering to radically transform the world through achieving her goals, this would explain not only Hazel’s servitude, but Tyrian’s fervent devotion to her.
Tyrian truly believes that he serves a goddess- and now that we know more about the Maidens, the Relics, and their connections to the literal, actual Gods of Remnant, we can deduce that Salem really is reaching for divine power.
And that divine power, with all of its potential to reshape the world, judge the wicked, and create a lasting peace, might just be enough to convince Hazel to serve Salem.

RWBY Theory: The Eyes of Adam Taurus
For five volumes now, Adam Taurus has been witnessing the world of Remnant from behind a mask.
His mask is such an intrinsic part of his imagery, and of the White Fang’s imagery, that it became an accepted part of his character. It just remained in place, almost innocuous, for four full seasons.
Until yesterday. Until Volume 5, Chapter 2.
Sienna Khan, in her last moments, reaches for Adam’s Grimm mask.
While he is in the act of deposing her, his blade piercing her body, she uses the last of her life to try to pry the mask off of his face.
Why?
For Sienna to spend her last moments like this tells us something critical- that without the mask, Adam would literally be exposed, made vulnerable, in some meaningful way. And while we can’t definitively solve the mystery right now, we do have something to guide us. One of RWBY’s most central images is that of the eye.
Characters like Yang, Neo, and Cinder have eyes that reflect their nature and their powers. However, their eyes don’t leave them vulnerable or exposed in any way- their eyes just indicate the status and use of their powers, like Yang’s eyes turning red as her Semblance activates, or Cinder’s eyes emitting fire once she becomes the Fall Maiden. As far as I can think, only one character has eyes that would actually endanger them.
Ruby Rose, the Silver-Eyed Warrior.
Ruby’s Silver Eyes mark her as something other than a regular human. Her eyes leave her vulnerable to groups like Salem’s, who know about Silver-Eyed Warriors and actively hunt them. While Ruby never knew the truth about her eyes until recently, what would happen if someone was raised with that knowledge? What if that person was told to conceal their eyes from a young age so as to protect themselves? What if that person had a convenient need to conceal their face anyway, because they were part of a terrorist organization?
What if Adam Taurus is a Silver-Eyed Warrior?
In some ways, this makes so much sense- we’ve always wondered why Ruby and Adam are so closely aligned in their design and powers. Both characters are strongly associated with red and black, and both are associated with roses through their emblems.
Just as Ruby’s Semblance and weapon is themed around the concept of “Scatter,” Adam’s Semblance and weapons are themed around the concept of “Wilt.”
Both also distort color- while Ruby primarily brings out red and white, Adam primarily brings out red and black.
Perhaps most importantly, both are associated with imagery of the moon- hell, Adam’s Semblance is even referred to as “Moonslice.”
The narrative of the show is going through great lengths to align Ruby and Adam with the same imagery and ideas. And while so much about Adam is still unknown, the biggest mystery is the one the show directly presents us with: the presence of Adam’s mask. Perhaps his mask might just conceal something else, like some terrible scars or burns from a human attack. That is certainly possible.
But that wouldn’t answer why Adam has seemed to be such a central figure for this show for so long.
The answer to that might just be that Adam is essentially the inverse of Ruby: a Silver-Eyed Warrior just as she is, but one who is aware of their powers, one who hunts humans instead of Grimm, one who hides and deceives instead of charging forward, and one who works to bring the world to its knees, rather than saving it.
Adam is the corrupted paladin, the Fallen Silver-Eyed Warrior.

hooo boy do i have a load of rwby posts! i have a couple of theories and a few observances coming out soon, so keep an eye out, yeah?
I'm still doing Inktober, but I'm going to stop posting them here, unless it is of particular relevance to one of my main fandoms. If you want to keep following my progress, check out my Twitter (@valascano)!
Soon, though....I'll be watching RWBY.
And that means theories *rubs hands together*
Inktober: A classmate handed out lil pupper stickers today, so I drew a lil robo-buddy with 4 arms for INCREASED PUPPER PETTING
Inktober: I tried to draw a Bloodborne Hunter, but I failed miserably, so I doodled up a quick version of Yang's emblem, since I'm out of time. On the bright side, at least I updated @remnantchoices !
Inktober: Quick K2!
Inktober: Teeny-tiny Jiji, then back to studying for midterms! I should probably do a full Kiki's piece for Halloween, huh? 🤔
Also, if anyone wants to submit Inktober requests, I'm still down to take them!
Man, am I looking forward to RWBY starting again. Hopefully, this season gives me enough information to start revising my old theories, especially the 4 Trials theories. If anything, I might end up expanding the 4 Trials, since I should probably include Oscar now?
Inktober: got too caught up with anatomy practice, so just doodled a couple of quick triskelions. I'll do an actual character tomorrow.
