please stop stealing our content
since it has come to my attention that people are stealing the shiet that my lovely mutuals have created, i would just like to remind everyone that:
1. people create gifs for FREE
gif-creators spend COUNTLESS hours (if not days) on perfecting their creations, and by STEALING them (and yes i do mean stealing, not just reposting) you are disregarding all the time and effort they put into their gifset.
2. we don’t put watermarks on our gifs because we trust you
most of us (gif-creators) don’t put watermarks on our creations because it’s just so chunky and ugly but if people continue to steal our shiets, istg we will start putting watermarks on to prevent people from doing so. and even then y’all thirsty-for-gifs thots will steal them.
3. it’s not that hard to reblog, and reposting IS stealing
this bulletpoint speaks for itself. just reblog mate, it’s not gonna kill you. and it’s so much easier than saving then re-uploading.
4. it is within a gif-creator’s right to report the content-stealers
according to tumblr’s terms of service, “you retain ownership you have of any intellectual property you post to tumblr” (point raised by the lovely @verafarmiga). so yes, if you see any of your own content that has been stolen, please report the content-stealers. and if it is your mutual’s content that has been stolen, INFORM THEM! they’ll appreciate it.
5. dear content-stealers, you can create your own gifs
believe it or not, it is actually not that hard to gif. i used to be a lil shiet too and rely on other people’s gifs until i decided that i had enough and cleaned myself up. if you’re a beginner gif-creator, i suggest that you check out @yeahps. they have a lot of useful tutorials on giffing, and it’s actually not that hard. or you can even ask me how to gif! i would love to help out. stop stealing, and start creating.
6. we, as gif-creators, should help each other out and not let this go unnoticed
i am so sick and tired of people stealing other people’s shiet. please, please, PLEASE signal boost this so we can do something about it.
for y’all paranoid gifmakers out there who would like to prevent people from stealing your shiet by right-clicking and saving your images, here’s a way to disable the right-click. (idea inspired by @verafarmiga. check out her desktop theme: you get 70 years of bad luck if you steal / repost her gifs.)
