The Urban Hunter-Gatherer
Once upon a time, human beings foraged and hunted for all of their material needs. Food was a top priority for our early ancestors, and they looked hardand far to find abundance.
Fans of the paleolithic diet advocate the lifestyle of these ancient peoples. Personally, I enter a pleasant daydream thinking about navigating the wilderness for food.
There seems to be a level of connectivity between these people and the uncensored nature that they lived with. They led intuitive lives in the bush, trusting their instincts and using all of their senses to thrive.
Though most of us find the possibility of stripping down to a loincloth and running to the forest a terrific escape from the (over)industrial world we live in, I am here to tell you that the hunter-gatherer lifestyle lives.
And oh, is it sweet.
Meet fallingfruit.org – an online database mapping out public fruit trees.
With this handy map, one may simply walk around, say, Los Angeles and fill a basket with fresh, organic fruit, all growing around the city.
The best part: all of this food is totally free.
Feral people rejoice! Take a smartphone and begin your urban foraging.
Remember to be kind, share and spread the love in the industrial jungle.
If you see any fruit trees in your environment, put them on the map! It takes a minute and allows others to enjoy your discovery.
You gotta love the urban harvest.
