Prompt: You, yes, YOU are in a previously established relationship with Changbin and decide to go to a bike rental place at 3:25 as a cute date idea. (also I am ME or whatever the title of the album Get Cool is on is…) Disclaimer: I have never been to Seoul let alone biked down the Han River, and this is my first X reader fic. Have mercy on my inaccuracies.
Where: A bike rental stand
When: 3:25 (AM or PM) ~why not both~
It’s a warm, pitch black summer night when you get the idea.
You subtly shift in your position leaning on Changbin as you both mindlessly watch a drama on the couch. At this point, you’re both on the verge of falling asleep since you had a long day and it’s–you sneak a look at your phone—3:25 in the morning. The predictable plot makes it that much easier. Eventually, watching the cute couple go on a bike ride along the Han River makes you blurt out, “We should do that sometime.”
Changbin, who is practically asleep at this point, gently startles awake because of your comment. “Huh?”
“No, I was just thinking we should bike along the river one of these days,” you propose while messing with his hair.
He sleepily nods and pulls you in a bit closer. You both allow yourselves to think about it in the morning.
After a bit of back and forth during the planning phase about when to go, you both agree it’s best to shoot for around noon so you can get lunch afterwards.
You meet up in Hangang Park for the bike rental at 3:25 PM.
Partially your fault. Partially his. Either way the important thing is you’re both in Hangang park in front of the rental stand.
“Alright, I have two bikes for an hour. Will you be paying in cash or credit?” the employee asks while typing away on the tablet.
“Credit,” you both respond at the same time. Both of you pause and slowly turn to look towards one another. Now, you’re no longer in front of a bike rental station but, instead, find yourself at a gunslinging showdown in the Wild West. Changbin already has one hand at his hip ready to strike, but you’re equally as prepared with your card peeking out of your wallet at the ready.
The poor employee starts to turn the tablet towards you both and barely gets out, “That’ll be…”
“I got it!” you say while lunging your card toward the machine. Although your movements are quick, Changbin is just the slightest bit faster and by the time your card touches the screen the bikes are already paid for. You sharply turn towards Changbin, who decided now is the best time to whistle and look around at the ambiance of the park, and let out a frustrated sound.
You shoot him a glare before turning to the rental worker and thanking them as they hand you the bikes.
The beginning of the trail was calm and an easy ride, but, of course, your competitive spirit tempts you with a thought.
“I have an idea,” you say with a smile slowly spreading across your lips, “whoever makes it to the bridge first gets a kiss on the cheek from the loser.”
“Yah, this feels unfair,” Changbin replies with a faux humility, “I have too much of an advantage with how fast I am.”
Your jaw drops at his words and you snarkily rebut, “I’m not so sure. We better test if all those pretty muscles are for show.”
His face turns into a shade of bright red, out of indignation or flattery you can’t tell. However, with Changbin left dumbfounded by your accusation, you take the opportunity to zoom forward. The resistance from the bike pedals is almost nonexistent with the amount of speed you gained from the initial push. You let a laugh tumble out of your mouth as the wind whips around you. You take a moment to glance behind you and see Changbin steadily catching up to you with a vengeance. A newfound adrenaline fills your body. You focus your eyes on the approaching bridge and go. The scenery surrounding you turns into blurs. You feel the trail’s subtle bumps begin to disappear with your acceleration. The only things your mind can pick out are the sight of the bridge, the sensation of your burning lungs, and the sound of Changbin’s tires.
As the crunch of gravel grows louder and louder, you are only seconds away from victory.
“That wasn’t a fair start, you cheater!” you hear Changbin yell out right as you zip across the underpass under the bridge. You let out a cheer of success as you hear Changbin grumbling behind you.
You allow yourself to revel in the residual endorphins and adrenaline from the race. Your heartbeat gradually reduces back to a resting pace and you begin to notice the reality around you. The wind is softly brushing against your face as you both let yourselves cruise along the bank of the Han River. You can feel the sun's heat kissing your skin and a sense of peace settling deep inside you. As you look behind you, you lock eyes with Changbin. You know you should keep your eyes focused on the path ahead, but there was something beautiful in the pure expression on Changbin’s face. Joy and admiration radiate off of him, and you can’t help but want to match his emotion in tandem.
"You look pretty happy for someone who lost,” you playfully tease from your bike in front of him.
“I don’t think I actually lost because you cheated,” Changbin refutes with an exaggerated pout.
“Think of it as karma from earlier because it was my turn to pay,” you say before sticking out your tongue playfully.
He rolls his eyes to show his disagreement but decides not to argue any further. You both pedal down the path for a few more minutes before stopping at a bench to admire the river and catch your breath for a bit.
“I’m glad you thought of this when we watched that drama,” Changbin comments as you both take a seat.
“Why?” you curiously respond.
“Because you look incredible like this”, he says before leaning in to give you a kiss on the cheek.
