@valkyrieposting
hello people with no imagination!!
as marshmello once famously said "lately, i've been, i've been thinking... i want you to be happier". you know what would make me happier? more skulduggery pleasant YURI.
currently on ao3 there are 1549 works in the skulduggery pleasant fandom. just 150 are tagged as F/F, many of which are multifandom fics which only include wlw ships from other fandoms.
the thing is, the issue is certainly not that there's NO interest in these ships. wlw ship valancholia (which i am totally not biased towards in any way) won @sp-fanclub's 2025 Skulduggery Ship Wars by a landslide, winning over 73.2% of the 82 voters in the final poll. so clearly... the potential is there. what we need is a motivator. like a splash but it's not a thinly veiled metaphor for drugs.
and so..... may i propose............ SKULDUGGYURI PLEASANT. a dedicated period where we make a collective effort to create skulduggery fanworks that centre relationships between non-men, romantic or otherwise. because there are so many amazing dynamics between characters in this series who are female or gender diverse, and they deserve a little boost :)
NOTE i put writing event in the poll because i'm losing my mind pretend it says fanwork event xxx
would YOU be interested in a skulduggyuri pleasant writing event
yes 😍😍😍
no ❌❌
i would but now isn't a good time for me
unsure if i'd write but i'd love for other people to so i can READ it
stephanie edgley deserved better (other/see results)
also if you have a better name idea. or any other opinion. or would like to help or i don't know have any thoughts whatsoever. comment below ⬇️⬇️
it’s funny how quickly you get desensitized to comic book nonsense like mister sinister is an insane name for a fictional character it’s so goofy but when i read his name i’m like this is not a laughing matter. we’re talking about cyclops’ traumatic secret laser beam eyeball orphanage surgery backstory. stop laughing.

Realized I'd never drawn Skulduggery so I made them both. And did a render test
reading skulduggery pleasant sucks because every character is named like Mcfoolery Crocs and you have to take them seriously because they’ve just died horribly or did terrible things in the war. And then every villain is named Butcher Masochist to differentiate and they murder 30 people each book. Also William Raymond sanguine is there
I hate myself for this
Question time! How would you guys prefer Skulduggery to be expressive in animation (Any other suggestions welcome)
Skeleton eyebrows
Eye sockets changing shape for emotions
Head motions only (Hard)
Also asks are now open!
can you imagine what the world would look like if Derek wrote all his characters with aggressive, legibly Irish accents
Understand that I mean this in the kindest, most everyone-has-unexamined-biases way possible, but it might be worth thinking about why "Irish characters sounding like distinctly Irish people" reads as an innately humorous premise to you
no no you have a point. I suppose our thought process was taking the fact that everyone is Irish and yet we never read them as such (which seems to be a common experience, and that we certainly agree has some problems) and following it to what would make us read them as Irish, but naturally for comic value quoting a more absurd interpretation of that concept, that being the idea of. doing that thing with the vowels which naturally would not be condusive to proper text
not trying to defend ourself here, obviously there're issues with this and we'll consider them, just trying to map out our personal thought process. we could definitely have phrased it better and the fact that our phrasing reads like a joke is definitely rooted in a problem that we'll endeavour to do better than
there's also the fact that we do wish they read as Irish to us, and the fact that we expressed that in a way that came out as something of the opposite sentiment also likely stems from to the issue you're addressing. we honestly love that they're set in Ireland and feature it significantly as a plot point, and we kinda hate that we don't. experience that as much as we should. or hear them as Irish when they certainly should be
really it was an earnest desire to experience the Irishness of the books better which came out as a shitpost that was frankly much less tactful than it ought to have been, and for that we apologise. obviously we have unconscious bias which we'll do our best to address (thanks for pointing that out) but being Irish in itself isn't inherently comedic to us. however the fact that it can so easily be made comedic does speak a lot to our (singular and plural) normalisation of English and/or American accents and culture and the entailed othering of anything else and goodness me this is too many words.
tl;dr: we didn't mean it like that, we're a sincere fan of the books' Irish nature, but you're correct about the issues you bring up and they're certainly relevant here, so sorry, we'll do better, and this is absurdly long gods be good
do let us know if this response was in poor taste. we don't have a good bearing on that sort of thing
Thank you for being receptive to my point! I felt I had to bring it up because it isn't just you - like I mentioned in the tags (which I probably should have put in the body of the reblog, honestly) it's a pattern of behaviour I keep seeing recur, and it reflects an inherited and hitherto-unexamined idea about what is/isn't funny or outrageous or cursed, etc. And that's just how ideology Works - it disguises itself to the inheritor - so I don't want to tear into anyone about it, but it's certainly worth taking the time to consider, which you're clearly happy to do.
And FWIW I totally concur that it would be nice if the books leaned more into the Irish-ness of the setting* instead of adopting, for example, a more generic English dialect wherein everyone sounds more-or-less like your average Marvel movie character bar the occasional (and usually subtle) Irish turn of phrase, though maybe asking for thoughtful and considered linguistic character- and worldbuilding is asking slightly too much of a guy who wrote in an entire bit character to make a joke about how linguists are useless.** (I really really like @/morwenna-crows' work with Irish translations of some SP terminology and wish there was more stuff like that in the books themselves, for instance.)
*I myself might be missing obvious signifiers in this regard because I don't live in Ireland, I'm just part of a British disapora community via my dad and his immigrant friend circle and their kids, lol.
** OK this is harsh, my actual point here would be "Landy and HarperCollins want it to be marketable outside of Ireland and capitalism is allergic to complexity because it's harder to sell...and maybe he also just can't be bothered."

Silly sketches I did on a whim
I still haven’t read skulduggery pleasant but @staticart has me extremely intrigued.
OK I see people commenting e.g. "Ghastly would use Pinterest" or "Ghastly would occasionally shitpost on Twitter" on that Skulduggery Reddit post and like I have to speak my truth. Ghastly does not know how to use a computer. Ghastly would need Valkyrie's help to open a PDF attachment. Ghastly types agonisingly slowly with a single finger and still owns and regularly uses an extensive CD collection in 2026. I love and respect you all but I just don't believe he would use the computer for anything other than his compulsory Elder Mage duties
I believe Tanith could be on fandom tumblr but chronologically we also have to remember that she was possessed by a malevolent parasite from late 2010-2014ish, so we also have to ask ourselves "is remnant!Tanith still a tumblrina, and, if so, what are the consequences of this for Tanith's tumblr account"
